Jun 11, 2006
Ihave windows xp pro and it I think this all happened when i installed an antispyware program it asked me to restart my computer i did and i hasnt worked since itll get to the "windows is starting up" screen then it goes black and starts all over again ive tried every option in f8 same thing every single time.I also dont have a windows cd to reinstall is there anything i can do?
XP PRO, sp3: Was working on a friend's computer. Slaved his hard drive to my system. I put in Windows CD and hit Enter to repair an existing installation. I decided to give it a run, so I started the repair process. And of course, as soon as I did, I realized I was on the WRONG INSTALLATION (mine, which was working - not my friend's)! The operation hadn't yet started - at least according to the progress bar - and the screen said something like, "Setup is loading" or "Setup is preparing" or something like that.

I have an oldish comp - about...8 years old, but since I have had it I have done various upgrades over the years, so currently its running:...I have got it running Win98SE, but now have some spare copies of WinXP Home and Pro. I have checked the minimum sys requirements of WinXP, and it fits the minimum, BUT: is it worth it? Would installing WinXP just slow it down more?
The main motovation to upgrade is that I have found that a number of anti-virus programs wont run properly since version udates (example, AVG 6 to 7), and so I thought if I use a spare copy of WInXP, I could make it more secure by being able to run the programs properly (kind of an oximoron, installing WinXP for security...) Anyhow, is it worth doing? or will it just be really slow? If so, is there anyway i can delete what is undeeded, or do tweaking to make it run effectively?
It is frustrating having every program automatically install to program files, including minor things like audio attachment. I know I'll end up with tons and tons of folders in program files. Beyond that, I can't access program files from the other computers on the network. Is there a good way to reorganize/move files to my C drive in a way that would be efficient and wouldn't require reinstalling every single program in a different place?
How can I start a program on Windows startup and set the window of the programm always on top. That means that no other program which starts as well on startup, can set his window activ. Just my program should always be on top.Is that possible with a VBScript?
When i start my computer up, it will come up with the screen C:ProgramFilesYahooSearch and i have looked in msconfig in Startup to see if it's labled there but it isn't. Is there anyway i can get this to quit coming up?
How can i get the window of a program to stay the same size that i resize it to. I have Act and when i create a new email message the window is very small. I do not want to maximize, I just want it to be a little bigger. I resized to the size I want but when i create a new email it defaults back to the smaller size. Is there a trick to get the windows to stick to that size?
Every time I close my computer for the day I get the message "End Program Shellcon Hidden Window" I read your previous threads but I cannot decipher how to get rid of the message from my machine. I do have music match installed in my computer. Is this something you can help a beginner with?
After searching online I found your website and looks like very very helpful. So this is my first time asking you something.let's see how we get on. I am more than happy to contribute with donations if i get my problems resolved! Every time when I am going to shut down the computer I almost always get the dialog box message End Program - MCI command handling window.
Is there a tweak (prefferably) or free/safe utility that can be used to lock a browser window, program window would also be helpful, at full screen as to not allow users to do/access anything but whatever is inside that window? I have a an XP Pro machine and in the future Vista.I have searched but not found anything under the terms I have used.
Unable to install Adobe flash player. Tried going to site (uninstall, reinstall MANY times) with no luck. Read some of these other recent posts regarding, tried those suggestions, still no luck. Now the window for installing keeps popping up on its own asking me if I want to install, I click yes and nothing happens.
I am new to this website. I am intersted to see what kind of valuable feedback I can get for my current computer issue. I have 2 users set up on my Laptop PC. On my desktop, all programs function fine. On the other desktop for the other user, when a program is launched, it opens up as a blank program window. IE opens fine, but other programs such as McAfee and other certain Microsoft Office programs will open but not fully execute.
whenever I typed the letter T windows explorer would pop up, F the search Function would pop up, and b my computer would beep. I did not do anything to windows that I can remember that would account For this problem and I have not installed any new programs since Sept 3
