Jul 21, 2005I somehow contracted CoolWebSearch in my msconfig file. CWShredder keeps finding it and removing it, but the next time I reboot, it is there again.

Jul 8, 2010I run a Dell XPS M140. I'm ready to pull my hair out. Three days ago I was infected with the "AV Security Suites" virus. I immediately shut down my computer, restarted in Safe Mode With Networking, and ran every single thing I had. I ran Avast, Spybot, Ad-aware, Malwarebytes, CCleaner, Registry Mechanic, Advanced System Care, and Glary Utilities. I thought I got it. I restarted my computer in normal mode and all seemed well until I noticed I cannot change my desktop theme or wallpaper. When I change the theme to "Windows Classic", it works, but when I restart my computer it's right back to the XP theme (green start button/blue taskbars)

Nov 25, 2009I have downloaded an icon theme from www.everaldo.com The icons look great but I have no idea how to apply them. I downloaded it as a .tar.gz and then I extracted it to a folder containing folders with different sized icon, a file called ".dolphinview" and an "index.theme" file. I tried simply opening the index.theme file from "themes" in display properties but it cannot read it. When I open it in OOO and compare it to a theme it looks very different, a theme starts with [Theme] whereas this begins with [Icon Theme]. I think I am supposed to attach the index.theme file to my theme but I have no idea how.

Can't Get Classic Theme
Sep 19, 2005I just spent a number of hours getting rid of Trojan.desktophijack.B and Trojan.popuper, and now i cant get my windows xp theme off of "windows classic." i can select the theme but when i go to "windows and buttons" all that is available is "windows classic style." how do i fix this? i find it ironic that i can manually clean a registry but changing themes is beyond me.

I've tried applying the theme with StyleXP, but it wasn't compatible with my build of XP. I've also tried using TuneUp Utilities Styler, but that didn't help either. I've checked Taskbar->Properties->Start Menu, and it was set to "Windows XP", not classic
On Removing The Virus - Xp Theme Is Gone
Jan 16, 2006cant get the xp theme back on my system after removing a virus and using the restore feature on my xp cd. I did notice that my theme changed to the windows classic style while dealing with the virus. The virus changed my theme to classic and added a webpage as my background picture so I think that was the cause. What should I do to fix this problem of not being able to change my theme to xp.
Ps. The theme is available but when I choose it all it does is it changes my background picture and colors but my buttons and windows stay classic.

Mar 17, 2005Somehow I was messing with the shortcuts in my start menu and converted my theme to WINDOWS CLASSIC.
I went back to my DISPLAY/APPEARANCES settings and found that the WINDOWS XP theme option is now gone!
HELP! I feel like I'm trapped in Windows 95 right now. I actually liked the XP color/pattern scheme!

Theme Changing Lost Start Up
Jul 18, 2008One out every five boots, my system starts up with what looks like a classic theme (win98) instead of xp. Sometimes I can switch the theme back to XP, sometimes I have tpo reboot several times to get that fix to work, and sometimes it boots up ok. I am running a pretty basic HP nx6110 laptop with windows XP pro, windows has been reloaded and updated with the latest patches, but this problem still persists.
