Somehow I was messing with the shortcuts in my start menu and converted my theme to WINDOWS CLASSIC.
I went back to my DISPLAY/APPEARANCES settings and found that the WINDOWS XP theme option is now gone!
HELP! I feel like I'm trapped in Windows 95 right now. I actually liked the XP color/pattern scheme!
What can I do to get it back?
I came home today and found my computer had turned from the sleek silver windows xp theme into the windows classic version. I also have no sound and in the control panel it isn't picking up any audio devices. I cant change the theme back to windows xp in properties either it says im using Windows XP (modified). PLEASE HELP ME! All i know is that the power went out at some point today (about 7 hours ago)

I've used programs like Style XP or Theme XP but non of them have the theme I want. I want windows to look the way it does when you chose Start Shut down. Basically a greyscale theme is what I'm looking for. I realize that sounds wierd but maybe someone out there already has it and they wouldn't mind pointing me to where it can be found.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm running Win XP and I have a question about setting up a modem connection while already having a DSL internet connection.I would like to set up a modem connection so I could get on the internet whenever my DSL connection goes down. Here's the problem. When I open Network Connections icon in the Control Panel and click the New Connection Wizard, the "Connect using a dial-up modem" option is grayed out and can't be clicked. Does anyone know what I could do to get that option back?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded an icon theme from www.everaldo.com The icons look great but I have no idea how to apply them. I downloaded it as a .tar.gz and then I extracted it to a folder containing folders with different sized icon, a file called ".dolphinview" and an "index.theme" file. I tried simply opening the index.theme file from "themes" in display properties but it cannot read it. When I open it in OOO and compare it to a theme it looks very different, a theme starts with [Theme] whereas this begins with [Icon Theme]. I think I am supposed to attach the index.theme file to my theme but I have no idea how.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've found a way to get a theme out of XP-Windows Server 2003 without using the theme service. It's basically a variation of the silver theme. The steps are assuming you don't have the theme service turned on.
1.Open the Run command and type in services.msc
2.Find Themes, double click it and start the service

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have win xp with norton goback 4.0 on it. Has been working fine but when son added a larger power supply i cannot boot into windows now. I get a black screen that says. GoBack internal Error-Failure code: gb_genlog(175)-Press any key to reboot. When i press any key i get Norton screen that says please wait. But then it goes right back to the erroe screen.Cannot get into windows to remove norton, so is there a way to get to dos or something to remove it ?Also my son says if i need to wipe HD and start over that maybe he can put my HD in his computer as a slave and copy the files i do not want to lose.

For some reason for a couple of weeks now my computer hangs all of a sudden no matter what I'm doing. Sometimes I am watching a movie, sometimes playing a game, and sometimes, I just leave it open coz a download is running, I come back and check 10 minutes later, the computer has hanged. I have noticed that when this happens, the hard-disk light comes permanently on.
Ran AVG and found few viruses, removed those, no avail. Ran malware/spyware remover, found few, removed those, no avail. Formatted C drive, reinstalled windows, PC ran well for 10 days, problem came back. Initially had 512 MB RAM, changed it to 1GB, formatted PC again, PC ran well for 10 days, problem back again. Can't run checkdisks and all because the comp hangs every single time.
I want to back up my files to an external hard drive using Windows Backup, but it is not shown as an option. The only options shown are the floppy and f: drives. Can you use this program to back up to an external drive? If so, how do you tell it where to send the data?

Recently noticed that when I left-click on any of the icons of the Hard-disk drives and/or Devices with Removable Storage within 'My Computer', the 'Search' Option opens up by default instead of the 'Open' option, like in other folders. Likewise, when I right-click on the said icons, the 'Search' option is topmost & the 'Open' option has been relegated to second position. I would like the Search option to come first. Can't remember whether this was so from before or changed recently.

I have a dual boot PC, Windows ME on one HDD and XP on another,but for some reason the windows XP setup is now one of the options, and I 'd like to get rid of it without messing up the bootlog. When I found it I install it, but installed few XP to Vista programs and my theme is totally bad. Now I need your help how to get previous theme. I tried to use uninstall options in XP to Vista programs but that didn't work.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI did an AVG Rootkit scan which turned up "c:windows/system32/userinit.exe" as a dodgy file. I removed it and now the machine won't login when I boot the system. With a bit more digging it seems that this file was actually the login information within the registry and as it can't find a valid user/password it just keeps asking me click the user name and login. When I click it just loops back and throws back up the window, asking me to click the user name again.How I can access the registry and reset the userinit.exe file?I've tried selecting "last good configuration" which didn't work.I also tried to download Bart PE on another machine (running Vista) to set up a boot CD, but it wasn't particularly clear how to go about it, so I tried using the XP System Recovery app on the install disks. This got me into a C: prompt.

I remembered that the Dell did not come with a Windows XP install disc in case I need to re-format. Is this normal? There is an option under Start....Accessories....System Tools to create OS backup disc. Is that what I need to make a disc or should it have came with one?

It started acting weird a couple of days ago when it took sometimes two hits on the back arrow to go back. Now it doesn't go back to the previous page at all.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just spent a number of hours getting rid of Trojan.desktophijack.B and Trojan.popuper, and now i cant get my windows xp theme off of "windows classic." i can select the theme but when i go to "windows and buttons" all that is available is "windows classic style." how do i fix this? i find it ironic that i can manually clean a registry but changing themes is beyond me.

I've tried applying the theme with StyleXP, but it wasn't compatible with my build of XP. I've also tried using TuneUp Utilities Styler, but that didn't help either. I've checked Taskbar->Properties->Start Menu, and it was set to "Windows XP", not classic
cant get the xp theme back on my system after removing a virus and using the restore feature on my xp cd. I did notice that my theme changed to the windows classic style while dealing with the virus. The virus changed my theme to classic and added a webpage as my background picture so I think that was the cause. What should I do to fix this problem of not being able to change my theme to xp.
Ps. The theme is available but when I choose it all it does is it changes my background picture and colors but my buttons and windows stay classic.
I have just gone through the process of removing viruses from my computer, and then my XP theme goes away. I use XP Home Edition, and I am stuck with the Classic Theme with the lame white bars everywhere. Where do I go to reclaim my XP Theme?
