Using Remote Assistance To Dial Other Computer From Mine?
May 31, 2007
Is there anyway I can dial into a friends computer from mine? We both have Windows XP and she is having a simple computer error that I KNOW I can fix if I had access to her computer. She lives too far away for me to go to her computer, and I do not want her to be ripped off by calling a repair shop. But she cannot grasp the steps I am giving her to fix it.
Tying to access each others computer using Remote Assistance through window messenger .When I invited her, she was able to accept and see my computer. We would log out and then she would invite me I would accept but I was unable to log into her computer. It would not connect. We turned off the firewall that did not work. Turned off the virus protection that didn't work. Check for file sharing in the firewall all was checked. she can connect to me. But I can't to her. Is there something else I need her to look for that is stopping me from connecting.
Does anybody know how to set up remote assistance to another computer and don't have to ask everytime we need to use it. I'm trying to work remotly to fix my aunt's PC but she is having a hard time setting this up.
A while back I needed remote assistance from a tech person He fixed my problem but what I need to know is can he still get on my PC(WXP Home) whenever it suits him.How can I tell if he vists ?He setup my web page remotely as well and I saw he updated a part yesterday I am very concerned regarding my other private stuff , emails, etc
My computer is networked to my boyfriends computer at home. He's the administrator and im guessing can browse my computer remotely. Though it appears that i cant connect to his computer to retrieve some of the files that are mine on his computer. See he saved some stuff on his, i have a laptop he has a desktop.
My question concerns Remote Assistance (RA) vs. Remote Desktop (RD) to XP Pro desktops. Providing tech support, I am trying to see if anyone knows how to setup RD session I initiate to a Windows XP Pro OS to "share" sessions with the end user, other than via RA.
When my Mom proffers an invitation for remote assisance using MSN Messenger 7.0 she recieves the following: "Remote Assistance cannot connect because <user> denied the request for help". I've looked at some of the other, similar, threads posted on connectivity issues with 7.0 in these forums, but nothing seems to help. We can send and recieve each others video and audio. Also, the games work. I've tried to do this with a couple of other freinds with the same result. Before we were forced into the 7.0 upgrade there were no problems. I've checked my settings to allow RA, reinstalled 7.0, tried using Windows Messenger, and have tried doing this with my firewall (ZoneAlarm) disabled.
I wanted to change some settings for remote assistance and all I get is what is in the first attached thumbnail. I think windowsXP is supposed to have what is in the second attached thumbnail. Any idea why mine does not show all this?
I am trying to conned to a novice computer. Both of us are using Win XP Home. I am on Road Runner cable and the novice is on Comcast. He does not have a firewall other than the built-in one and we have tried it with this disabled. He does NOT have a router or wireless system. He only has the cable modem going to his computer. I am behind a router and have windows firewall disabled. From what I have read it should make no difference that I, as the one responding to the email invitation, am behind a router. What are the possible causes and solutions for this common error about "host name not resolved" when the inviter (novice) is NOT behind a router?
Problem with remote desktop connection from one PC at one country to another PC at another country. I cannot make remote assistance work either. I asked remote assistance from a friend who is abroad. Both of us have Win XP Pro.
When I click om remote assistance it shuts down just the program not the computer, also when someone send me an invitation I accept and it seems like its going into it but shuts down. And about remote desktop I go into system then remote but theres no options for remote dektop just remote assistance what should I do
I was trying to connect to another computer using remote assistance. I have XP prof. and the other computer has XP home. We were getting a message about not being able to resolve host name. After disabling firewalls and setting up port triggering for 3389 we cannot get past trying to connect. It just hangs there and goes nowhere. The other computer has XP home and is asking for assistance from a XP prof compter behind a router but has port triggering enabled for port 3389 even though it not needed.
when i accept an invitation it says connecting then i get a message "Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the remote host name could not be resolved. Please try again." how do i resolve this

I am new at trying to use Remote Assistance. When I try to send an invitation to start a RA session, I get a dialogue box that says "A program could not start. Please try again". Anybody got any idea what program it is talking about? When I go into the "Advanced System Information" and then choose "View the error log", it tells me that the WmiAdapter "Open of service failed".In the Control Panel,Administrative Tools, Services page the services Windows Management Instrumentation is set to Auto, and the WMI Performance Adapter is set to Manual.
