I was trying to connect to another computer using remote assistance. I have XP prof. and the other computer has XP home. We were getting a message about not being able to resolve host name. After disabling firewalls and setting up port triggering for 3389 we cannot get past trying to connect. It just hangs there and goes nowhere. The other computer has XP home and is asking for assistance from a XP prof compter behind a router but has port triggering enabled for port 3389 even though it not needed.
when i accept an invitation it says connecting then i get a message "Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the remote host name could not be resolved. Please try again." how do i resolve this
I have moved a long distance away and am trying to get remote assistance working. I have xp prof. and he has xp home. We are trying to connect through windows messenger. We both wm 5.1. We both have windows firewall on but allow exceptions. Windows messenger is checked in exceptions. We both are on Verizon DSL I have a linksys router and he has Verizon modem/router combo. We both get a messge that states that "cannot resolve host name" I cannot find anything about the message in microsofts knowlege base.
while i was type 'msra' in run inorder to start remote assistance after turn off Firewall and enable Remote Assistance. Then shows an error mesage "Windows cannot find msra.Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again......"
I am new at trying to use Remote Assistance. When I try to send an invitation to start a RA session, I get a dialogue box that says "A program could not start. Please try again". Anybody got any idea what program it is talking about? When I go into the "Advanced System Information" and then choose "View the error log", it tells me that the WmiAdapter "Open of service failed".In the Control Panel,Administrative Tools, Services page the services Windows Management Instrumentation is set to Auto, and the WMI Performance Adapter is set to Manual.
My question concerns Remote Assistance (RA) vs. Remote Desktop (RD) to XP Pro desktops. Providing tech support, I am trying to see if anyone knows how to setup RD session I initiate to a Windows XP Pro OS to "share" sessions with the end user, other than via RA.
When my Mom proffers an invitation for remote assisance using MSN Messenger 7.0 she recieves the following: "Remote Assistance cannot connect because <user> denied the request for help". I've looked at some of the other, similar, threads posted on connectivity issues with 7.0 in these forums, but nothing seems to help. We can send and recieve each others video and audio. Also, the games work. I've tried to do this with a couple of other freinds with the same result. Before we were forced into the 7.0 upgrade there were no problems. I've checked my settings to allow RA, reinstalled 7.0, tried using Windows Messenger, and have tried doing this with my firewall (ZoneAlarm) disabled.
Tying to access each others computer using Remote Assistance through window messenger .When I invited her, she was able to accept and see my computer. We would log out and then she would invite me I would accept but I was unable to log into her computer. It would not connect. We turned off the firewall that did not work. Turned off the virus protection that didn't work. Check for file sharing in the firewall all was checked. she can connect to me. But I can't to her. Is there something else I need her to look for that is stopping me from connecting.
I wanted to change some settings for remote assistance and all I get is what is in the first attached thumbnail. I think windowsXP is supposed to have what is in the second attached thumbnail. Any idea why mine does not show all this?
Does anybody know how to set up remote assistance to another computer and don't have to ask everytime we need to use it. I'm trying to work remotly to fix my aunt's PC but she is having a hard time setting this up.
I am trying to conned to a novice computer. Both of us are using Win XP Home. I am on Road Runner cable and the novice is on Comcast. He does not have a firewall other than the built-in one and we have tried it with this disabled. He does NOT have a router or wireless system. He only has the cable modem going to his computer. I am behind a router and have windows firewall disabled. From what I have read it should make no difference that I, as the one responding to the email invitation, am behind a router. What are the possible causes and solutions for this common error about "host name not resolved" when the inviter (novice) is NOT behind a router?
Problem with remote desktop connection from one PC at one country to another PC at another country. I cannot make remote assistance work either. I asked remote assistance from a friend who is abroad. Both of us have Win XP Pro.
When I click om remote assistance it shuts down just the program not the computer, also when someone send me an invitation I accept and it seems like its going into it but shuts down. And about remote desktop I go into system then remote but theres no options for remote dektop just remote assistance what should I do
Is there anyway I can dial into a friends computer from mine? We both have Windows XP and she is having a simple computer error that I KNOW I can fix if I had access to her computer. She lives too far away for me to go to her computer, and I do not want her to be ripped off by calling a repair shop. But she cannot grasp the steps I am giving her to fix it.
A while back I needed remote assistance from a tech person He fixed my problem but what I need to know is can he still get on my PC(WXP Home) whenever it suits him.How can I tell if he vists ?He setup my web page remotely as well and I saw he updated a part yesterday I am very concerned regarding my other private stuff , emails, etc
When I open remote assistance I recieve a message saying that my current settings prevent me from sending an invitation. What do I need to change to make this work?

Though it appears that i cant connect to his computer to retrieve some of the files that are mine on his computer. See he saved some stuff on his, i have a laptop he has a desktop.

I am having trouble with connecting to Windows XP Pro SP3 host using Remote Desktop. I can connect out on this machine to others, all services and dependencies appear to be running, but host will not connect.
