Whilst trying to reformat one hard drive i didnt realise that an external hardrive was still connected. Noticing a second harddrive on the screen i just thought that xp was being weird. and like an idiot i deleted the partiton before realising. Now the drive dosnt show in my computer. What steps can i take to make this drive accessible again?
I accidentally started to install a new version of XP Home on an existing partition that had a good working XP home on it. I got to the point on the install where it highlighted the good partition and I hit "L" to erase it. At that point I stopped and tried a repair from the XP Home disk but no luck. Since it didn't overwrite it (probably just erased some pointers) is there any way to get back the good partition/OS that was on this disk?
I had just installed XP on my system and after installing some software from my external hard drive i realized that something went wrong with the install so i decided to reinstall the os. I forgot to swicht off my external hard drive and when windows loaded all the files and asked me where did i wanted to install xp and all that, both drives appeared, my internal hd and the external with all my data. i was doing something else at the same time and i wasn't paying all the attention i should have so i deleted the partition of my firewire Hd and just after i did it i realized my mistake. The file system for that drive is fat32 and there was only one partition. I did not formatted the ext. drive, i only deleted the partition.

I booted off the windows xp CD to partition an extra hard drive, but I accidentally deleted the main partition of my boot drive. i had to quickformat it to install windows on another drive. i am not writing any files to the drive at the moment and there must be a way to retreive the partition. i heard as long as you don't overwrite the data, you can somehow recover it.
Was fixing to re-install windows, and I found I accidentally deleted the partition that was my external drive. I did not install windows, or format it, but when I rebooted windows, I cannot access it. It simply says. this disk is not formatted, would you like to format it now. I know of a way to recover the files, and copy to another disk, but as I am presently out of disk space, is there a way to fix the partition that was deleted. Hoping to do this cheaply. I might spend 15.00 for a program, but am shooting for a simple method
I accidentally deleted a partition and later found out that my system is dead....The only way I recover out of that is I reinstall Windows and then install grub again to recover the Linux partition. But I feel the delete partition is a very rapid process just taking seconds and in that I don't think files would be deleted, so I feel potentially I can recover the deleted partitions including the boot partition. But I don't know how to do it. Also now when the boot partition is deleted and the system is not booting up what should be done to recover the system and data?
A way to recover deleted files that were deleted from the recycle bin.Maybe someone has a favorite utility that they've used with success.I am using Windows XP.
I have followed the wizard for system restore but having set the date and pressed next nothing appears to happen. How long should it take? I have tried this in safe mode as well
First I booted from the Windows XP cd because I wanted to format the C drive. I had forgotten I had my external hard drive still plugged in and I accidently deleted the partition for it and created a new one. I didn't FORMAT it, but then when I started up my computer, all the files were gone. So does that mean my files are premanently deleted or can I save the files somehow?.
I have a Western Digital Passport 320GB External Harddrive that is no longer recognized by the computer. It worked two days ago... now nothing. I get a pop up when I plug it in that states: USB Device Not Recognized.I checked Device Manager: Universal Serial Bus Controllers-Unknown Device. It's not a drive letter issue. Windows XP SP3 does not recognize it all.
I have bought an external hard drive and I would like my various programs to automatically save data to the external hard drive Would I need to install the programs onto that hard drive?
About 6 months ago I installed a 500-Gig Maxtor External HD I use as a "back-up" source. When I first installed it, it worked fine. Then I had a system crash and had to re-install WindowsXP Pro. Now this external drive is not recognized. A drive icon is also not displayed in My Computer. In System Hwde Devices, there is a yellow exclamation mark next to the (Maxtor 500-Gig) USB Mas Storage Device. I have made several attempts to uninstall this drive and re-install it but the same identical message appears each time: Mass Storage Device Not Recognized. I'm also getting a Code 39 error code informing me that the drivers for this device are either missing or corrupted. Some time ago I was told that I would have to uninstall and re-install Windows XP Pro if I wanted to correct this issue. Is this true?
for some unkown reason, I have another local disk on in my computer. Instead of my 'C' and my 'd' for recovery, I know have a 'e' local disk. It's 1 gig and about 600 mb used. There are four main folders, CLSetup, Documents and Settings, Program Files and Windows. Also a file call ntldr. In the programs folder there is common files and windows media player. in the documents and settings folder, there is defaut user, local service and networkservice. In the CLSetup folder, there is AP_Pack, inside that, 00, inside that, several files. Of course there are files in all the other folders too.