I have an HP Pavilion dv6110us laptop that is running on Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002, and I'm using CA Security Center 2008, which was a recent upgrade that I installed. I'm experiencing similar problems that RHCPfreak21 had reported (system freezing, Task Manager taking forever to open and end a program, etc.). Also, after startup, Internet Explorer won't open, so I have to restart, and then it opens. At shutdown, I've been receiving the following messages:
AXWIN Frame Window DDE Server mdmcls32.exe
I've run several virus scans, and thank goodness none were found. However, the spyware scans found some files. Per your instructions to RHCPfreak21, I ordered AdWareSE 2007 to fix the AXWIN Frame Window error, and it found 19,372 infected files. All the files were from Wildtangent games. I started experiencing these problems the day after my niece had used my computer, and she likes to play Poker. She evidently went to a site that unleashed malware or something onto my computer without her knowing it. I'll find out tonight when I shutdown if it took care of the AXWIN Frame Window error. I hope so. I've also contacted Microsoft for the "hotfix" to fix the DDE Server message. I'm still waiting to hear from them.
Has anyone had a problem with a pop-up using the above name and freezing your computer? Can anyone tell me if this is a legit Microsoft product and website or not?
On my computer are installed (besides the XP firewall), MS AntiSpyware Beta 1, AVG7.0.308 and LavaSoft Adaware 6. Do I need all three, or would AntiSpyware do the job alone?
Just upgraded to the new beta version of Microsoft Antispyware that was released in June 2005.It keeps downloading and installing the same definitions, and reports that the new definitions are installed. When I click on updates, it does the same over and over again. I don't believe the new definitions are actually being installed. Is anybody else having the same problem?I uninstalled and reinstalled the MS Antispyware software and the same problem remains
I hope somebody can help me, although I suspect the PC has breathed it's last. On starting up, it hangs and won't go any further. I get the system information screen, then it just stops and the light doesn't flicker at all. I don't get any beeps either which I suspect is not a good sign. Does anybody have any suggestions for what I might do next? The PC is running (or not as the case may be) Windows
I am running XP Pro and have two accounts on my computer. Last night when my wife signed in on her account (I was previously signed in) she noticed a PONG sound which repeated itself about every five seconds. She doesn't remember exactly when it started but she thinks it started after she signed in and before starting any applications. I couldn't locate a source so I turned off her computer hoping whatever was causing it would cease and desist. No such luck. The same thing happed again tonight. I signed on first with no problem, but shortly after she signed on to her account the ponging started again. This time I did a restart and signed on to her account first. Great! No pong sound! But as soon as I signed into my own account it started again. In fact it is happening right now as I write this. Can you hear it? I am running ProcessGuard and RegDefend, along with a slew of antispyware. Nothing has come up, and my computer seems to be running fine otherwise. Anyone have any ideas what is causing this? I have never heard of this before (pun intended).
Why do i get this error message whenever i try to install certain programs, such as ACDsee, Acronis True Image, and a couple of other utilities? I've never had this problem before when installing these programs on my other Pc's. This message pops up right when i click on the setup.exe on some programs- not all, but some

I'm running a 3 year old version of XP pro and it has gotten progressively slower booting up. Seems like about two to three minutes or so ( I should time it). I've run msconfig and there doesn't seem to be anything too obvious and I don't want to screw with things I'm not sure of as well. Also, when launching Outlook Express ,any browser and Word are really slow also. Excel is fine. Seems really odd. I've run antivirus, antispyware, defrag all to no avail
Just wondering if installing a program such as this is worth it OR if the tools provided by Windows XP are sufficient to do the job for the average Joe User
Having set up a new Program Folder on the "E" drive, I have had some issues with installing new applications to this location.itunes for example, fails to install here with the following error 1606 - Error Could not access network location/

We currently running Windows XP Home on our 2 Pc's at home. Four people use the PC's and we each have our own logins. Is there a way so that when my son installs new software, (he seems to install about 10 new programs per day), it will ONLY populate his program list on his logon and NOT the program list for the other 3 users of the PC? I notice that some installations ask if there will be a single or multiple users of that program, but what I would really like is to be able to be selective EVERY TIME.
The windows installer on my computer keeps popping up every now and then wanting to install a program I had downloaded on the net but do not want anymore. I have deleted the downloaded program file but windows installer still keeps popping up wanting to install the program.
