View 1 RepliesI was wondering this computer stays on all the time. I just put a new hard drive in and put the operating system on with the recovery cds. everything works great except for one problem. now 2 or 3 or 4 times a day when you use the computer, and no matter what you leave on when you walk away, like word or a site on the internet whatevert it may be and when you come back the screen is black and the error box that says no signal is on the screen. I made sure the graphics card has the newest driver, and the monitor is pretty new flat screen and always work well. I changed the monitor cable since it was saying no signal I figured it really had to be one of two things, either the monitor cable or the graphics card. My question is do you agree and will a graphics card do that when it is going out? will it work ok when you start the computer and then after awhile get no signal?

(boot prority set to cd)I extract Ntldr and ndtect from the windows xp disc and create boot.ini, then put all three file to the internal hard drive.This time it said hal file is missing.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIm working on a clients PC, Emachines with XP home on it, it was so filled with junk that we ghosted the drive and reinstalled XP with the Emachines restore disk onto a brand new drive....the cd restored the old os and programs (it actually used norton ghost, which i thought was kinda neat). Before restoring documents from the old drive, I decided to do the windows update, however when it gets to the windows update site, lots of problems occur....it sometimes cant load the page, and various updates (including SP2) always fail..I decided to restart the computer, as that often fixes odd little problems like that, only to have it give me "Operating System Not Found"

Everything was working great- and then boom- a Gateway screen with Boot Menu F10 or BIOS Settings F2.In several hours of playing around- I've gotten the desktop to appear twice. Both times, it's up for a minute or two before the blue screen pops up telling me Windows is shutting down.I pulled out the Toshiba HDD and snapped it back in place securely.I've played around with the BIOS (ordering?) HDD-CD-LAN, etc.I cannot determine a way to turn off shadowing or caching without Windows.I inserted the Applications and Drivers CD- which let me try to Boot off CD- unfortunately this didn't work any magic.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an acer travelmate 2450 that when it boots give me the ole "no operating system found" error. did a lil detective work in the bios and when i went there not only was it not showing the hdd but the cdrom drive was not listed either. took hdd out and rebooted system, went to bios and what do know the cd rom drive is detected. put a bootable xp home cd in and it loaded the cd after i set the boot order in the bios to boot cdrom drive first..all the while the hdd is not in there...ne way the cd booted but of course i couldnt find the hdd...put hdd back in and went back to the bios and there is no hdd but also no cd rom drive...my theory at first was that the hdd was bad but after doing this little troubleshooting scheme it seems that my problem may lie in the ata/ide interface for the hdd. why, i dunno nor do i know how to fix it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI tried to do a System Recovery today on my Sony laptop. Got 41% completed and had a fatal error. Options given were Ignore, Retry or Abort. Attempted a Retry. Got a fatal error message and everything locked up. I ended up shutting down and when I turned the computer on again it said no operating system found. Where did I screw up?
This is a six year old Sony, XP, AMD 1.0Ghz. Everything was working at the time I tried the System Recovery EXCEPT I was constantly getting low space messages for drive C. I have no files on this drive and very little software. It is a 20G hard drive partioned into two 10G partitions.
I have an HP Pavilion ze4900 notebook computer that was just purchased on November 30th. From the get go it has been displaying the message "Operating System not Found" when I try to boot up. Sometimes I would have to turn it off and on several times for it to boot up, but sometimes that wouldn't work. Usually I would have to boot up from the Recovery CD.
Well anyway after dealing with the system BIOS settings (boot order and whatnot), and repairing the OS twice, I decided to contact HP support. They instructed me to delete the partition on the hard drive, format it, and re-install Windows XP. Okay did that and proceeded to lose everything that was pre-installed on the notebook including the wireless capabilities, the SOUND and video driver, the modem drivers, everything. And for some strange reason none of those drivers are on the recovery CD. So basically the thing is now a peice of dead weight.
Well, I decided that I would just make the best of it and see what I could do to get it reinstalled. Until this morning when I turned it on again, guess what happened? OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND! So I lost everything that I loved and needed from the notebook for nothing because the @#$%! problem is still there!
The message I got when trying to boot up today. I had been away for a week and suspect that the teens were "messing" on my pc. I pressed Ctrl, Alt, Del and am at Compaq Computer Corporation Setup Utility - Main, Storage, Security, Advanced etc but don't know where to go from here.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find out what is wrong with my computer. I see this error: No Operating System Found when I try to boot up. It was gradual. My computer blue screened while I wasn't looking and rebooted itself. I then started up in safe mode and ran Adaware. Found and got rid of some spyware stuff. Rebooting and ran it again. It blue screened in the middle of the second run and I saw this message: kernal_data_inpage_error. Further down the screen was win32k.sys- Address and "stop: C00021a unknown hard error" As I am currently out of the country working in the Netherlands, I would like to have an idea of what the problem could be before I go visit a repair shop. The hope is that I reduce the chances of being taken advantage of.

