Change Product Key-Original Legal Key But Pirate Cd?

May 4, 2010

I'm having trouble changing my product key. when I upgraded from 98 to XP pro,it was with a pirate copy of XPpro CD. However, I very soon saw the error of my ways and legalised my software online by purchasing a licence with which came a new product key. This was all done online and automatically. Now, here's the thing. Due to an old and failing C drive, I have installed a new hard drive with the intention of transfering all of my files over to it before the old one gives up completely and I lose everything.

The problem is, although my existing OS and product key are completely legal, the only system CD I have is my old pirate one which will not load using the legal key.I have loaded it using the old key with the intention of changing it afterwards but, having followed the process to change it, when I run Jelly Bean Keyfinder, it shows the old key.I have also tried a microsoft windows verification and it confirms that it is not a legal licence. The process I used to change the key was: Change the OOBE Timer number in regedit, Run c:windowssystem32oobemsoobe.exe /a and run change product key, reboot and run c:windowssystem32oobemsoobe.exe /a again which tells me that windows is already activated.

Win Install Using Other (legal) CD Product Key?

Jan 29, 2009

Getting right to it I have a Dell Dimension 4300 that I am fixing up for my daughter adding memory and a larger hard drive. It has Win Xp home installed on it and I have gotten the CD Key # off of it using an extractor. Now my question is because I do not have the upgrade CD (which came with it) for reinstalling it can I use my other (legal) XP upgrade cd to reistall it, using the Key # retrieved from the Dell to verify it with MS for upgrades/downloads, etc. or will I have to use the CD key # which came with my disc.

Change From Illegal To Legal License Without Reinstalling

Aug 4, 2005

I found a computer here that has an "illegal" copy of XP on it.

I bought an OEM copy of XP with RAM to put in this said machine.

Is there anyway I can just enter the information from the outside of the cd into XP somewhere so I wouldn't have to reinstall and keep this CD with the computer at this point then?

Change Product Key On OEM Winmachine?

Jul 18, 2005

I have been reading alot about changin WinXP product key but have had problems with OEM machines. The best way to do it is as followed. Make a search in Windows/System32 folder for WPA. You should come up with a few files. Now you want to cut/paste the next two files to a new folder: wpa.dbl wpabaln.exe
Once these files have been removed from the system32 folder you want to activate your copy by doing the following. Click on Start then Run and enter the following line: %systemroot%system32oobemsoobe.exe /a Then click on Activate by phone and hit the Change Product Key. You should now be able to change an OEM Product Key to another one.

Can't Change Computer Type Back To Original Type In Device Manager

Jun 28, 2007

so, a few years back i read a magazine that said to change the type of computer in device manager to standard pc because it made the computer run a little better or faster.so now i've got my laptop and i've noticed it getting slower and thought that i would do this... VERY BAD MOVE! i can still boot windows and everything - it meant that i had to let the computer reinstall all of the drivers for my hardware - but i have noticed in the device manager now that there are two instances of 'standard pc', there is also a new section titled 'other devices' with about 15 devices that seem to have no driver for them - some mention 'ISA' so i am guessing that changing to standard pc means that windows thinks my laptop is now a desktop pc with ISA slots? i find that when i put my laptop lid down the thing shuts down, when i press the power button it turns off straight away (doesn't even shut down!). i had had the laptop configured for ages to do nothing when i closed the lid and give me shut down options when i pressed the power button. i look in power options and i can only cinfigure the monitor screen and hard disk power off options - every other option is not available. when i do bring up the shut down options i can no longer choose standby.

i have also realised that i can not turn on my wireless connection - i've tried all sorts to get it to work with no avail! the laptop is an acer ferrari and when i call up the manager app it says that bluetooth and wireless are not present (by the way i can still get the bluetooth button to work - correction - it starts up with the button on but if i turn it off it won't let me turn it on again). the emanager and presentation manager buttons on the laptops casing don't work either (i have to access them via software route).

Remove Illegal Copy Of And Use Older Legal

Jan 27, 2009

I have a computer that was given to me to use as a backup. It has two small HDs: C is about 6 Gb and D is about 9 Gb. Win XP Pro is on drive C. It is set up as NTFS. The processor is about 1.5. I do not have the CD and, thus, do not want an illegal copy of XP on this computer. I have legal copies of 95, 98SE and an ME upgrade. I would like to reformat the HD to Fat32 and put on one of these older OS. However, when I try to FDISK it will not allow me to reformat the disk, apparently because it is NTFS. It has only the one partition.

Install Of Brand New Hard Drive And New, Legal Copy Of Pro Goes Nowhere

Sep 28, 2008

Have attempted to install a brand new & legal copy of XP Pro as well as the pc's (Compaq Evo N620C) original restore disk (W2000) on a brand new Seagate 60GB ATA hard drive and I get one of two responses along with a failed installation.I do have an old copy of Windows 98se that appears to be recognized by the pc and probably could be installed, but I would rather not. I started it up just enough to determine whether or not the pc and hdd would recognize the program, and it did....can anyone suggest what I am dealing with here and what can be done to get one of thes programs up and running, preferably the XP?

OEM CD Key / Re-install Without Original OEM CD?

Getting them from Lenovo seems to be out of the question as they said they would only send them to me if the computer was still under warranty.I am trying to reinstall XP Pro. I have a valid OEM product key on the side of the machine. I figured it was OEM because the key would not work with any ordinary XP Pro CD.Does anyone know of a way to reinstall XP Pro on this machine using the CD key on the side without the recovery CD?
