Client Unable To Connect To Web Through ICS Host
Jun 29, 2008My host PC (my desktop) is running an ASUS P5PE-VM with 1gig DDR PC3200 Crucial RAM, has a Intel DualCore E2180 @ 2GHZ. I use a dial-up connection, and even though it is dial-up, my connection speed averages from 52Kbps to 54.3Kbps. So its actually pretty good for dial-up. My OS is Win XP wit SP2. I think that pretty much covers the important basics. My client PC (my laptop) is an ACER Aspire 3100 w/ 512MB DDR2 It has an AMD Sempron 3200 @ 1.6GHZ w/512KB of L2 Cache. It also has an 802.11 b/g wireless Lan. I installed a wireless card (Belkin Wireless G desktop card) in my desktop (host) and set up an ad-hoc network between the two. Basically I set up a wireless network without a router. I've done this before and had no problem, however this time I cannot connect to the internet using the client (my laptop). Everything appears to be in order, ICS is enabled on the host, Firewall in configured, communication between the two is there, I verified by pinging both IP's using ipconfig. The host is able to connect to the internet and browse with out no problem. its just the client I am haveing trouble with. Could it be a DNS problem? When I open IE on the client it just displays the 'cannot display web page', I even tried pinging the web page and am successful in that, it just wont display the web page. Am I missing something?

Jul 17, 2005I was trying to connect to another computer using remote assistance. I have XP prof. and the other computer has XP home. We were getting a message about not being able to resolve host name. After disabling firewalls and setting up port triggering for 3389 we cannot get past trying to connect. It just hangs there and goes nowhere. The other computer has XP home and is asking for assistance from a XP prof compter behind a router but has port triggering enabled for port 3389 even though it not needed.

May 13, 2007i really dont know what went wrong. i have my nod32 always on.. but still seems like some bug has entered my pc.everything was ok. but i thought about scanning pc using spybot.it found some problems. and i deleted files using spybot.every time that error will come and my internet wont work after that. i cannot even open network connection after that error. all that i can do is restart the pc. but error became very very frequent.so, i used recovery tool for spybot and recovered all deleted files but it error still remained.so, i decided to reinstall windows. just reformatted my C drive and the error still remains.

Dec 6, 2005I've got a machine (with an AMD 1+ Gb CPU, 512Mb RAM etc running Win XP Pro & Linspire 5.0 Linux OS) with two separate and independently booted hard drives. Drive 1 (normally 'C') is 40Gb., Drive 2(designated 'F' by Windows) is 80Gb.I originally had Win XP running on a single HDD (C). A second HDD was installed (F - automatically designated by XP). Windows XP was reinstalled on this new (80Gb)HDD and all the data from the original HDD was transferred to the new one, everything worked fine, with XP now booting on the new (F) drive.

Okay so, i've been trying all night to install SP3 on this thing but every time I get this error "An Internal Error Occurred" and it's driving me crazy. I installed a fresh Windows XP SP2 on it and uninstalled the few updates I did through windows updates. I've cleaned the registry. I've done everything it says to do here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949384. I've tried installing it from the Windows updates page, i've tried installing it through Automatic updates and i've even downloaded the full SP3 Package (also tried this in safe-mode). I've read every freaking forum about this error and took their advice. Nothing works........
Installing Sp2 - Internal Error Occurred
May 18, 2008I recently did a system repair after having problems with Windows starting up, and I need to re-install sp2 for programs such as iTunes to work. When I try running the update wizard, it gets to the 'collecting inventory' (I think that's what it's called) stage, and then stops with an "An Internal Error Occured" message. Oct 19, 2007I have recently had to reinstall my PC from scratch. I bought a new WD Raptor 150GB as my main hard disk, my old 320GB Hard Disk that I used for my old install has been plugged into the second SATA port, and I have a 500GB Western Digital MyBook for extra storage and backup.Recently the new setup has been acting up worse than the old setup. These problems aren't regular but they occur in clumps -for example I would have to restart the system at least 4 times before I get a stable platformproblem includes the error message of General Host Services Has encountered an error etc along with the option to send an error report.
Sometimes its different programs that crash, including NOD 32, Media Center Receiver Service, CLI (which I think is something to do with my sound card) and other random programs including HMI, SVCHOST. When one or all of these programs crash one after the other, the entire system slows down and becomes practically inoperable. Invoking task manager doesn't help either as it takes a good 10 minutes to appear.

I have re-installed it several times to see if that was the issue. Every time I start the computer everything works fast until it gets to the Windows splash logo loading screen. It sits there for about 45 to 50 seconds every time. I have done some research and one forum said that this may happen because of a missing file or corrupted file in windows and for me to check my Device Manager. I went through all those steps and everything seems to be ok. I have reinstalled many times and it still does

Sep 1, 2010I have XP with service pack 2 already installed. I tried installing sp3, following all the guidelines about being an administrator, closing all programs, disabling virus scanners and such, but consistently get this "internal error" as soon as the installation starts. The event viewer doesn't say anything useful, but according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949384/ this is a problem with a funky product id.
The solution says I should go to the System Properties to get the product id. Well an abstraction of that product id is 69831-xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxx. Then it tells me to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMWPAKey-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, and work with the fields in there. It predicts that there might be more than one key conforming to that format, and there is. It says I should pick the key that has the same ProductID as found in the System Properties, but they both have the same id and it isn't what I found in System Properties, it's 55285-xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxx.I have one product id in System Properties, and another that appears in two keys in the registry.
