Nov 1, 2009I have an inspiron 1501, and when opening it this morning, get message that stated "operating system not found." It worked yesterday, I have trend micro as virus protection, although not sure if that information is pertinent or not.

Dec 8, 2004Im working on a clients PC, Emachines with XP home on it, it was so filled with junk that we ghosted the drive and reinstalled XP with the Emachines restore disk onto a brand new drive....the cd restored the old os and programs (it actually used norton ghost, which i thought was kinda neat). Before restoring documents from the old drive, I decided to do the windows update, however when it gets to the windows update site, lots of problems occur....it sometimes cant load the page, and various updates (including SP2) always fail..I decided to restart the computer, as that often fixes odd little problems like that, only to have it give me "Operating System Not Found"

Sep 24, 2007I Have a 4 year old Gateway laptop that just crashed on me. Everything was working great- and then boom- a Gateway screen with Boot Menu F10 or BIOS Settings F2.In several hours of playing around- I've gotten the desktop to appear twice. Both times, it's up for a minute or two before the blue screen pops up telling me Windows is shutting down.I pulled out the Toshiba HDD and snapped it back in place securely.I've played around with the BIOS (ordering?) HDD-CD-LAN, etc.I cannot determine a way to turn off shadowing or caching without Windows.I inserted the Applications and Drivers CD- which let me try to Boot off CD- unfortunately this didn't work any magic.

Jul 18, 2009I have an acer travelmate 2450 that when it boots give me the ole "no operating system found" error. did a lil detective work in the bios and when i went there not only was it not showing the hdd but the cdrom drive was not listed either. took hdd out and rebooted system, went to bios and what do know the cd rom drive is detected. put a bootable xp home cd in and it loaded the cd after i set the boot order in the bios to boot cdrom drive first..all the while the hdd is not in there...ne way the cd booted but of course i couldnt find the hdd...put hdd back in and went back to the bios and there is no hdd but also no cd rom drive...my theory at first was that the hdd was bad but after doing this little troubleshooting scheme it seems that my problem may lie in the ata/ide interface for the hdd. why, i dunno nor do i know how to fix it.

Sep 12, 2008I tried to do a System Recovery today on my Sony laptop. Got 41% completed and had a fatal error. Options given were Ignore, Retry or Abort. Attempted a Retry. Got a fatal error message and everything locked up. I ended up shutting down and when I turned the computer on again it said no operating system found. Where did I screw up?
This is a six year old Sony, XP, AMD 1.0Ghz. Everything was working at the time I tried the System Recovery EXCEPT I was constantly getting low space messages for drive C. I have no files on this drive and very little software. It is a 20G hard drive partioned into two 10G partitions.
On Boot Up - Operating System Not Found
Dec 21, 2004I have an HP Pavilion ze4900 notebook computer that was just purchased on November 30th. From the get go it has been displaying the message "Operating System not Found" when I try to boot up. Sometimes I would have to turn it off and on several times for it to boot up, but sometimes that wouldn't work. Usually I would have to boot up from the Recovery CD.
Well anyway after dealing with the system BIOS settings (boot order and whatnot), and repairing the OS twice, I decided to contact HP support. They instructed me to delete the partition on the hard drive, format it, and re-install Windows XP. Okay did that and proceeded to lose everything that was pre-installed on the notebook including the wireless capabilities, the SOUND and video driver, the modem drivers, everything. And for some strange reason none of those drivers are on the recovery CD. So basically the thing is now a peice of dead weight.
Well, I decided that I would just make the best of it and see what I could do to get it reinstalled. Until this morning when I turned it on again, guess what happened? OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND! So I lost everything that I loved and needed from the notebook for nothing because the @#$%! problem is still there!

Feb 2, 2007I'm trying to find out what is wrong with my computer. I see this error: No Operating System Found when I try to boot up. It was gradual. My computer blue screened while I wasn't looking and rebooted itself. I then started up in safe mode and ran Adaware. Found and got rid of some spyware stuff. Rebooting and ran it again. It blue screened in the middle of the second run and I saw this message: kernal_data_inpage_error. Further down the screen was win32k.sys- Address and "stop: C00021a unknown hard error" As I am currently out of the country working in the Netherlands, I would like to have an idea of what the problem could be before I go visit a repair shop. The hope is that I reduce the chances of being taken advantage of.

