Install Ubuntu - Optical Disk Or Hard Drive Had An Error

I tried to install Ubuntu onto my HD yesterday, and i ran into an issue during the install (i received a message that said the optical disk or hard drive had an error and that the instal would be aborted). So the Ubuntu install was aborted, and i tried to boot back into windows but received this message:

i had Ubuntu (dual boot with XP), and i got both partions on 15GBs each, now that Ubuntu its gone, i thought that my XP would have back the 30GB it used to have but it doesnt, it still says it has the 15GB the partion used to have, and i deleted Ubuntu by using my XP disk and Repaired the computer doing the fixmbr thingy and i thought it was going to make it the way it was before, also, my floppy drive doesnt seem to work, it lights up, when i log in it seems like its trying to scan a floppy or something, and when i try to open up a floppy disk it freezes the window and doesnt let me work or anything.

I am having an issue with a Maxtor Model Number 92739U6 hard drive. I have just finished formatting and installing windows xp home edition. Everything was going ok until I restarted the computer. First right after I restarted the computer I got an error message A Disk Read Error Occurred. Press CTRL+ALT+Del. I was unsure what caused this error message so I started to research this issue on Maxtor?s website and they advised me to use fdisk /mbr to repair the error. I did that and restarted the computer. Same Error?. The thing I can?t figure out is why I am able to boot right to windows using a boot disk.

I recently tried to reinstall windows xp, but the installation was interrupted and left me with a partially installed windows on my hard drive. Now, whenever I try to install again, it gives me the error: NTLDR is missing. I made a msdos boot disc to reformat my drive such that I can try installing windows again. However, I have two hard drive (one for windows and programs and one for storage) and I don't know which one is which letter. How can I find this information, so that I don't accidentally wipe my storage drive?

An external hard drive. When it is on & I try to boot,I get the following error : Invalid system disk Replace the disk, and then press any key I then have to turn off the external & press any key to get it to boot. Is there a way that I can boot with that external turned on. Some setting I need to change perhaps? I have an E-Machines computer about 2 years old.

I am having problmes booting my laptop. Normally for my desktop I'd just pop in the CD and boot from disk, but with this computer it isn't that simple.

i have a Compaq nx 7400 .i was hahving a lot of problems with the computer so i decided to put a new hard drive in and reinstall XP .
well i have the new hard drive in and started up the machine and changed the bott options to run from the dvd and all went fine until i should press the ENTER ( return ) button to install XP now . as soon as i did that the next window said no hard drive found . this was also happening on the old hard drive that was in the machine .

I am cloning my existing hard drive in my laptop (sata) to an external hard drive (pata) in preparation for installing a new larger hard drive (sata)in the laptop. Can I, or how do I transfer the cloned data from the external (pata) to the new internal hard drive (sata)? As I'm sure you know, when you install most games, they create a desktop shortcut. However, these never work on my machine. Clicking them always pops up a message that says that the CD/DVD is not found, and it can't be located no matter how many times you hit "retry." The only way to start a game is to hit eject, then close the tray again. Even this just takes you to the disc's main menu rather than making the short-cut work.Now, I realize that I can just eject/insert the disk, or click the exe on the disk itself to play each time...I'm just curious as to why the game-installed shortcuts never work.

I am facing two problems with my lap top hp campac presario 2100.
1.The loptops battery to be changed. I dont know how many batteries are there. Any cmos battery there like any other pc. Pl advice. What would be the cost. and the model number . The hard disk requires replacement. I want to know the model numberor exact type of hard disk would be fit in. and the cost thereof.3. Windows xp home edition has been preloaded in the laptop. Last week i installed windows XP Pro on my desktop. It has a 250GB hard drive which has 1 partition (C drive only), NTFS offcourse. I did not format it while installing windows as it has lots of stuff in it. There's over 50GB free and i�ve been removing a lot of stuff from the hard drive to make up some space but in windows i get an error message that i don't have enough disk space, the disk cleanup utility runs cant free up space and i can not install or copy anything in the hard drive. I've noticed that when i deleted some file holding (or not) the shift key the free size goes lower although the files are being deleted from the hard disk.

