I seem to have lost the user account on my computer with XP home edition I can still log on to my computer via another user but of course I have lost all my saved emails and other saved items. I can retreive the files etc stored in the 'my documents' folder as that folder is still available in 'Documents & Settings' I realy want to log in to my old user account which ,incidentally, was not password protected.
I tried to make a Limited user account.I went to control panel -> user accounts and when I tried to create the account the Limited option was grayed out.I could not make it. So I created an administrator account anyways. I than switched to that new account (called it 2) and while inside that account (2) I went back to user accounts in control panel and than I was able to make a new account with limited access. So the problem now is here, when I try to log off from this account (2) I was unable to go back to my original account!! The account I was using before I made the limited account and before I even made 2. I want to go back to the other account because it has all my programs, desktop, favorites and other things. How do I go back to my original account while still having another account as limited? (I don't need the other account, the one I called 2)
Long story short, I just deleted one of my two user accounts on my home computer that had a personal folder that had EVERYTHING I ever kept on my computer in it. Any way to restore that user and get the contents of my folder back?
Is there a way to easily restore the files that were in a user account that was deleted such as in "my document" and the destop of that user name? Must restore, might have months of baby photos that are lost.
I am going over to a friends house this morning and help them clean out her computer. The only program that I am sure they have is Norton. I am planning to run scandisk, and defrag. Also I will take a look at her startup list and compare it with sysinfo.org/startuplist and remove what I feel comfortable doing. If not installed I will install Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner (but uncheck the registry cleaner). They both no very little about keeping the computer cleaned out.
I have been using an email draft to store information on a daily basis. Hundreds and hundreds of entries. Every once in a while I remember to send a copy to my Gmail acct for backup. Unfortunately the last time was Nov 22nd. Yesterday I accidentally clicked the wrong box when finished my entries and now it's gone Tried a system restore and that didn't work.is there any way to get it back?
I need help recovering my user files. My computer was acting very slow. I tried different restore times but was unable to solve the problem. it all started when I installed Nero. When I tried to access my music folder. I then got an error message stating that the folder was not responding. I then had the bright idea to do a PC recovery. bad idea. it deleted all of my user files except for shared files.
I was having trouble with my user account in XP, so I created a new one. I deleted the old one, and a window popped up that gave me the option to save all of that user's files to a desktop folder (named after the deleted user account) on the new user account' Desktop, so I chose that option. The file never appeared and now I can't find any of the files!! I've searched for specific file names and I haven't come up with anything.
i have windows xp home with sp2, my computer is a Dell 5000 with pentium 4. i have 3 administrator accounts. my problem is logging off. i cannot log off from any of the accounts, i can switch off or switch user but not log off. if i try to log off it goes as far as a black screen and then nothing, i can't use the task manager. the only way i can then do anything is to unplug the pc from the mains and start again.
I wanted to protect my documents on my laptop with a password, and I used ''the easy way'' of protecting it from within my XP user account (I used the built in documents password protection, found in the account mangement menu in the control panel). everything was fine until I've restarted the computer. I got (and still getting) the following message: ''The system could not log you on.
A way to recover deleted files that were deleted from the recycle bin.Maybe someone has a favorite utility that they've used with success.I am using Windows XP.
when i rebooted and logged into the system from the menu screen, a pop-up came on telling me that it could not find my account and that it will temporarily be replaced by one. It gave me a blank account as if I had nothing on it... ever. is there some way to recover my account or at least scavange some files(like my all-important hundreds of bookmarks full bookmarks file) from it? no system restore is not turned on, sadly.
One of my user account for window xp proffesional is missing.Orginally i had one user account and then i decided to make another one. When I was making the second one I had to choose adminstrative powers because it said that I didn't had any other accounts with adminstrative powers. Then after i restarted my original account was missing and I was like wtf! My files are all gone now.The original account name was Administrator. I still have the files for it in my C:Documents and Settings Administrator So how do I get it back?
Windows XP Home SP2 in a Gateway Performer 1300 P4 I recently purchased a used computer locally from a private party. It seemed to work fine. Once I got it home, however, I discovered that when I tried to install the drivers for my wireless adapter, the InstallShield Wizard would come up and extract the files from the CD and then go away and nothing would happen. When I went to the Windows update site, it would not down load the activeX control to check my computer for needed updates. It did the same thing. It would show that it downloaded the file and then nothing would happen. I talked to a local computer shop and they said they have had a lot of trouble with "broken" Windows Installers lately. So I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded the updated Windows Installer (as they suggested) and this did not change anything.