Is it possible to recover data from an external HD that I accidently deleted the partition and created a new one I just got a "new" computer - it's actualy a hand-me-down that I was trying to do a clean install of Windows XP on. I booted it up with the XP disk in the CD drive, and thought I was telling it to delete the existing partition and create a new one on the C: drive, but I didn't realize that it was also recognizing the external drive, which was already plugged into a USB port (why I even went ahead and plugged it in I don't know - that was stupid mistake It was the first one listed, and I thought it was telling me that there were two partitions on the internal drive, not two drives I also didn't pay attention to the size it was telling me the drive was (stupid mistake #2), I just told it to create a partition with the maximum possible size
I was wondering if it is possible to recover files that have been deleted, the recycle bin was emptied and there was files in there that I want back. So I was wondering if it is possible, and if so, how I go about it.I wasn't 100% sure where to post this, so seeing as I have Windows XP I thought this would be the best place to post it.
I have scaned a document, and saved it like xx.jpg, but i have deleted it from recycle bin too..so can anybody tell me how can i recover this document cause i need it very much..P.S i tryed it to recover with recover my files program, but i cannot racover these files.
My computer came with a 80gb HD with windows xp pro.. I had took a 180gb hd from another comp. that was running windows xp home and connected it as a slave drive. A window popped warning me that vital info. would be deleted in order to format/ partition the second drive (180gb HD). Was this a mistake doing it in this manner? If not...How would I go about using the whole "180gb" and not just the 35gb it's only allowing me to use. And is there any way to move files so that they will be protected?
How do I recover an accidentaly deleted file from the recycle bin? By mistake, my recycle bin was emptied/deleted of its contents and there was a file in there I needed.
I have a regular xp computer and today, a 2003 word file was deleted from the recycle bin I needed that file! I don't know much about computers, so how could I restore my file so I can print it?
Is it possible to recover files you have deleted? When I got my new computer, I accidently deleted some programs files that I still needed..(I'm a novice..)
I accidentally deleted a folder from my computer out of the recycle bin instead of restoring it. Well I know that if the data has not been written over by something else it can be recovered.
WinXP-Home; one hard drive with multiple partitions. My email client (The Bat!) crashed. When I reboot, I cannot access my L: drive (the mail directory). However, Partition Magic 8.01's PartitionInfo report no error on L: drive -- "No partition errors detected".Windows Explorer reports that the L: drive is not formatted. However, PartitionInfo shows it is formatted for FAT32.Is there any way I can fix the problem and get back into my L: drive? If this is not the correct forum, please advise which forum or newsgroup I should pose this question.
WINDOWSSystem32smss.exe and C:WINDOWSsystem32winlogon.exe were accidently deleted. How can I get them back. My system retore was turned off so no chance going there if this was any possibility.
I am formatting my pc with Window XP SP2.While formatting,by mistake i deleted the partition of E: but not formatted. So how can I recover the data of E:?
I seem to have lost the user account on my computer with XP home edition I can still log on to my computer via another user but of course I have lost all my saved emails and other saved items. I can retreive the files etc stored in the 'my documents' folder as that folder is still available in 'Documents & Settings' I realy want to log in to my old user account which ,incidentally, was not password protected.
I am going over to a friends house this morning and help them clean out her computer. The only program that I am sure they have is Norton. I am planning to run scandisk, and defrag. Also I will take a look at her startup list and compare it with sysinfo.org/startuplist and remove what I feel comfortable doing. If not installed I will install Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner (but uncheck the registry cleaner). They both no very little about keeping the computer cleaned out.
My problem is a result of a long series of attempts to fix a corrupt Windows registry file. A few days ago I booted my laptop and received a blue screen error: c0000218, relating to a corrupt Windows registry file. Windows could not load. After a lot of searching online I found a way to manually replace this and four other related files from the c:WindowsRepair folder using the command prompt.
This process seemed to work and Windows began to load. I then received a lsass.exe error saying something about invalid passwords. My laptop began an infinite cycle of restarting itself. I looked up the lsass.exe error and people seemed to think it was unrecoverable. As my hard drive was reasonably small (100g) and had been showing some signs of problems I decided to just buy a new one. I went out and purchased a new 320g 2.5" hard drive along with a 2.5" USB drive enclosure and another 1g stick of RAM......