So since it wold not stay on I removed the HD from the HP and installed it as a slave in my compaq. My compaq recognized it with no problem. I proceeded to run various scans on it(Many viruses) 200+. Still 14 of them remain. Note: The compaq stayed on. I removed the HD and put it back into the HP and upon start up I receive in black and white operating system not found" Hmmm, yes I put the jumper back to where it was BEFORE I reinstalled it in the hp. I have started to experience problems this started out being aload whinning noise that i have determined is either the hardrive or the a fan on the graphics card. I am worried that the harddrive is shot. The computer has started to tell me that there is a error speciffically "attribute seek error changes 100 to 200" so something is going on with the harddrive. I moved a couple of months back and am worried that the hardrive did not travel well. Also I have put in a new graphics card and wonder is it is producing much more heat. My sytem seems to be more and more unstable. I downloaded a trail versionof system mechanic and have used that to try and help but with little success. Every so often the computer would upon starting say that it had to check the Harddrive for systems intergity.
I know what to do but i am bit curious on the formatting bit. I have 2 hard drives, Harddrive "A" has all the window/program files as well as other programs like games and documents. Harddrive B is where i keep all my big files like videos and movies of course i want to format harddrive A but the thing is that harddrive is split in to 3 drives (C:, G:, F. I dont mind formating the c drive since it is all windows/program files but i dont really want to get rid of the G/F drive. I kno you can format the harddrive through the installation process of windows but i was wondering if it is possilbe to just to format the C: during that process or does it only format the whole harddrive
View 2 Replies View RelatedI reformatted my hard drive due to OS issues, I was running a trial version of Server 2003 along with XP Pro, and I had to get rid of Server 2003 because it was conflicting with XP Pro, and so the only way to do that was by reformatting both hard drives including XP Pro because Server 2003 was acting as the dominant OS, so I backed up all my ****, and reinstalled XP Pro, but now I get this hard drive problem that it says only 51 Gigs are remaining on a 250GB Hard drive, when the only thing installed on that hard drive is XP pro and maybe 15 applications, I tried using every program I can think of to find hidden files that equal a huge size but nothing shows up

I got a trojan that attached to my browser. I managed to get rid of it by system restore.A few days later I noticed I only had 127 GB of my 300GB harddrive showing.I did manage to find the missing space though Disk Management. It was showing 170GB as unallocated space. I named it E: and formatted it.It now shows in My Computer as New Volume E: When I open E:I get 2 folders, Recycler and System volume Information. SVI will not open. I wanted to format my computer completely anyways, and would like to know how i can format my computer and merge these two partitions. I have the formatting disks, but it never goes to a screen asking me about my partitions, it just formats everything on my C: (my default drive), but keeps everything on my D: intact (games, files, etc.).
View 8 Replies View RelatedRecently upgraded my laptop to windows XP from ME. I first replaced my 5 gig hard drive with a 20 gig hard drive. I added another 128 memory module for a total of 256. For an old machine it really hums now. Three minor problems are bugging me though. 1. I lost the sounds from my modem. The modem works fine except for no sound. I assume that the sound is from the unimodem half-duplex audio device that is located on the Lucent winmodem. I have checked everything. The system says that it is working correctly. I cannot even find the driver for this on microsoft . I thought if I could load a new driver it might work. No such thing. 2. System restore didn't work until I erased all the memory points and reloaded the program. Now if I open siystem restore and click on "settings" or "help" System restore shuts down. I assume it is corrupted and would like to reload it.
