Im working on a clients PC, Emachines with XP home on it, it was so filled with junk that we ghosted the drive and reinstalled XP with the Emachines restore disk onto a brand new drive....the cd restored the old os and programs (it actually used norton ghost, which i thought was kinda neat). Before restoring documents from the old drive, I decided to do the windows update, however when it gets to the windows update site, lots of problems occur....it sometimes cant load the page, and various updates (including SP2) always fail..I decided to restart the computer, as that often fixes odd little problems like that, only to have it give me "Operating System Not Found"
I have an inspiron 1501, and when opening it this morning, get message that stated "operating system not found." It worked yesterday, I have trend micro as virus protection, although not sure if that information is pertinent or not.
I Have a 4 year old Gateway laptop that just crashed on me. Everything was working great- and then boom- a Gateway screen with Boot Menu F10 or BIOS Settings F2.In several hours of playing around- I've gotten the desktop to appear twice. Both times, it's up for a minute or two before the blue screen pops up telling me Windows is shutting down.I pulled out the Toshiba HDD and snapped it back in place securely.I've played around with the BIOS (ordering?) HDD-CD-LAN, etc.I cannot determine a way to turn off shadowing or caching without Windows.I inserted the Applications and Drivers CD- which let me try to Boot off CD- unfortunately this didn't work any magic.
I have an acer travelmate 2450 that when it boots give me the ole "no operating system found" error. did a lil detective work in the bios and when i went there not only was it not showing the hdd but the cdrom drive was not listed either. took hdd out and rebooted system, went to bios and what do know the cd rom drive is detected. put a bootable xp home cd in and it loaded the cd after i set the boot order in the bios to boot cdrom drive first..all the while the hdd is not in there...ne way the cd booted but of course i couldnt find the hdd...put hdd back in and went back to the bios and there is no hdd but also no cd rom drive...my theory at first was that the hdd was bad but after doing this little troubleshooting scheme it seems that my problem may lie in the ata/ide interface for the hdd. why, i dunno nor do i know how to fix it.
I tried to do a System Recovery today on my Sony laptop. Got 41% completed and had a fatal error. Options given were Ignore, Retry or Abort. Attempted a Retry. Got a fatal error message and everything locked up. I ended up shutting down and when I turned the computer on again it said no operating system found. Where did I screw up?
This is a six year old Sony, XP, AMD 1.0Ghz. Everything was working at the time I tried the System Recovery EXCEPT I was constantly getting low space messages for drive C. I have no files on this drive and very little software. It is a 20G hard drive partioned into two 10G partitions.
I have an HP Pavilion ze4900 notebook computer that was just purchased on November 30th. From the get go it has been displaying the message "Operating System not Found" when I try to boot up. Sometimes I would have to turn it off and on several times for it to boot up, but sometimes that wouldn't work. Usually I would have to boot up from the Recovery CD.
Well anyway after dealing with the system BIOS settings (boot order and whatnot), and repairing the OS twice, I decided to contact HP support. They instructed me to delete the partition on the hard drive, format it, and re-install Windows XP. Okay did that and proceeded to lose everything that was pre-installed on the notebook including the wireless capabilities, the SOUND and video driver, the modem drivers, everything. And for some strange reason none of those drivers are on the recovery CD. So basically the thing is now a peice of dead weight.
Well, I decided that I would just make the best of it and see what I could do to get it reinstalled. Until this morning when I turned it on again, guess what happened? OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND! So I lost everything that I loved and needed from the notebook for nothing because the @#$%! problem is still there!
The message I got when trying to boot up today. I had been away for a week and suspect that the teens were "messing" on my pc. I pressed Ctrl, Alt, Del and am at Compaq Computer Corporation Setup Utility - Main, Storage, Security, Advanced etc but don't know where to go from here.
I'm trying to find out what is wrong with my computer. I see this error: No Operating System Found when I try to boot up. It was gradual. My computer blue screened while I wasn't looking and rebooted itself. I then started up in safe mode and ran Adaware. Found and got rid of some spyware stuff. Rebooting and ran it again. It blue screened in the middle of the second run and I saw this message: kernal_data_inpage_error. Further down the screen was win32k.sys- Address and "stop: C00021a unknown hard error" As I am currently out of the country working in the Netherlands, I would like to have an idea of what the problem could be before I go visit a repair shop. The hope is that I reduce the chances of being taken advantage of.
I loaded windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86i on my pc runninig win xp and after laoding it it contiuously started to reboot stating no operating system and harddrive to be found. it happen 2 me on laptop and pc
this is going to be long. I have an HP computer with win xp on it. It's problem was that it would not stay on longer than 15 minutes. So since it wold not stay on I removed the HD from the HP and installed it as a slave in my compaq. My compaq recognized it with no problem. I proceeded to run various scans on it(Many viruses) 200+. Still 14 of them remain. Note: The compaq stayed on. I removed the HD and put it back into the HP and upon start up I receive in black and white operating system not found" Hmmm, yes I put the jumper back to where it was BEFORE I reinstalled it in the hp. I have win xp disc so I tried to reformat using the win xp code that came with the HP. No luck. I received MANY many errors, such as cant load acpiec.sys, usbstor.sys, htkrnlmp.exe .
