Thinkpad T41 with a OEM xp pro installed. This laptop is no longer usable, I would like to take the hard drive installed and install in another T41 with similiar configuration. I would assume XP will recognize the new laptop and cause problems.

I have 9 folders and a few tiny files on C: and very few programs installed.If I add the sizes of 9 folders (Windows-3.09 GB Program files-1GB) I only get about 5GB.What or where might the other 4 GB be?

Such as suddenly begin to give sounds like TICK, TICK TICK. Suddenly vanishes from the 'MY COMPUTER' drives. Suddenly denies to copy paste functions. BIOS shows both SATA drives. But Win XP doesn't load or simply hangs while starting up [booting up]. It happens when I attach second SATA drive with system. If only one SATA is attached, then WIN XP boots normally.

I have looked in the forum, but couldnt find someone with the exact problem.
My laptop suddenly started to freeze (temporarily) when I try to load any application. The freeze time could take 2 to 5 min (while the hard disk led is lit solid). I cannot hear the hard disk sound during this freeze. I could move the mouse but cannot click on anything. It just stops responding for about 5 min before the application loads and works normally.
I am after help in that i would like to take hard drive, volume 27g from one laptop win xp pro, and place on another laptop 80g win xp home.I do have memory flash but only 256mb.I also think i will need to look at partioning drives do hope i get a reply/plural great support

View 11 Replies View RelatedSo I have tried EVERYTHING to get an operating system onto my Acer 3610 laptop. It has a brand new IDE Hard Drive, brand new RAM chips.
I have tried to load XP by using the standard install disc. I have tried to pre-load the i386 folder onto the HD and run through DOS. I have tried to install DOS 7.1. I have tried to install XP using a Win98 Boot Disc. I have tried to install using Hiren's Boot CD.
Every time I try there is an unknown issue. When directly booting from XP cd gives a "LINE 1026 txtsetup.sif error." DOS 7.1 has a "CPU Error - Incorrect OPCODE." I have tried using another laptop to start the XP install process, then move the hard drive back to the Acer when XP setup reaches the "Remove DISC and restart computer" portion.
I cannot seem to figure out what the issue is. I have seen posts saying several of these are hardware issues, although every removable piece of hardware is either replaced or have been reset on the laptop.
I have an Acer Travelmate 4200 that got a drink spilled on it last night. It spilled all over the keyboard, so we took apart the top section of the keyboard to clean it out and dried it upside down last night to get any remaining liquid out.
Now the computer will not load. The green power light comes on and it acts like it is trying to read the DVD drive but then it does nothing. The fan comes on as well. But no screen or anything else.

When I was finished I then put the original second harddrive back and now it is not recognized anywhere. Why? I may have moved the jumpers but I am pretty sure I did not. View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried to install a operating system disk xp pro which was supposed to be an unnattended install, but I wish I had attended now, I dont know what its done but when I came back it had a message 'setup cannot copy the file irmk7w2k to skip this file press escape to quit setup press f3 to retry press enter' I decided to quit setup and run my own os disk again I have used this disk plenty of times but this time it came up with the same message that I got on the other disk. So I thought something had been left on the harddrive so I put my wipe clean cd in to clean the hard drive and then I formatted and I was still getting the same message on setup. How can this be happening and how do I fix it? Thanks. I have an os on now but it is corrupted and I cannot get online there are plenty of files missing because I pressed skip this file plenty of times just to get some sort of operating system on. I have winxp on the 40 bg (single c: partition) as well as some files, and data and music on the 160 gb (about 50 or so gb full one partition-F. I want to take the F drive, the bigger one, and put it in my new computer. also, i want to install winxp PRO on the F: drive. so,can i add another partition on there now (so i dont lose files- i have insufficient room to backup F to C) and install xp pro, can i move the harddrive later and install xppro? basically, i want to lose no data and am unsure i have enough room to backup F, is there a way or program i can use to add a nother partition to an already formatted disk,what is the best way to do this?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have two laptops, a ThinkPad T30 and a Latitude C840 (they are both working with XP SP2, except the T30 doesn't have a screen). I'd like to move the T30's drive into the C840, but when I do this, the C840 will hang right after the BIOS screen (incl. the XP CD's Press a key to boot off the CD if I tell it to boot from the disc drive first). My first thought was to try Recovery Console from the XP CD. I can log into the install, and I've already tried fixmbring and fixbooting it. This doesn't help.
This leaves the option of the drivers not being right. I installed the C840 chipset drivers, nothing. I'd really rather not go on a wild goose chase trying to figure out what'll get things up and running

Per "My Computer", the drives are: C:= 200 gig, File: system NTSF. D:= 8.5gig (A partition on the C Drive, it contains HP_Recovery), File: system FAT32. E:= LightScribe DVD/CD Burner/Player, F:= My "Back-up" HD, 160 gig, Seagate Ultra ATA/100, File: system NTSF. G, H, I & J are available for future use.
I backed up all my files etc. from my old PC (Windows Me upgraded to XP) onto the 160 gig HD. The "Back-up" HD was the slave in my old PC. It contains Files etc. there is no Operating System on it.
After installing the "Back-up" HD in the new PC I get an "Error loading OS" message when I boot-up. If I turn off the PC, wait 60 seconds and then turn it on it loads OK and yes I can access the 2nd HD, copy files and paste them into the new 200 gig HD etc.

(I have my reasons for doing that) i hooked up the hard drive and when i turned on my computer, it loads the screen(the screen where it shows the master, slave, etc.). I need to reformat it, however, the cd drive doesnt really work anymore (this is the second cd drive its had). I would rather not spend money on a cd drive or anything, and was wondering if there was anyway to use a boot disk to format it, then if there was any way to install network drivers and use a network to install windows. That at least is my present theory of how to go about this, but I'm not sure if it's even possible, and I'm searching around online right now.