Aug 12, 2007this is going to be long. I have an HP computer with win xp on it. It's problem was that it would not stay on longer than 15 minutes. So since it wold not stay on I removed the HD from the HP and installed it as a slave in my compaq. My compaq recognized it with no problem. I proceeded to run various scans on it(Many viruses) 200+. Still 14 of them remain. Note: The compaq stayed on. I removed the HD and put it back into the HP and upon start up I receive in black and white operating system not found" Hmmm, yes I put the jumper back to where it was BEFORE I reinstalled it in the hp. I have win xp disc so I tried to reformat using the win xp code that came with the HP. No luck. I received MANY many errors, such as cant load acpiec.sys, usbstor.sys, htkrnlmp.exe .

Mar 26, 2010So I have tried EVERYTHING to get an operating system onto my Acer 3610 laptop. It has a brand new IDE Hard Drive, brand new RAM chips.
I have tried to load XP by using the standard install disc. I have tried to pre-load the i386 folder onto the HD and run through DOS. I have tried to install DOS 7.1. I have tried to install XP using a Win98 Boot Disc. I have tried to install using Hiren's Boot CD.
Every time I try there is an unknown issue. When directly booting from XP cd gives a "LINE 1026 txtsetup.sif error." DOS 7.1 has a "CPU Error - Incorrect OPCODE." I have tried using another laptop to start the XP install process, then move the hard drive back to the Acer when XP setup reaches the "Remove DISC and restart computer" portion.
I cannot seem to figure out what the issue is. I have seen posts saying several of these are hardware issues, although every removable piece of hardware is either replaced or have been reset on the laptop.

Sep 26, 2008HP Pavilion 6870us laptop. As you can research, this computer came with an nVidia GeForce 8400gs graphics card to accompany Windows Vista. (Ick) I don't say that from a very valid standpoint, for I just find XP much lighter and easier to navigate. Like I'm running the computer, not the other way around. Well, I used the Vista installed partitioner to segregate a little chunk of my hard drive so that I could put XP onto the computer as well as Vista. While this was successful, I'm having a miserable time trying to find a driver for this video card. I've tried installing the Vista version, but it starts screaming that I'm retarded and that it's only for Vista (naturally). I know most of the drivers that were used in the Vista format work for XP as well.

Dec 5, 2007I have an Acer Travelmate 4200 that got a drink spilled on it last night. It spilled all over the keyboard, so we took apart the top section of the keyboard to clean it out and dried it upside down last night to get any remaining liquid out.
Now the computer will not load. The green power light comes on and it acts like it is trying to read the DVD drive but then it does nothing. The fan comes on as well. But no screen or anything else.

Oct 8, 2007I have been trying to help a friend update or correct her winxp on her HP pavilion 520w I have a copy of my winxp cd from my dell system however I dont have the product key code to use it. So I have tried repeatedly to reset her computer to boot from her cdrom without success. I even posted here last week and someone suggested to tap the delete key when rebooting to change the boot sequence. I wasnt able to get it to work. However I did accidently discover that tapping F10 brings up the Recover system on her computer. Not knowing exactly for sure if I could just correct her winxp with recoverying the whole system I turned off the computer to stop it. I have 3 questions if the Recovery System on this HP model allows you to correct a current copy of your windows without reformatting? how to set this HP model to reboot from the CD-rom?

Mar 15, 2005A friend of mine had me take a look at her gateway solo 1450 because she said that when it booted she would get a message stating the OS was not found. I looked at it, and it has booted every time but once (30 different boots). The one time it didn't the BIOS did not recognize the hard drive as being present. 1) Introduction: Basically, I purchased a newly refurbished laptop HP Compaq NX7400 on Friday. I had them deliver it with no software as it reduced its price and I don?t like vista yet. When I went to install an OS (XP PRO SP1) it gave me an error message as follows: Setup did not find any HDD installed in your computer.
Make sure any HDD are powered on and properly connected to your computer and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. etup can not continue. To quit setup press F3?

A) I formatted and partitioned my hard drive using Western Digital?s Data Life Guard (DLG) it was an 80 GB hard drive. Okay so there is one there. But the odd thing was that it was registered as a BIOS hard drive? I am not sure on this?....

Aug 19, 2009I shut off the computer and turning it back on couldn't boot up windows. It gave the windows wasn't shut down properly and I tried the normal restart option and it would just give a black screen with a blinking _ and then nothing happens. Tried loading in safe mode but it gets to mup.sys then "Press Esc to cancel SPTD.sys" flashes below and whether I press Esc or let it be, nothing happens after that.
I tried popping in the windows xp disc that came with the laptop, boot from disc, it starts up but then after loading everything, it then says "Windows is starting up" the disc stops spinning then nothing happens. I tried popping in a windows vista disc and it says "Windows is loading files" with a progress bar, when it fills up, I get stuck with a blank black screen the disc stops spinning and then nothing happens.
