Product Key-legally Use This Key To Use In Installing XP Having No Original Cd
Nov 21, 2007
my pc had the Windows XP Home Edition Product Key label with the key on the bottom. I didn't receive a Windows XP disk with this laptop. How can I legally use this key to use in installing XP Home Edition.
I reinstalled windows xp and used the product key on the sticker at the bottom of the laptop but it is saying CD key you entered is not valid. Who do I need to call and what information do I need to know?
I'm having trouble changing my product key. when I upgraded from 98 to XP pro,it was with a pirate copy of XPpro CD. However, I very soon saw the error of my ways and legalised my software online by purchasing a licence with which came a new product key. This was all done online and automatically. Now, here's the thing. Due to an old and failing C drive, I have installed a new hard drive with the intention of transfering all of my files over to it before the old one gives up completely and I lose everything.
The problem is, although my existing OS and product key are completely legal, the only system CD I have is my old pirate one which will not load using the legal key.I have loaded it using the old key with the intention of changing it afterwards but, having followed the process to change it, when I run Jelly Bean Keyfinder, it shows the old key.I have also tried a microsoft windows verification and it confirms that it is not a legal licence. The process I used to change the key was: Change the OOBE Timer number in regedit, Run c:windowssystem32oobemsoobe.exe /a and run change product key, reboot and run c:windowssystem32oobemsoobe.exe /a again which tells me that windows is already activated.
I have an HP laptop with a product key on it, for Windows XP Pro. I don't have any CD's with it. I do have access to an HP OEM XP CD, from my desktop. Will I be able to enter in the product key from the laptop if I used the OEM CD I have? Is there any other way to do that if it doesn't work?
I'm trying to setup a batch file that executes the Office 2003 Standard installation when a user logs in for the first time. how I can automate the insertion of the product key without any user interaction?
I HAVE MICROSOFT VALID XP PRO CD WITH LEGIT. PRODUCT KEY. WHEN I GO TO WINDOWS UPDATES I GET AN INVALID PRODUCT KEY MESSAGE. I HAVE USED THE WALK AROUND BY GOING TO TOOLS, MANAGE ADD-ONS AND DISABLING THE WGA. IT WORKS, BUT AS A PERSON WHO LIKES TO DO THINGS CORRECTLY , IS MICROSOFT COMING OUT WITH A FIX FOR THIS FRUSTRATING ISSUE..
I HAVE A VALID COPY OF WINDOWS XP PRO. WHEN I GO TO WINDOWS UPDATES IT VALIDATES THEN I RECEIVE A MESSAGE THAT YOU HAVE AN INVALID PRODUCT ID. I READ IN A NEWS GROUP THAT IT WAS A BUG. I RECEIVED THIS QUOTE FROM A NEWGROUP POSTING. The result of a bug in WinXP SP2's code that creates the PID for display. WGA extracts the correct PID. The one displayed in System Properties General tab will have the OEM-00 issue because of the bug.
I need to find the product key for my Win98 that was originally installed on my system. It nows has the Win XP upgrade installed, several years ago. I can get the product key for the winXP no problem but cant get the 98!I did use the Belarc advisor but it only shows the XP stuff!
I have a computer that I need to wipe the hard drive and perform a fresh install on.I'ts a windows xp pro os that is pre windows service pack 2 and I don't want to spend the next twenty years downloading all those windows critical updates again. So my question is: Is there a way to legally copy all those update files on a cd or is there a way to make things easier for me by getting them by some other method?
i have 2 western digital 80gb on raid0. on this array i have installed windows 7 and now i want to install windows xp on another partition.the problem is that windows xp setup won't recognize my array even with the original raid driver floppy-disk. i created even an nLite customized xp with those drivers installed and it doesn't work.
The requirements at UNC greensboro states that all students must use Micrsoft xp proffessional, 2000, or media center. So i went to stales this am to get the upgrade from xp home to pro and it was $199.00 (Just what I needed more expenses ). At checkout a manager asked me if it was for me and I said no my daughter`s laptop as UNCG requires he to havre the upgrade or they won`y let her connect when she gets there. She very quickly told me that schools can suggest but not reqire as it is against the law to require. She also told me that if they require it that they must reimburse me for the upgrade.
I'm struggeling to get an new "my own" version of XP installed to my old working laptop. My old working had anther XP installed, but I tried to remove it before installing my own. The problem is; while installing it comes with an error saying that the my version doesn't fit to the original version...how do I clean the laptop fully? I'm using a tool called fdisk, aefdisk, but probably not correct
I have XP with service pack 2 already installed. I tried installing sp3, following all the guidelines about being an administrator, closing all programs, disabling virus scanners and such, but consistently get this "internal error" as soon as the installation starts. The event viewer doesn't say anything useful, but according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949384/ this is a problem with a funky product id.
The solution says I should go to the System Properties to get the product id. Well an abstraction of that product id is 69831-xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxx. Then it tells me to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMWPAKey-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, and work with the fields in there. It predicts that there might be more than one key conforming to that format, and there is. It says I should pick the key that has the same ProductID as found in the System Properties, but they both have the same id and it isn't what I found in System Properties, it's 55285-xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxx.I have one product id in System Properties, and another that appears in two keys in the registry.

