Hard Disk Install Or Reinstall

I disconnected my harddrive from my Dell(DimensionL933r) computer and installed it into my Dell(Optiplex GX1) in an attempt to access the drive(which was not letting me in,Hanging at loading personal settings).I could not get the proper drivers or something so I did not get it installed.When I returned it to the computer it came from, its not coming up as installed. How do I install the hard disk with no windows or recovery console? Or the second question how do I get the hard disk connected to my good computer(Optiplex GX1) so I can fix it? Optiplex GX1 has Windows XP Pro and Dimension L933r has Windows 2000 pro. The hard disk is Seagate ST340213a

I am attempting to get into my Dell Dimension 8400. It may be I am having problems due to the SP3 update but I cannot get in to see if it is there and uninstall it. (It started going to the blue screen and I cannot do anything from any of the safe mode screens...they are just black with "safemode" in all 4 corners.) I have read up on the SP3 problems on the microsoft forums and found instruction on how to take care of it. It starts with the Recovery Console and the XPCD.
I get in there and it goes directly to "Setup loading files". When it tries to start windows I get this message: Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to our computer, and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer supplied diagnostic or set up program. Setup cannot continue. To quit

I want to reinstall Windows XP on our Toshiba laptop but I don't want to reinstall from the Toshiba disks due to the bloatware that the disks installs (like the disk utility, antivirus, etc software). I'd like to install the OS from a Microsoft Windows XP CD but wondered if the Microsoft disk would even install onto the Toshiba and if so, would the laptop function properly? Thanks.

Is it possible to install a 2nd Hard Disk, install XP on that, and then have the 1st Hard Disk boot menu offer the choice of booting its copy of XP, OR the copy on the 2nd Hard Disk?I imagine editing of boot.ini by hand would be necessary.Basically, I want a second Hard Disk for the KID'S setup, but don't want to use the BIOS to switch between the two, just use the boot menu.

am trying to install WIN XP on a wiped hard drive. When installing we get a blue screen with unmountable boot volume. The computer is a dell latitude d630, wiped with bcwipe, using streamlined xp install sp3. This issue has happened on mulitple systems. We have used the install disk in other systems and it works. The only step we have not tried is a putting the hard disk in another system. I wondering if there is anything that could cause this besides a corrupt hard disk.

I tried to install Ubuntu onto my HD yesterday, and i ran into an issue during the install (i received a message that said the optical disk or hard drive had an error and that the instal would be aborted). So the Ubuntu install was aborted, and i tried to boot back into windows but received this message:

Yeah I have reformatted my hard drives a few times over the years so I am no stranger to it however I am just curious about something. When I go to reformat with my DELL Windows XP Home Edition CD I will then revert back to SP1. I have SP3 installed onto my computer right now. I also have a SP2 CD I got from Microsoft about 3 years ago or so. Should I first install the SP2 cd or is there no need to do that seeing SP3 should have all of SP2 updates in it?

If I want to attach second hard disk with the same configuration of master hard disk, then system doesn't show second hard disk altogether or new hard disk begin to malfunction. Such as suddenly begin to give sounds like TICK, TICK TICK. Suddenly vanishes from the 'MY COMPUTER' drives. Suddenly denies to copy paste functions. BIOS shows both SATA drives. But Win XP doesn't load or simply hangs while starting up [booting up]. It happens when I attach second SATA drive with system. If only one SATA is attached, then WIN XP boots normally.

I'm trying to reinstall XP (currently using Ubuntu) and I'm having trouble with my disk. To make it clear--I have an official XP disk, and a product key. However, for some reason my computer absolutely refuses to boot from the disk, and I can't run the disk in Ubuntu.So is there anyway I can install windows XP without the disk? Do those downloadable floppy boot disks do the trick?

Tried to reinstall XP on a hard drive that previously had it installed but it hangs about half way through. Actually, i have tried 3 hard drives that i formatted first but it hangs on all of them. I looked at the disk but it doesn't look damaged.