My mom has an IBM PC which recently had to have the HD replaced. When we got it back we had a brand new HD with a new install of XP Professional with SP 2 (old HD had XP Home edition only). The computer connects to the internet via a dial up link only. The computer works fine except that I notice after we have been on line for a time e.g. > 1hr or so, all of a sudden with no warning we seem to loose ability to resolve URL names when trying to connect to websites. In Firefox we get the message in the bottom of the Firefox display ''looking up www.abcde.com'' and then after a while the message that the web site can't be found. IE has a similar issue and appears unable to resolve the URLs to IP addresses and trying to ping a URL (e.g. ping www.yahoo.com) produces an error message indicating the address can't be found. I checked the IP config info and when this problem occurrs I find I am still able to ping the DNS server's IP address without a problem from the computer (so the basic connectivity appears to be still there), yet I'll still get the message in browser in the end indicating name resolution failed. When I check the stats on the connection properties while I am trying to connect to a web site the bytes sent/recieved counters do increment indicating something is going back and forth between the computer and the ISP and no excessive amounts of errors are reported. Sometimes the problem occurs after an hour or so of surfing, other times we'll be connected and surfing without a problem, but we logoff for a while leaving the computer running and then come back, logon and find this name resolution problem has cropped up again and it's impossible to resolve URLs again until a reboot. The only fix is a reboot. Logging off and logging on and/or disconneting/reconnecting the dial up link has no effect unless a reboot is performed first. Once we reboot, we can connect and surf again with no problem. On the computer we have one account set up with admin privelidges and 2 user accounts. The problem occurs on all 3 accounts and once the problem starts occurring changing accounts doesn't make a difference (without a reboot). I checked the system log for error messages while this problem was occuring and nothing showed up in the system log. I would appreciate any suggestions as to where I should look next. This problem only occurred after we got the computer back with the new hard drive and new OS installed, prior to that the problem never occurred on the old hard drive with XP Home edition. I was thinking of looking for a sniffer freeware/shareware program to see if we could determine what exactly was going out over the wire and coming back when this problem starts to occur, but since we only have dial up access downloading software is a pain.
i recently had windows xp media center edition on my dell inspiron 6000 laptop. Since i had many viruses i rebooted it with windows xp home edition. now when i try to connect to the internet using the wireless client like i used to, it doesnt let me. it isnt an option in the network connections. can someone help me because i need my internet running asap.
my pc is turning off after about 20 minutes usage of anything on the pc itself but will run any thing off the net all day n all night with no probs , does that make sense sorry if you don't understand what i'm tryin 2 say.
I found my motherboard had blown so I purchased a new computer. This one has SATA drives rather than the IDE like my earlier one.I wanted to get some files off the old hard drives so purchased an Adaptec USB 2 Hard Drive Enclosure. It was recognized via plug and play (no drivers for the enclosure needed) and I was able to get some files off. However the next day when I tried to access the drive, it didn't show in Windows Explorer.I removed it from USB plug and tried the USB port next to the one I had previously tried. It recognized the drive and I was able to get more files.
However the same thing happened after I turned it off and rebooted the next day.I was unable to get it to work in either one of the front ports.I then tried one of the back ports, everything worked as before. Again, though, after turning it off, I am unable to access it through any of the 3 ports I've previously tried! What is going on? I still have stuff to get off it and I'm running out of ports.
I have an issue where if any user sends an invitation via Outlook to the administrator for Remote Assistance and the Administrator opens the attachment in the received message to Remotely Assist I get the following error message displayed: Logon Message "You do not have access to logon to this session" If I remotely connect using RDP to the same desktop it works fine.I have enabled Remote Assistance, been through various GPO settings and nothing seems to fix this issue.
I have 2 machines behind a Netgear router. The XP Home one can ask for remote assistance. The XP Pro one cannot. When the invite a friend to offer remote assistance link is clicked, the message "A program could not start. Please try again" appears. It comes up with the exclamation sound and the message box claims to be from Internet Explorer.I found a file called constants.js on the machine that had that message text in it...in two places. One of them is NO CHANNEL,and the other is NO Recession I edited the constants.js file and it changed the "A program could not start. Please try again" message so that I could tell that the NO CHANNEL message is being sent to me.
I am a tech in a service department for a company. We have used Remote Assistance successfully to assist our customers to fix problems from our desks We've found it somewhat problamatic trying to navigate our customers through the request assistance dialog so we can see what they see or take control so we can do something much faster than it would take for them to do by instruction. Is there a way to initiate Remote Assistance w/o the customer having to request or invite you?
My host PC (my desktop) is running an ASUS P5PE-VM with 1gig DDR PC3200 Crucial RAM, has a Intel DualCore E2180 @ 2GHZ. I use a dial-up connection, and even though it is dial-up, my connection speed averages from 52Kbps to 54.3Kbps. So its actually pretty good for dial-up. My OS is Win XP wit SP2. I think that pretty much covers the important basics. My client PC (my laptop) is an ACER Aspire 3100 w/ 512MB DDR2 It has an AMD Sempron 3200 @ 1.6GHZ w/512KB of L2 Cache. It also has an 802.11 b/g wireless Lan. I installed a wireless card (Belkin Wireless G desktop card) in my desktop (host) and set up an ad-hoc network between the two. Basically I set up a wireless network without a router. I've done this before and had no problem, however this time I cannot connect to the internet using the client (my laptop). Everything appears to be in order, ICS is enabled on the host, Firewall in configured, communication between the two is there, I verified by pinging both IP's using ipconfig. The host is able to connect to the internet and browse with out no problem. its just the client I am haveing trouble with. Could it be a DNS problem? When I open IE on the client it just displays the 'cannot display web page', I even tried pinging the web page and am successful in that, it just wont display the web page. Am I missing something?
