why my Windowx XP sees only 1024 MB memory while I've increased the original memory of 512 MB by 2x 512 MB ?My motherboard has three DDR-slots. It had from the beginning a Kingston K 512MB PC2700 module in slot #1. This week I've added two Kingston K512 UDIMM 512MB PC2700 modules in the slots #2 and #3.All three modules has the type name KVR333X64C25/512, so I thought they would be compatible.

A firend of mine (yes really) tried to fit some extra memory to an old computer. It seems it was incompatible 'cos it didn't boot.Apparently it hasn't booted since either - despite replacing with original memory! The computer always says ' windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt : system 32driverspcisys'. ( or to that effect - it's what he wrote down). He has the winxp installation disc. Can someone advise in reasonable detail how to remedy the problem without a reinstall

I just built a bran new computer.eVGA 680i MoboXtreme OC Corssair Ram 2 GB
2 SLI Geforce 7600 GT OC graphics cards16MB cache 320GB HD 7200RPMIntel E6600 Core 2 Duo processor00w Xtreme Gamer OCZ power supply I have also installed a fresh copy of windows XP home. I have re-installed it several times to see if that was the issue. Every time I start the computer everything works fast until it gets to the Windows splash logo loading screen. It sits there for about 45 to 50 seconds every time. I have done some research and one forum said that this may happen because of a missing file or corrupted file in windows and for me to check my Device Manager. I went through all those steps and everything seems to be ok. I have reinstalled many times and it still does

I recently was given a Dell laptop by my brother. It was (key word) working fine for him. He installed an additional memory chip, started the laptop to check it out. Shut it down, put it in the box and shipped it to me. When I try to boot up, it says that it failed and the "suspend to disk" screen comes up. I can't get it to boot in any mode (safe, normal, last previous working, etc)

For a while now "Thumbs.db" files have been appearing in association with other files/folders. They took me by surprise, and I decided to delete. However, there is a warning that the 'system' may need them. What do I do with them? Especially when I am deleting a whole folder.

When I attempt to run older programs not specifically made for windows XP I have recently started receiving the following error when I try to install:16 bit Windows Subsystem c:WindowsSystem32autoexec.nt. This system file is not suitable for running MS-Dos and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application. Then there are 2 buttons, one says 'close' the other 'ignore'. Both terminate the installation or the running of the program. I don't think it is an issue with the games, as there is at least one I could run before but cannot run now.

I am trying to upgrade the RAM memory on my Gateway MX3230 notebook. It presently has 256 MB and I would like to upgrade to 1 GB. I have checked the Gateway website and and upgrade to 1 GB is acceptable. I purchased a memory module from Kingston which was listed as being compatible with my laptop. When I tried installing the module, the computer will not start, nothing but black screen. It's as thought there is no memory at all. I tried re-installing the module making sure it was inserted in as far as it will go, still no luck. There is no settings in bios that I can see that would prevent the acceptance of this module

I am using Intel pentium 4 cpu 2.40GHz, 1.25 GB RAM. Iam using 80 GB samsung hard disk.
I installed Microsoft Windows XP Professional service pack 2 on a drive of 10 GB memory space with NTFS file system.
After the installation of Win XP, the drive properties shows 4.9 GB of used memory and only 4.45 GB of free memory, but when I try to find total memory occupied for all the files in that drive (using "select-all" and properties) the used memory is only 2.3 GB only.
Now I don't understand the huge difference of this memories calculations. Where that extra used memory gone, when the total memory occupied by all the files is much less.

I have a white box Pentium 4 CPU with XP professional service pack 2 build 2600 installed. The motherboard is an intel D865GLC with 512 MB RAM installed in Dual channel mode with 1 256 MB stick of ram in slot zero of bank 1 and 1 256 MB stick of ram in slot zero of bank 2. This memory is dual channel compatible. I tried to add another 2 sticks of the same type ram but from a different manufacturer.
Here's the problem: I can use any 2 of the 4 sticks of ram together, both from the same manufacturer or 1 from 1 manufacturer and 1 from the other for a total of 512 MB. Everything works fine. I can place one stick in slot 0 of bank 1 and the other in slot 0 of bank 2 or I can place 1 in slot 1 bank 1 and 1 in slot 1 of bank 2 with no problems. I can even place a 3rd stick of the same type ram in any open slot and all's fine (except the machine complains that this is not an optimal memory setup). Memtest86 reports no errors with any of the above configurations

I am currently working on a computer for a friend. It's a Lenovo desktop. 3000 series I believe. There is supposed to be a recovery partition on this machine but it is screwed and I do not have the recovery CDs. Getting them from Lenovo seems to be out of the question as they said they would only send them to me if the computer was still under warranty.I am trying to reinstall XP Pro. I have a valid OEM product key on the side of the machine. I figured it was OEM because the key would not work with any ordinary XP Pro CD.Does anyone know of a way to reinstall XP Pro on this machine using the CD key on the side without the recovery CD?

I have a Dell Dimension Desktop that became infected with a pretty nasty virus. I have had to remove the infected HD from the machine. Instead of trashing the machine, I would like to just purchase an entirely new HD for this machine. I am guessing that when purchasing a new HD that it does NOT already come with an O/S already installed. If this guess is correct, my question is this:Can I use the original O/S Reinstallation CD that came with the machine to get the O/S installed on the new HD? ORDo I have to purchase the O/S along with the new internal HD? If more information is needed before an answer can be provided, please let me know what is needed.

I plan on restoring my HP a330n. The last time I restored I had driver problems with my sound card, and LAN. Is their anyway I can save the driver to disk and apply when restore is complete? Also I DO NOT have my original restore disk, but I have the option to just use the in-system restore option, or create disk. Should I create or does it not matter? Also how can I restore the system completely, the last time i did "Complete Restore" there were still unwanted files in the PC.

From searching and reading past posts I've come to the following conclusion
and would like someone to verify please... The best way to transfer all
pertinent data to a new pc (both with Windows XP home version) is toLoad all programs in with original software CD's then,Use the "File Transfer Wizard" found in the help/support section to transfer all the files and folders. Correct?
I assume I can use a crossover usb cable with the "Wizard" Is there a way to get to the File Transfer Wizard without

So installed WinXP Pro on my 3 month old HP pavillion personal computer and I am having an issue with the ram Apparently windows is only recognizing half of it.Here are some of the most pertinent details: AMD Turion64 ML-34,Radeon Xpress 200m w/128 MB on the video card. There are 512 MB installed DDR, Dual Channel. The bios is recognizing all 512 of the ram, but windows properties only shows 256.dxdiag also shows 256, but CPU-Z shows all 512.Does anyone have any idea whats going on? Has anyone actually experienced this phenomenon? I don't know if this is just a reading error, causing no performance difference, but I think I can feel the difference, but since its pretty new and the operating system has only been installed for about 2 weeks, I haven't gotten to get a good feel of what its supposed to be. I have also noticed in the past couple days that it takes a very long time to boot.