When I open remote assistance I recieve a message saying that my current settings prevent me from sending an invitation. What do I need to change to make this work?
I'm trying to set up a remote connection so I can control and troubleshoot my other computer from my house, we both use dial up and windows xp is this feasible? What is the program that I want to look at? I've searched around but there isn't much mention of dialup anymore these days and we both cannot get any type of broadband
I have an issue where if any user sends an invitation via Outlook to the administrator for Remote Assistance and the Administrator opens the attachment in the received message to Remotely Assist I get the following error message displayed: Logon Message "You do not have access to logon to this session" If I remotely connect using RDP to the same desktop it works fine.I have enabled Remote Assistance, been through various GPO settings and nothing seems to fix this issue.
I have 2 machines behind a Netgear router. The XP Home one can ask for remote assistance. The XP Pro one cannot. When the invite a friend to offer remote assistance link is clicked, the message "A program could not start. Please try again" appears. It comes up with the exclamation sound and the message box claims to be from Internet Explorer.I found a file called constants.js on the machine that had that message text in it...in two places. One of them is NO CHANNEL,and the other is NO Recession I edited the constants.js file and it changed the "A program could not start. Please try again" message so that I could tell that the NO CHANNEL message is being sent to me.
I have moved a long distance away and am trying to get remote assistance working. I have xp prof. and he has xp home. We are trying to connect through windows messenger. We both wm 5.1. We both have windows firewall on but allow exceptions. Windows messenger is checked in exceptions. We both are on Verizon DSL I have a linksys router and he has Verizon modem/router combo. We both get a messge that states that "cannot resolve host name" I cannot find anything about the message in microsofts knowlege base.
I am a tech in a service department for a company. We have used Remote Assistance successfully to assist our customers to fix problems from our desks We've found it somewhat problamatic trying to navigate our customers through the request assistance dialog so we can see what they see or take control so we can do something much faster than it would take for them to do by instruction. Is there a way to initiate Remote Assistance w/o the customer having to request or invite you?
I want to use Remote Desktop Sharing in NetMeeting to connect to a remote PC to download files or fix problems on it. I tried to call the remote PC using its IP address but it only allow me to access the netmeeting features like video conferencing.
I own a copy of Windows XP SP1 but I want to download and use a customized and slimmed down version. 99% of those you can download will not validate with Windows Genuine Advantage checking so I would like to change the key on one downloaded and use my own legit key. No I don't want to spend the hours to create my own. I can have a real XP copy thats been slimmed for performance by someone who's sharing it with me - I wont get into how or where for reasons I'm sure are obvious.I have that key and an OEM WinXP Home version but that has no key I dont think and I'd have to extract it and work on it - not ready for all that fuss.Guess the question is: Anyone know where I can get the tools to change my Windows OS key out and slipstream mine in? Would Nlite do all of this?I'll keep searching and thank you for any replies.
At present I connect to my broadband ISP using a wireless router. So that I can keep a previous email address active I need to log on to an old Pay As You Go dial up connection at least once every 60 days . I have set up the the connection in 'Network connection' in the control panel but get the error " no dial tone " when i try to use it, Should i be disconnecting the router and plugging in the phone cable to the PC directly as we did in pre broadband, dial up only days . Advise please on how to best ' cable ' the set up
The title says it all! Basically I have a comp running XP pro and I want to be able to work locally on one user account, with some kind of remote access server running on another XP user account so that the remote account and the local account can be used simultaniously. I know that this cannot be done with XP Pro remote desktop and could be by Windows Server 2003 remote desktop, but i need an alternate solution to make this happen.
I had dial up 4 years, I finally got DSL a month agao, now instead of my computer running faster , it is running slower than dial up! I also get a message after I shut down a window, ( memory could not be read error ) sorry I forget the numbers but will copy them down when i log off. I have Windows XP Home Edition.
Just tried remote access to another PC, first with UltraVNC and then with Windows Remote and I could not take control of my friends PC but he could take control of mine.Checked Firewalls....we both run XP both have Avast AV and he doesn't have any programs that I think would be blocking it.
I'm looking in using either using Remote Assitance and/or Desktop in a help desk support environment. For example, if a user calls in asking for assistance with a application, or if we are in need of troubleshooting the machine, we would like to initate a remote assistance request that takes the end user out of the equation so we don't need to walk them through how to send a email/file request.
