I was wondering if it is possible to recover files that have been deleted, the recycle bin was emptied and there was files in there that I want back. So I was wondering if it is possible, and if so, how I go about it.I wasn't 100% sure where to post this, so seeing as I have Windows XP I thought this would be the best place to post it.

I was running AVG anti virus. Now I removed AVG and installed Microsoft supplied security essential software. It detected following virus ware and removed subsequently I want to recover deleted .pst and thunderbird mails.

I did not install windows, or format it, but when I rebooted windows, I cannot access it. It simply says. this disk is not formatted, would you like to format it now. I know of a way to recover the files, and copy to another disk, but as I am presently out of disk space, is there a way to fix the partition that was deleted. Hoping to do this cheaply. I got to the point on the install where it highlighted the good partition and I hit "L" to erase it. At that point I stopped and tried a repair from the XP Home disk but no luck. Since it didn't overwrite it (probably just erased some pointers) is there any way to get back the good partition/OS that was on this disk?

The file system for that drive is fat32 and there was only one partition. I did not formatted the ext. drive, i only deleted the partition.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI booted off the windows xp CD to partition an extra hard drive, but I accidentally deleted the main partition of my boot drive. i had to quickformat it to install windows on another drive. i am not writing any files to the drive at the moment and there must be a way to retreive the partition. i heard as long as you don't overwrite the data, you can somehow recover it.

I am planning to run scandisk, and defrag. Also I will take a look at her startup list and compare it with sysinfo.org/startuplist and remove what I feel comfortable doing. If not installed I will install Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner (but uncheck the registry cleaner). They both no very little about keeping the computer cleaned out.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI installed 'Virtual CD 5.0.6' on my desktop I installed 10 virtual drives (labelled drive G to P inclusive) I have an external hard drive (labelled 'Local Disk: L) which was turned off when i installed Virtual CD.When i turned on the external HD it did not show in My Computer (presumably because i had allocated drive L as a virtual drive I have uninstalled Virtual CD (and all 10 virtual drives) but still do not get my External HD icon showing in 'My Computer'When i go into device manager the Maxtor External HD is showing. And when i go to the 'Unplug Eject Hardware' icon on my tool bar the HD shows as a USB Mass Storage Device (but without a letter)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI accidentally deleted a partition and later found out that my system is dead....The only way I recover out of that is I reinstall Windows and then install grub again to recover the Linux partition. But I feel the delete partition is a very rapid process just taking seconds and in that I don't think files would be deleted, so I feel potentially I can recover the deleted partitions including the boot partition. But I don't know how to do it. Also now when the boot partition is deleted and the system is not booting up what should be done to recover the system and data?

View 4 Replies View RelatedHadn't been on the computer for a couple of days, when I did I saw that Norton had found 2 high risk viruses (I don't recall what they were). I selected to fix both of them and it seemed to work. I also noticed that I had about 10 My Computer folders open. It then told me to reboot the computer, which I did. When the computer restarted, it seemed to power up OK, it then said starting Windows, and it went to the log-in screen. (I have two log-ins, one for me and one for my wife). When I click on either one of the two log-ins, it automatically says saving settings and logging off, and then it goes right back to the two log-in selections. I have tried to log-in in Safe Mode, and every other option available to me, and I get the same outcome. I tried the Recovery Disk that came with the computer, and it would not boot from the CD drive, even when I changed the settings to boot from the CD Drive. It tried to star once and I hit R for a Standard Recovery and it seemed to start, then I got a BOOT: Memory overflow error��..Please insert another disk and it just locked up. I rebooted and I could not get back to the recovery menu. It just sits there with a black screen with a blinking cursor and then I get the following error. �Disk Boot Failure, insert system disk and press enter�. And it does the same thing now every time I try it. Is there a way I can just get to normal DOS to try and recover my files?