My son moved out of town and now wants his copy of Windows XP Pro that he left behind. I have two copies that are idententical except for the product keys. Is there somewhere in Windows that would tell me which copy to send and which to keep? will he be able to reuse this disk to put on a new HD in a new computer? Can he put his old HD in a new computer?
there is a GENUINE XP PROFESSIONAL CD with it's case. But neither the case nor the CD has the product key on it. So I am not able to install it on my new HD. Is there any way to install this XP PROFESSIONAL without the product key or get the product key somehow?
I am currently working on a computer for a friend. It's a Lenovo desktop. 3000 series I believe. There is supposed to be a recovery partition on this machine but it is screwed and I do not have the recovery CDs. Getting them from Lenovo seems to be out of the question as they said they would only send them to me if the computer was still under warranty.I am trying to reinstall XP Pro. I have a valid OEM product key on the side of the machine. I figured it was OEM because the key would not work with any ordinary XP Pro CD.Does anyone know of a way to reinstall XP Pro on this machine using the CD key on the side without the recovery CD?
Long story short, I replaced my friend's motherboard in her eMachines computer. I've been told that we'd need a new copy of XP because the new MoBo won't be compatible. The copy we got ended up being the upgrade version. Is it possible to run the upgrade and replace the original XP with this new one?
I have a Dell Dimension Desktop that became infected with a pretty nasty virus. I have had to remove the infected HD from the machine. Instead of trashing the machine, I would like to just purchase an entirely new HD for this machine. I am guessing that when purchasing a new HD that it does NOT already come with an O/S already installed. If this guess is correct, my question is this:Can I use the original O/S Reinstallation CD that came with the machine to get the O/S installed on the new HD? ORDo I have to purchase the O/S along with the new internal HD? If more information is needed before an answer can be provided, please let me know what is needed.
i have a little problem with win XP PRO i think, i have a compaq deskpro EN series PC and iv purchased a new memory module (256 MB SDRAM, 168PIN , non-ECC, cl=3) iv tried to upgrade my PC with this memory module and it eccepts it (bringing my total memory to 448 of a possible 768MB) but then it wont let windows load, stating (withan error screen, just before windows boots) that "system32DRIVERSpci.sys is missing or corrutp, play your original mindows CD and press "r" on the first screen to repair this problem" (to the best of my memory)
I plan on restoring my HP a330n. The last time I restored I had driver problems with my sound card, and LAN. Is their anyway I can save the driver to disk and apply when restore is complete? Also I DO NOT have my original restore disk, but I have the option to just use the in-system restore option, or create disk. Should I create or does it not matter? Also how can I restore the system completely, the last time i did "Complete Restore" there were still unwanted files in the PC.
From searching and reading past posts I've come to the following conclusion and would like someone to verify please... The best way to transfer all pertinent data to a new pc (both with Windows XP home version) is toLoad all programs in with original software CD's then,Use the "File Transfer Wizard" found in the help/support section to transfer all the files and folders. Correct? I assume I can use a crossover usb cable with the "Wizard" Is there a way to get to the File Transfer Wizard without
So installed WinXP Pro on my 3 month old HP pavillion personal computer and I am having an issue with the ram Apparently windows is only recognizing half of it.Here are some of the most pertinent details: AMD Turion64 ML-34,Radeon Xpress 200m w/128 MB on the video card. There are 512 MB installed DDR, Dual Channel. The bios is recognizing all 512 of the ram, but windows properties only shows 256.dxdiag also shows 256, but CPU-Z shows all 512.Does anyone have any idea whats going on? Has anyone actually experienced this phenomenon? I don't know if this is just a reading error, causing no performance difference, but I think I can feel the difference, but since its pretty new and the operating system has only been installed for about 2 weeks, I haven't gotten to get a good feel of what its supposed to be. I have also noticed in the past couple days that it takes a very long time to boot.

I turned on my laptop and got the following message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair." My problem is that I'm unable to location the original Setup CD-ROM. Can this CD be ordered from the manufacturer? Also, whenever this Setup CD is required to repair, will My Documents be effected?
I just logged into this forum...I was working on saving a template that I could use to start a website...but, by mistake when I went to save the image, it saved the image as my wallpaper on the desktop. My question is how do I restore the desktop to the factory Microsoft wallpaper?

I want to do a re-load of Windows XP Home Edition but I wasn't supplied with a CD when purchasing the laptop. I presume the files are pre-installed. I don't want to carry out a restore, but to re-load windows as I used to be able to do with W2K.
