cant get the xp theme back on my system after removing a virus and using the restore feature on my xp cd. I did notice that my theme changed to the windows classic style while dealing with the virus. The virus changed my theme to classic and added a webpage as my background picture so I think that was the cause. What should I do to fix this problem of not being able to change my theme to xp.
Ps. The theme is available but when I choose it all it does is it changes my background picture and colors but my buttons and windows stay classic.
I have just gone through the process of removing viruses from my computer, and then my XP theme goes away. I use XP Home Edition, and I am stuck with the Classic Theme with the lame white bars everywhere. Where do I go to reclaim my XP Theme?
I have Windows XP Home and I run IE. I have this stupid virus in the archives and I can't get rid of it. I've deleted the file called PopCap, but it still shows in the archives. I've included a HiJackThis log just in case that will help you figure this out.
Was upgraded to Office 2003 but has plain gray borders; I had it at last firm and overall look was blue which I believe was the XP theme. Under Display Properties > Color scheme, Windows XP is not a choice. I'm thinking I'm missing the XP Theme (Themes as a service is running) but can't seem to find the download on www.microsoft.com
Please give advice on what to delete to clean up IE. Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.0 Scan saved at 8:16:49 PM, on 2/18/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)
I have downloaded an icon theme from www.everaldo.com The icons look great but I have no idea how to apply them. I downloaded it as a .tar.gz and then I extracted it to a folder containing folders with different sized icon, a file called ".dolphinview" and an "index.theme" file. I tried simply opening the index.theme file from "themes" in display properties but it cannot read it. When I open it in OOO and compare it to a theme it looks very different, a theme starts with [Theme] whereas this begins with [Icon Theme]. I think I am supposed to attach the index.theme file to my theme but I have no idea how.
I'm being driven insane by this. An office laptop running XP Home was riddled with malware - spyfighter, pcadprotector, CSW.HomeSearch etc. I've managed to remove them all after a full day of hassle but I'm still left with a frustrating issue in that I cannot adjust the desktop background. The properties box is greyed out for backgrounds. We have a simple peer to peer network (workgroup in fact) and no internal security or policies. What can I do before I throw the thing out of the window?
In an attempt to remove malware, I accidently deleted some registry keys and am unable to log back onto my user name. I had exported the entire registry (*.reg) prior to screwing with the registry. Can somebody help me figure out how to restore my registry to the previous condition. Doing an import doesn't work.

I did remove virus efeected files and my PC is behaving badly, it responds very slow to commands and freezes. Here is the log. Can anybody help me to resore my computer
I'll try to remember, to the best of my ability, the sequence of events...Suffice it to say that I downloaded and tried to install something I shouldn't have. I Immediately tried to get out of the errors from AVG (free version) and stop the install. All seems good, then IE keeps opening to bogus ad sites. I realize I've got something. AVG and AdAware both fail in removing this Win32Trojan.tdss (I think AVG gave me this description). AVG tells me to reboot to remove it properly. Reboot throws me into "can't verify this installation of Windows". Boot in safe mode work, then I get the same error on reboot...even in safe mode.
I don't have the original Windows CD (separated from husband and software at the same time; cannot find any software now), but it's a Dell and it came with Windows XP Home (product key on box), but I installed XP Pro instead. Don't know what product key was used or how to get it.....
I've found a way to get a theme out of XP-Windows Server 2003 without using the theme service. It's basically a variation of the silver theme. The steps are assuming you don't have the theme service turned on.
1.Open the Run command and type in services.msc
2.Find Themes, double click it and start the service
I was very curious when Vista came out. I searched google for Vista theme for XP. When I found it I install it, but installed few XP to Vista programs and my theme is totally bad. Now I need your help how to get previous theme. I tried to use uninstall options in XP to Vista programs but that didn't work.
I need seven theme with its own glass borders(not any third party apps) in window. Also glass border for properties menu(which i found in none theme). My OS XP SP2 Professional no need separate third party apps i need fully integrated theme.
I just spent a number of hours getting rid of Trojan.desktophijack.B and Trojan.popuper, and now i cant get my windows xp theme off of "windows classic." i can select the theme but when i go to "windows and buttons" all that is available is "windows classic style." how do i fix this? i find it ironic that i can manually clean a registry but changing themes is beyond me.
I have windows xp sp2 and I am using windows classic style i tried to right click desktop go to properties and click on appearance (so i could change back to windows xp style) but in the drop down menu all i see is one option which is the classic theme
Here's a screenshot. You can see how some aspects of the OS are changed (because of the theme), but the taskbar looks like it's in classic mode

I've tried applying the theme with StyleXP, but it wasn't compatible with my build of XP. I've also tried using TuneUp Utilities Styler, but that didn't help either. I've checked Taskbar->Properties->Start Menu, and it was set to "Windows XP", not classic
I originally lost my windows "luna" themes and it reverted back to classic themes only at this point it would not let me change the theme without giving me a much dreaded error message for even highlighting the new theme rightclickdesktop -> properties -> appearance I can no longer change the selected theme as the box and drop down is "greyed out" and locked for some reason However, i can change the color and font and effects and advanced. Unfortunately, without an external program like Tuneup Utilities 2009 i can not change my theme back to XP's Luna theme from classic any other way of my knowledge. So i have to run that program every time i restart if i want my theme back every time i get on my pc.
After an attempt to install a new dvd player, my windows XP Luna theme (the one for windows xp verses windows classic) is gone! I try to click on the file but when you say ok, an alert window pops up and says that the "theme service is not loaded" and to "turn it on in the Computer Management Administrative Tool in the Control Panel." How on earth do you do this? I cannot figure it out.
I have just rebooted my PC and it only has the Windows Classic theme. I think this might be because i have disabled something thru services.msc.Does anyone know which service i need to change to Automatic or Manual?
My Windows XP now had the Windows ME theme. I try changing it but does not work. The Windows XP option does not appear. Hre is what I did that might have affected it:
1) I downloaded The "Vista Transformation Pack" 2) I restarted my computer after installing. 3) It did not work, so I decided to uninstall i. 4) After that, I restarted my computer and the windows xp them was gone.
how to change the theme that windows xp uses to show the logonand shutdown screens. The colors it uses are at the following:HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTControl PanelColorsThe Window and Font Sizes are at the following:HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTControl PanelDesktopWindowMetricsThe way i did it is getting my desktop to look like i wanted the logon andshutdown screens to look and export the keys from:HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelColorsHKEY_CURRENT_USERControl
After doing some maintenance on my computer, simply removing old unused programs through the "add / remove programs" option in 'control panel', I lost my ability to have any XP based theme. While I was doing the cleanup a few programs asked me to restart or continue, I selected continue until I was done removing all of the programs that I no longer needed or used... Once I did restart it came back up and everything runs great, but No XP look
i was changing through the included XP themes - only something went wrong when i swaped to the blue theme every thing has gone black apart from a few icons, i cant see any text from windows applications or anything etc so i can't change back, i don't know what is open or closed or anything.
I have XPSP3 running on my computer and after cancelling a download of themes half way through(I know I shouldn't do that) I haven't been able to change my colours or theme. I have tried many methods from "Doug", a restore, but not yet a repair because I don't have an SP3 disk. I have copied the message I get here, any help would be appreciated thanks. An exception occurred while trying to run "C:Windowssystem32shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:WINDOWSsystem32desk.cpl",Display"