I'm trying to fix my friends Hp and I usually know what im doing. But here I have no idea what to do. I tried going into the bios to change the boot order to cd to format and I can't. Can anyone tell me what to do.I changed out his hard drive with mine and it does nothing. just posts and goes to a black screen instead of trying to boot and blue screening as it usually do when you change hardrives between two computers.Changed the Ide cables no luck.
It says windows can't be started up because windowssystem32configsystem is damaged or can't be found.I already tried bootcfg but doesn't make any differnce.
I shut off the computer and turning it back on couldn't boot up windows. It gave the windows wasn't shut down properly and I tried the normal restart option and it would just give a black screen with a blinking _ and then nothing happens. Tried loading in safe mode but it gets to mup.sys then "Press Esc to cancel SPTD.sys" flashes below and whether I press Esc or let it be, nothing happens after that.
I tried popping in the windows xp disc that came with the laptop, boot from disc, it starts up but then after loading everything, it then says "Windows is starting up" the disc stops spinning then nothing happens. I tried popping in a windows vista disc and it says "Windows is loading files" with a progress bar, when it fills up, I get stuck with a blank black screen the disc stops spinning and then nothing happens.
Some time ago I booted up my computer,to find that my XP switched to Windows classic style,I didn't take it seriously so I went to properties to change when I get an error message saying there is a problem with run32.dll,not only that, but the visual styles can't load I assume, becuase of run32.dll,so now I'm stuck with the piece of s*** style.
The situation: A reasonably new PC, clean and working properly. Several new programs are installed, including Firefox, Winamp, desktop publishing, photo manager, and security software (not the antivirus, standalone scanners.) Everything appears to be fine.I log on to Windows Live OneCare to use their "Safety Scanner" to, as they say, check for PC health issues and optimize performance. Mind you, the site recommends users log on once a month for the full service scan. As you know, the scan includes the removal of what it refers to as invalid registry entries. "Oh boy," right? The registry. Except you'd like to believe the official Microsoft site won't screw up your programs.
Should I ever use one of the utility programs to wipe my hard drive completely, how do I reinstall Windows XP since the CD driver has been erased? How can you reinstall an operating system that is on CD when you have no driver for the CD player? The reason I am asking these questions is that I might want to give my computer to friend and I want my stuff off of the hard drive and my friend to be able to use the computer.
The folk at this forum have helped me out massively before, so I again humbly seek you expertise. My XP machine tells me that a file in the config/system directory is missing or corrupt. So I put the XP disk in and it loaded up some things, only to tell me that it cant find any drives. I checked - the physical drives are there (a pair of Seagate 160Gb set up as mirrors in RAID - the RAID screen appears before the "config/system" error message) and I pulled the connectors apart and and put them together again.
800 MHz processor PC with 256MB RAM and a WD hard drive. She runs Windows XP Professional on it. She walked away from her computer for awhile, and when she came back there was a black screen on it saying basically that it couldn't find any of the devices that are actually attached to the computer i.e. hard drive, CD-ROM. It also said boot record not found. So I decided to have her try the Windows Recovery Console to try and help fix the boot.ini file. Well, when she typed in the command, it didn't work and said invalid entry or system drive not found.
I un-installed AOE3 the trial version. the day after i went to use Microsoft Works Word Processor. and I got a error saysing. "This application has failed to start because Msi.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem" so I went to add/remove programs and I got a error saying something like windows installer is not installed. so I went and looked how to fix that.. went through the steps of fixing that. restarted my computer. and went to click on add/remove programs under control panel. and it will no longer open.So then I had the bright idea of doing a system restore. and everything before the day of the uninstall of AOE3 is gone. and so I went to do the system restore to the day I uninstalled it. and I click the date. click the first next. then where it goes to the page that gives you the warnings. and says you wont lose documents and e=mails and I click next and it goes no further.
my computer has been operating very slowly lately, and my computer protection software (Defender Pro 5 in 1) detected an apparently infected driver. The notification said that the driver was infected by an email virus and it recommended deleting the driver. Thinking that it couldn't cause much harm, I took the recommendation and deleted the driver. The next time I started my computer, it seemed to boot normally: it showed the normal XP home edition loading screen, then it showed the blue screen of death! The screen said something like "autocheck.exe not found. Skipping autocheck."
my computer attack viruses last weeks.so i got system alert message. since i deleted that viruses. But system alert message didn't go.Please tell any for how delete or cancel that system alert message.

The problem now is there is NO audio device, I cannot download some of programs from the CD's--it can't find the installation program.I have no sound and cannot donwload some of the programs that came with this computer.

After formatting and installing W2k on a DEll 4100 PIII I'm getting the 'new device found' wizard and it says I have a PCI device not being found.. But all my devices are working (i.e. modem, sound card etc.) When I right click on properties in the device manager it says "PCI Bus 0, device 31, function 3" Anyone know how I can tell what device it's finding and can't locate a driver for?
My mother was in the middle of a system restore on her hp computer which is now out of warranty and shut down the power. The computer will not bring up a start menu and lists the browseui.dll now found. I did see the another person asking about this and now have the link and have zipped the info to a disk, however I am lost from this point. How do I get it restored on the computer?
