Slow, Non-Responsive, Muted

May 3, 2007

I'm having a lot of trouble just in the last few days. I have a VAIO Laptop (model number is in my info) running Windows XP with SP2. I come home and get the start up screen for Windows XP (the running time meter on the bottom) that stays there for about 5 minutes. I shut it off, rebooted and it was an extended time, but it finally went. Upon the login screen, I log in and the melody it makes for logging on is cut halfway through, as if someone yanked the cord on speakers. Everything is running extremely slow. When I try to actually do anything, the program pretty much becomes non-responsive. Sometimes tryin to End Program on the non-responsive program will not work. The info box asking to send info over the internet appears, however teh program is still running. McAfee virus scanned, first time brought up 11 or 12 items, however I had to go and ended the scan, I dont know if it deleted/quarantined the items or not, but the next time I came home and tried it only found 1 item, which was just a cookie. Also, the scan took upwards of 3-4 hours...Also, my CPU Usage is idling and roaming (currently) around 85-100% which I know is bad. Can't really tell which Process is causing all the usage. Not even running any programs, it is hovering up in those high numbers. The 100% is not a peak either, it stays up there for a while.

ALL Non-responsive / Crashing At 50% CPU Usage?

Sep 24, 2006

I have this strange problem. Randomly some program or another would stop responding while using around 50% of processor usage. If I kill that unresponsive processes then the next used processes (say I switch to thunderbird window thereafter, or back to opera) then that next program would stop responding at 50% CPU usage. The solution is just to restart windows xp. However, if instead of killing the unresponsive program, suspending it (I use process explorer) would free up the CPU usgae, and everything woud continue running smoothly!

When Bringing PC Back From Sleep / Taskbar Is Non Responsive

Oct 29, 2007

I recently had to re-install Windows XP, and now when the computer comes back from sleep the taskbar is at the top of the screen and is non-responsive leading me to have to restart my computer every time it goes to sleep. The easy answer would to not have the pc go to sleep, so i tried that, and even when it goes to screen saver mode, after being in that for more than 30 minutes, the problem occurs. Anyone have an idea of what is going on?

Home Computer Acting Weird / Pop-ups, To The Point My Computer Freezes

Dec 2, 2004

I went out of town for 2 weeks, came home and my pc is acting really strange. I've been getting tons of pop-ups, to the point my computer freezes and i must restart. Not only that but it randomly reboots itself even when not being used. Also, when i go to delete files now, the file does NOT go into the recycle bin. I looked at the settings and there is no check mark next to the "do not move files into recycle bin". My BF said he had been downloading things so I figured maybe its a virus or something. I ran Nortons... nothing. Ran AVG... nothing. A friend told me it sounded like spyware so he told me to run Adaware & Spybot. Did that, found a ton of stuff. But when i retarted the pc, it wanted to start in "safe mode". I noticed that most of these pop ups are (search miracle ??) Found info that its a trojan, but i dont know. . I dont know what to do, totally computer illiterate.

Computer Screen Keeps Freezing: Keep Turning The Computer On And Off?

Mar 13, 2008

In recent weeks the computer screen keeps freezing with the cursor being replaced by the hour glass symbol. This usually happens after several hours computer usage - but sometimes it occurs soon after the computer is turned on.When this happens, I am unable to log off; the computer on/off button does not work when the screen freezes and I have to turn the computer off at the mains. In order to be able to log back into my broadband internet connection I have to turn the computer and and off twice and then on again Sometimes when the computer screen image freezes a message box appears always saying "End programme" (i.e. "End programme - CiceroUIWndFrame" or "End programme - mixer").

Moving WinHome From Old Computer To New Computer

Sep 17, 2007

I am building a new PC for my in-laws. However they are giving me their old PC, which I will be using to install Linux on and use as a learning tool for myself. The problem comes in that they would like to use their XP Home license on the new machine. The old machine is a Compaq, and Compaq only supplies rescue disks.not an actual XP disk.Is there anyway for me to get their legally owned copy of XP onto their new machine without them having a store bought XP Home disk? I do have access to a XP Home disk, is it possible to do the install with that, and just enter their Product Key, or will that be recognized as an incorrect Product Key?

Boot From An Old Computer's HDD On A New Computer?

Nov 21, 2009

I encrypted a folder with Windows encryption. This was on an old computer and it is now dead; motherboard is fried, hard drives are still fine though. I have a new computer now, with much newer, but similar hardware.I have the old hard drives in my new machine, so I can access all my old files, but I cant get into the encrypted folder, obviously. There isn't anything wrong with the Windows install, it's still there and I'd be able to boot into I if it was on the old hardware, but I'm not. What I want to do is boot into my old XP install on my new hardware to recover these encrypted files. I've tried booting already, but it either bluescreens and restarts before starting windows, or it just restarts without a bluescreen. The hardware is just too different.
