Suspend To Disk Query - Sefe Rebooting

Dec 7, 2005

I recently was given a Dell laptop by my brother. It was (key word) working fine for him. He installed an additional memory chip, started the laptop to check it out. Shut it down, put it in the box and shipped it to me. When I try to boot up, it says that it failed and the "suspend to disk" screen comes up. I can't get it to boot in any mode (safe, normal, last previous working, etc)

Increse Size Of Suspend Partition

Jan 24, 2006

utility supplied by Winbook to create a suspend partition on the hard drive. The utility apparently measures the memory capacity of the machine and creates a partition large enough to store the main and video memory and maybe a few other things. Now that I?ve got windows (2000) and office and all the updates installed, I want to increase physical memory but that?ll result in the suspend partition being too small. Is there a way to increase the size of the suspend partition without starting all over again?I know there is partition manager software out there but I?ve never used any.

Laptop Stopped Being Able To Suspend / Hibernate

May 30, 2006

I recently got a new laptop, a Sony Vaio PCG-K15. I bought it used from a colleague, and the hard drive in it was bad. I sent away for a new hard drive, and it came in, and now everything's up and running just fine. I'm running Windows XP Pro with SP2 and it runs great, but yesterday, the suspend/hibernate features of the laptop just disappeared. They're no longer present in Power Options, and they're no longer present in Start > Turn Off Computer. All I have is Log off, Shut down, or Restart. Can anyone shed any light on to why these options suddenly disappeared.

No Sound Effects For Suspend - Resume

Apr 8, 2008

It's time for another cosmetic XP tweaking question. In the out-of-the-box install, Windows XP on my notebook PC had this nifty feature I loved -- closing the lid to suspend operation, then opening it back up and hitting the power button to resume. It played this two-note piano melody when I did so, and then a more upbeat tune when I clicked on my avatar icon to get back to my desktop.I've since reinstalled XP several times. Right now it does the exact same thing that it used to, but without the cheerful piano sounds. How can I get them to come back? Kind of a silly question, I know, but they really did brighten my day.

It sits there for about 45 to 50 seconds every time. I have done some research and one forum said that this may happen because of a missing file or corrupted file in windows and for me to check my Device Manager. I went through all those steps and everything seems to be ok. I have reinstalled many times and it still does

16 Bit Subsystem Query When Running Older Programs

Jul 9, 2005

When I attempt to run older programs not specifically made for windows XP I have recently started receiving the following error when I try to install:16 bit Windows Subsystem c:WindowsSystem32autoexec.nt. This system file is not suitable for running MS-Dos and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application. Then there are 2 buttons, one says 'close' the other 'ignore'. Both terminate the installation or the running of the program. I don't think it is an issue with the games, as there is at least one I could run before but cannot run now.

Will Not Boot SP2- Just Keeps Rebooting

Feb 6, 2005

I got XP PRO sp2 a few weeks ago and microsoft has downloaded their automatic (hot fix) updates about 20-25 times. The last download failed and the the message read that I would have trouble booting XP because of that failure. Well, they were right because now Xp will not boot up-- it just keeps rebooting.

To try to correct this I have tried to use my XP CD to repair it but it asks for a password from an administrator-- that's not me
I have tried F5 to get into safe mode, safe mode command prompt, last known good configuration..., and debugging mode and nothing works.

PC Keeps Randomly Rebooting

Oct 17, 2007

This has been going on for a couple of months now.The PC would just reboot all of a sudden, usually when we pop in a CD in the drive, or log on to another user account. When we try to turn the PC on, it takes about 5-10 reboots before it goes on to the Windows logo (or whatever you call that). I'm worried that it might be a virus. I tried Trend Micro's Online scan and left it for a while only to find that the PC reboot in the middle of it, and now, I can't get the scanner to work anymore (I keep getting this error message.) Also, to be honest, we usually leave the PC on for days on end, so overheating might not be so out of the question. Aside from overheating, I just wanna know what else we have to troubleshoot for regarding this problem? Is it possible that a virus is causing it? That's all, I just need a troubleshooting checklist.

Will Not Load And Keep Rebooting

May 9, 2005

The problem is it will not boot. It only shows the first screen where it tells you the type of processor and bios chips, it gives the cpu type, then I guess it tests the RAM, the cache sram, then system bios shadowed, then video bios shadowed, then it states the hard drive, then cd drive and the last thing on the screen is " mouse initialized" then it just keeps restarting over and over. If I try to go into safe mode, it does give me all the options, however when I choose safe mode, it just goes into that same screen since it is the begining of the boot and it keeps restarting again. He is running windows xp, I tried to do a repair install but I guess I have a different version of win xp and it doesnt give me the option to repair.

There is nothing muted in the Volume Control applet, the Device Manager shows no conflicts, and onboard sound has been disabled. I'll post an abbreviated DXDIAG (this is with sound operational, if matters.Uninstalling the card, rebooting and, after letting windows detect the new hardware, reinstalling the driver, will correct the problem. Until I reboot again, at which time the computer is again, mute.

Xp Keeps Rebooting Bsod

Jan 28, 2008

last week, my computer froze and my dad unplugged the power cord since he was the one using and now the xp keeps rebooting. it does not matter if i choose, safe mode, last known config, it keeps rebooting. it goes as far as letting you see the xp welcome screen, then for a second, you can see the bsod and it reboots. i have dual boot fedora/xp, both os in one hard drive. i replaced the original mobo about 3 months ago and now fedora does not work either. last night i downloaded pclinuxos live cd and booted off that cd and i can see all my files in the xp partition. so i thought it would be a simple, boot off the xp cd, select install xp, then select repair existing partition, but now after i select "install xp", the c partition shows up empty, as if there were no files in it. this is odd because when i restart, and select to boot windows normally it goes as far as the xp welcome screen, so obviously, xp is there. i also think there is something wrong with the mbr since i cant no longer see the grub dual boot selection screen. any help that you can provide is appreciated. this box is used in a small business and i would like to avoid having to reinstall. my specs, intel p4 2.8 lga 775, 1gb dual ram pc2 4300, intel mobo,

Laptop Keeps Rebooting

I recently aquired a Toshiba M35X-349, I don't know the history of this laptop. I put a hard drive in it and loaded OS system from recover disc. The problem is that after I instaled OS the computer will boot all the way to showing desktop, then it will reboot after about 60 seconds. It does this over and over. I did manage to reflash bios with version 2.0. I can start it up in safe mode with networking and the thing runs fine, no rebooting. Ive tried re-installing recovery disc and tried just installing windows only and get the same results, I even tried another known good hard drive.

System Keeps Rebooting?

My computer keeps rebooting in normal mode, but I can log on in "Safe Mode". Whats weird is that I put a disk in my CD, Windows says device is working properly - but won't read the disk. Same thing happens with the floppy. Usually, when my computer booted before this problem occured, it went though normal boot sequence and I could see the light check for CD, and floppy...now it's not doing it. I can read hard drives in "safe mode", but CD, Floppy, and sound will not work?

Now every time I boot up the black screen wants me to choose 1. Windows ME or 2. Cancel XP Installation.I now have to chose and ME because everytime I try to install XP it won't finish and gives me a variety of error messages including 'No server pk 2'(which I have downloaded again but it was already there). The worst thing is I lost my HP Photo Smart printer connection and I can't uninstall and reinstall because something is corrupt. It won't read downloaded printer drivers and asks me which program to open them. How does a normal person know this? Should I stop messin' around with this and take it to COMP USA?And I lost my system restore dates and can only restore the day all of this happened. I have a Dell 8100 Dimensions PC