It says that TOTAL SIZE = 39 GB And Free Space = 5 GB Which means that the size of all files on C is 34 GB But when I select all files including Hidden files and Right Click> Properties, its size of all files is only 27 GB.I did clear recycle bin and disk defragmenter C, but still the same. So why is that?

I am cloning my existing hard drive in my laptop (sata) to an external hard drive (pata) in preparation for installing a new larger hard drive (sata)in the laptop. Can I, or how do I transfer the cloned data from the external (pata) to the new internal hard drive (sata)? if someone could tell me how to format windows xp home edition from the bios and not using the xp disk. I have already tried right clicking on drive c and selecting format but the message says windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive. Then try formatting again.
So I closed all open programs that I could but still no luck. Then I tried the format from running the run command and typing format c:but I get this message format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format can run if this volume is dismounted first. All open handles to this volume would then be invalid. would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (y/n) so I type y for yes and hit enter then nothing

I upgraded my server, basically all I kept was the two hard drives from the old machine. The one hard drive is for the system files (~13GB) and the other is for storage, user files, etc (~160GB). I figured that then I reinstalled Windows 2000 Server on the System disk, I would just have to assign the other disk a drive letter and be on my way. Instead, in the disk management console, I get "Disk 1 [the 160GB) Dynamic Unreadable" I can revert to a basic disk, but it says I will lose all my information. It is imperative that the data on this disk be recovered.

I am facing two problems with my lap top hp campac presario 2100.
1.The loptops battery to be changed. I dont know how many batteries are there. Any cmos battery there like any other pc. Pl advice. What would be the cost. and the model number . The hard disk requires replacement. I want to know the model numberor exact type of hard disk would be fit in. and the cost thereof.3. Windows xp home edition has been preloaded in the laptop. I'm trying to reinstall XP on my Sony Vaio laptop after having to replace the hard drive. It won't boot from the CD - it just tells me that the operating system is not found. I had that much figured out. I'm no computer whiz, but it looks to me like the drive IS recognized in the BIOS. I even loaded the XP onto a flash drive and tried to boot from that.

I have tried numerous times to install IE7 but keep getting the error message "the following updates were not installed". The other piece of software that tries and fails to install at the same time is the Windows Malicious Software Removal tool. Windows update has verified with that my software is genuine (via Windows Genuine Advantage). Currently IE6 is installed on an OEM copy of XP with SP2 and all security patches. Firefox is my default browser. Has anyone experienced this and/or got a solution. p.s. This has been going on for a few weeks. Yesterday I re-installed XP from scratch as part of a system clean up and have been rebuilding everything but the problem of IE7 not installing is still there.

I have posted this problem before but none of the answers seemed to work. Windows XP Pro SP2 When I boot my computer up I have about 22 GB of space. After about 2 days it's all gone and I have to re-Boot the computer. I have looked at recent files etc but nothing is over a GB. I have also de-installed Bootvis as I thought that might be the problem.

I want to reload XP PRO, clean the haed drive and give him a fresh start, yet it tells me that I have an earlier version and will not let me install it. It says to reboot and start using my XP Pro and it still does not work. I have checked the BIOS and everything is right in it, i.e boot from CD. I for the life of me cannot format this drive so I can reload a fresh copy of XP PRO and all the updates, and then some other programs. I am pulling my hair out over this. I recently formatted my drive and am trying to reinstall my WIndows XP Pro.When I put in the CD and the PC starts up I receive a message: "Invalid System Disk. Replace the disk and then press any key"I have already changed my BIOS so that it boots from the CD first. Not sure what the problem is? prior to that error message, it states that I should "press any key to boot from CD"...when I try to push a key nothing happens. I know my keyboard works since I used it to enter the BIOS.

I have been looking on Ebay at used/refurbished computers for upgrading from my current and older P4 chip computer. One that I'm looking at says that it has a (legal and genuine version) of Windows XP Pro SP3 o/s installed on the custom built computer, but there's no disk. If I were to purchase a computer like this, and make a back up copy of that installed o/s on my own disk, will there be any difference than if I had received the original installation disk or manufacturer's restore disk?.....or would the installed (and backup) o/s be considered an "unlicensed" copy?