I've gotten myself in somewhat of a pickle. I have a system that I had built for my husband. I later built a new box for him and decided to sell the previous one. A friend wanted to buy it so I purchased a copy of Windows XP so they'd have their own license, but instead of rebuilding the box, I wiped all the pertinent programs and info they didn't have licenses for and changed the license number to theirs. The problem is, I want to change the user account name under c:documents and settings to reflect the new name.I have created a new ADMIN account, logged in as this account and renamed the account "mitch" to "don". All this does is creates a new user "don" and moves the "my documents" (I have downloaded numerous pdf files that I've created instructing him on how to update antivirus, antispyware and general info on computer use, security, etc. and placed it in the My Documents folder) from "mitch" to don".
I am using Windows XP Media Center Edition and I would like to use my current account as a Limited user account.
I realise that I will need at least one administrator account on my PC -- so I go into user accounts, create a new administrator account, then I try to change my current account to a limited account, but it will not let me.....
I was wondering if it is possible to recover files that have been deleted, the recycle bin was emptied and there was files in there that I want back. So I was wondering if it is possible, and if so, how I go about it.I wasn't 100% sure where to post this, so seeing as I have Windows XP I thought this would be the best place to post it.
I have scaned a document, and saved it like xx.jpg, but i have deleted it from recycle bin too..so can anybody tell me how can i recover this document cause i need it very much..P.S i tryed it to recover with recover my files program, but i cannot racover these files.
How do I recover an accidentaly deleted file from the recycle bin? By mistake, my recycle bin was emptied/deleted of its contents and there was a file in there I needed.
I have a regular xp computer and today, a 2003 word file was deleted from the recycle bin I needed that file! I don't know much about computers, so how could I restore my file so I can print it?
Is it possible to recover files you have deleted? When I got my new computer, I accidently deleted some programs files that I still needed..(I'm a novice..)
I accidentally started to install a new version of XP Home on an existing partition that had a good working XP home on it. I got to the point on the install where it highlighted the good partition and I hit "L" to erase it. At that point I stopped and tried a repair from the XP Home disk but no luck. Since it didn't overwrite it (probably just erased some pointers) is there any way to get back the good partition/OS that was on this disk?
I had just installed XP on my system and after installing some software from my external hard drive i realized that something went wrong with the install so i decided to reinstall the os. I forgot to swicht off my external hard drive and when windows loaded all the files and asked me where did i wanted to install xp and all that, both drives appeared, my internal hd and the external with all my data. i was doing something else at the same time and i wasn't paying all the attention i should have so i deleted the partition of my firewire Hd and just after i did it i realized my mistake. The file system for that drive is fat32 and there was only one partition. I did not formatted the ext. drive, i only deleted the partition.

I booted off the windows xp CD to partition an extra hard drive, but I accidentally deleted the main partition of my boot drive. i had to quickformat it to install windows on another drive. i am not writing any files to the drive at the moment and there must be a way to retreive the partition. i heard as long as you don't overwrite the data, you can somehow recover it.
I accidentally deleted a folder from my computer out of the recycle bin instead of restoring it. Well I know that if the data has not been written over by something else it can be recovered.
what i want to accomplish is to set an user account type automatically after creating one. as you may know, when you create an user account the system ask you what account type to apply for that new user. the default choice are: Administrator and Limited. i want to create an account that is not too limited but neighter with same privilege as an administrator. i went to the Local Users and Groups at the Microsoft Management Console (now on MMC) and assigned a different Group to each users i desired. task accomplished. but...
the problem is that i don't know how many user the computer will have. the owner of the computer are primitive human that don't know how to configure the system. i neighter want any of them to have administrative right because they have internet access and they still on the experiment process. meaning that they're propense to click 'YES' to any message even if those are viruses (most of them don't read english). the solution i thought was to assign only one user the administrative right so they can install and uninstall software and perform other administrative task as creating more user accounts. there is anyway that after creating an user account the system automatically assign the user a specific Groups? for example the built-in object Power User. or among the choice on user account tool add an new item or modify the existing items. or if there is anyway to modify the privilege and right for an built-in object Group. the Limited account pertain to the User Group, so instead of automatically assign other group, the new account inherit the privilage/right/limitation from the default group.
