It detected following virus ware and removed subsequently I want to recover deleted .pst and thunderbird mails.

I did not install windows, or format it, but when I rebooted windows, I cannot access it. It simply says. this disk is not formatted, would you like to format it now. Jan 17, 2008I accidentally started to install a new version of XP Home on an existing partition that had a good working XP home on it. I got to the point on the install where it highlighted the good partition and I hit "L" to erase it. At that point I stopped and tried a repair from the XP Home disk but no luck. Since it didn't overwrite it (probably just erased some pointers) is there any way to get back the good partition/OS that was on this disk?

I forgot to swicht off my external hard drive and when windows loaded all the files and asked me where did i wanted to install xp and all that, both drives appeared, my internal hd and the external with all my data. i was doing something else at the same time and i wasn't paying all the attention i should have so i deleted the partition of my firewire Hd and just after i did it i realized my mistake. The file system for that drive is fat32 and there was only one partition. I did not formatted the ext. drive, i only deleted the partition.

Also I will take a look at her startup list and compare it with sysinfo.org/startuplist and remove what I feel comfortable doing. If not installed I will install Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner (but uncheck the registry cleaner). They both no very little about keeping the computer cleaned out.

Jan 22, 2009Hadn't been on the computer for a couple of days, when I did I saw that Norton had found 2 high risk viruses (I don't recall what they were). I selected to fix both of them and it seemed to work. I also noticed that I had about 10 My Computer folders open. It then told me to reboot the computer, which I did. When the computer restarted, it seemed to power up OK, it then said starting Windows, and it went to the log-in screen. (I have two log-ins, one for me and one for my wife). When I click on either one of the two log-ins, it automatically says saving settings and logging off, and then it goes right back to the two log-in selections. I have tried to log-in in Safe Mode, and every other option available to me, and I get the same outcome. I tried the Recovery Disk that came with the computer, and it would not boot from the CD drive, even when I changed the settings to boot from the CD Drive. It tried to star once and I hit R for a Standard Recovery and it seemed to start, then I got a BOOT: Memory overflow error��..Please insert another disk and it just locked up. I rebooted and I could not get back to the recovery menu. It just sits there with a black screen with a blinking cursor and then I get the following error. �Disk Boot Failure, insert system disk and press enter�. And it does the same thing now every time I try it. Is there a way I can just get to normal DOS to try and recover my files?