Is it possible to install a 2nd Hard Disk, install XP on that, and then have the 1st Hard Disk boot menu offer the choice of booting its copy of XP, OR the copy on the 2nd Hard Disk?I imagine editing of boot.ini by hand would be necessary.Basically, I want a second Hard Disk for the KID'S setup, but don't want to use the BIOS to switch between the two, just use the boot menu.

am trying to install WIN XP on a wiped hard drive. When installing we get a blue screen with unmountable boot volume. The computer is a dell latitude d630, wiped with bcwipe, using streamlined xp install sp3. This issue has happened on mulitple systems. We have used the install disk in other systems and it works. The only step we have not tried is a putting the hard disk in another system. I wondering if there is anything that could cause this besides a corrupt hard disk.

I disconnected my harddrive from my Dell(DimensionL933r) computer and installed it into my Dell(Optiplex GX1) in an attempt to access the drive(which was not letting me in,Hanging at loading personal settings).I could not get the proper drivers or something so I did not get it installed.When I returned it to the computer it came from, its not coming up as installed. How do I install the hard disk with no windows or recovery console? Or the second question how do I get the hard disk connected to my good computer(Optiplex GX1) so I can fix it? I uninstalled some preloaded Windows programs, I reinstalled some of them, but now my laptop's all funny. When I connect to The Internet, any program that I open freezes for like 10 minutes, after which it unfreezes. During this time I normally restart my computer, with no success. If I open Windows Live Messenger and Internet Explorer 7 together it freezes normally. Pinball, WordPad, Sound Recorder, and Volume Control cannot be restored. Also, I tried using my Toshiba Recovery DVD, with no success. It says Loading RAMDISK Image, then it reboots and loads the exact same system with no changes made.

Yeah I have reformatted my hard drives a few times over the years so I am no stranger to it however I am just curious about something. When I go to reformat with my DELL Windows XP Home Edition CD I will then revert back to SP1. I have SP3 installed onto my computer right now. I also have a SP2 CD I got from Microsoft about 3 years ago or so. Should I first install the SP2 cd or is there no need to do that seeing SP3 should have all of SP2 updates in it?

Wow, this is kind of odd I ran disk cleanup and noticed that the size of the temporary files it wants to delete totals about 56 GBs, which is pretty much everything on my HD.It did this once before, only it just deleted Windows, which is pretty ironic.I've tried running chkdsk with the r parameter, and it found nothing, so I'm not sure exactly what to do with a Windows-specific issue like this, especially seeing as I have no restore points other than the latest one, which was just before I found this all out. Reformatting is NOT an option.

OK,i need some help here,after changing desktop casing,I noticed that my 2nd IDE Hard drive/HD is not on "My Computer",check on the Device manager HD is present and when i tried to see the details of my HD on Disk Management HD is not present,so I've rebooted HD is present in BIOS.Things I did:1.Fix windows using recovery console2.Connect/reconnect cables3.Check if HD is still working(100% sure it's working)4.Updated driversAdditional info's"HD is Seagate Barracuda(Master-Slave set up), OS Windows XP sp3**Please note that i can't see the HD on my disk management like any other people would do to fix this problem***If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know. I'm going to attempt trying the drive on a different IDE hannel, and see if that works.

I want to remove windows xp home off my laptop, I had to install a new hard drive and when I installed windows xp I found out I didn't have the drivers disk so nothing works. I went to Dell site to get drivers and there are hundreds of them, the ones I did download wont work. So I want to reformat my harddrive and go back to ME. but I can't. Here's my problem, for no apparent reason my hard drives are not listed under the disk management utility(cd drives appear). They appear on "my computer" correctly, they show up in "Device Manager"(and I have no yellow question marks).In addition in "disk defragmenter" they appear but I'm unable to even run the analyse command(using other software I'm able to defragment them).I've tried EaseusParttion Manager, but the drives don't appear as well.I'm not able to use USB drives as well(I assume it is related), they appear in the right side of the task bar and they appear in "device manager" but not in "my computer" nor "Disk Management
