sometimes after re-boot windows it changes my theme settings from classic > default... and its starting to drive me crazy.. never had this problem ever before on any of my systems.. but I now own a c2d 6600.. system properties > use visual styles on windows and buttons = OFF properties > themes = windows classic properties > apperance = windows classic style.
View 7 RepliesMy Windows XP now had the Windows ME theme. I try changing it but does not work. The Windows XP option does not appear. Hre is what I did that might have affected it:
1) I downloaded The "Vista Transformation Pack"
2) I restarted my computer after installing.
3) It did not work, so I decided to uninstall i.
4) After that, I restarted my computer and the windows xp them was gone.
One out every five boots, my system starts up with what looks like a classic theme (win98) instead of xp. Sometimes I can switch the theme back to XP, sometimes I have tpo reboot several times to get that fix to work, and sometimes it boots up ok. I am running a pretty basic HP nx6110 laptop with windows XP pro, windows has been reloaded and updated with the latest patches, but this problem still persists.

Also, my IIS settings keep changing almost every time i start/restart my PC and that its a pain because I work on it very much.I am very concerned about it. But then i got GAIN from i think some codec i got online, and then my cpu usage used to jump up to 100% quite frequently. I attempted to look online as to how to remove GAIN from my computer,It has some changes to the registry which i did without making backup of it. So now my login screen will not appear i can not get into any mode, i.e. safe mode i cant restore my computer (even though i dont want to) because system restore is off

What it does give you though, is a Visual style file of extension .msstyle, and a shell style file of name shellstyle.dll. Upon further investigation, I have been able to find similar files under /windows/resources/themes/. I suppose that they are used to actually store the information needed by the .theme file. Now, with the background info laid out, would anyone know how to either:Create a new theme that utilizes the info provided by the two files shown or modify an existing style (such as Luna aka Windows XP standard?

I downloaded it as a .tar.gz and then I extracted it to a folder containing folders with different sized icon, a file called ".dolphinview" and an "index.theme" file. I tried simply opening the index.theme file from "themes" in display properties but it cannot read it. When I open it in OOO and compare it to a theme it looks very different, a theme starts with [Theme] whereas this begins with [Icon Theme]. I think I am supposed to attach the index.theme file to my theme but I have no idea how.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've found a way to get a theme out of XP-Windows Server 2003 without using the theme service. It's basically a variation of the silver theme. The steps are assuming you don't have the theme service turned on.
1.Open the Run command and type in services.msc
2.Find Themes, double click it and start the service
I found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly

I'm having a major problem with XP Home Edition. When I start my computer, I get the Loading Settings screen, which automatically switches to the Saving Settings screen and then goes back to Loading Settings, Saving Settings, etc, etc, (the "Windows XP Startup" and "Windows XP Shutdown" sounds repeat themselves one right after the other). By the way, I have the XP tweak that skips the Welcome and log on screens at startup since I'm the only person that uses the computer. I've tried Debugging, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Restore To Last Working Settings and a few others, but nothing is working. I ran Spybot just before shutting down the computer the last time it worked and got the "Congratulations! Your system contains no spyware" message. When I restarted the computer, I started having this problem. I also have Norton Anti Virus 2004 and did a Live Update (manually) a few hours before this started happening.

I just spent a number of hours getting rid of Trojan.desktophijack.B and Trojan.popuper, and now i cant get my windows xp theme off of "windows classic." i can select the theme but when i go to "windows and buttons" all that is available is "windows classic style." how do i fix this? i find it ironic that i can manually clean a registry but changing themes is beyond me.

I've tried applying the theme with StyleXP, but it wasn't compatible with my build of XP. I've also tried using TuneUp Utilities Styler, but that didn't help either. I've checked Taskbar->Properties->Start Menu, and it was set to "Windows XP", not classic
cant get the xp theme back on my system after removing a virus and using the restore feature on my xp cd. I did notice that my theme changed to the windows classic style while dealing with the virus. The virus changed my theme to classic and added a webpage as my background picture so I think that was the cause. What should I do to fix this problem of not being able to change my theme to xp.
Ps. The theme is available but when I choose it all it does is it changes my background picture and colors but my buttons and windows stay classic.

at this point it would not let me change the theme without giving me a much dreaded error message for even highlighting the new theme rightclickdesktop -> properties -> appearance I can no longer change the selected theme as the box and drop down is "greyed out" and locked for some reason However, i can change the color and font and effects and advanced. Unfortunately, without an external program like Tuneup Utilities 2009 i can not change my theme back to XP's Luna theme from classic any other way of my knowledge. So i have to run that program every time i restart if i want my theme back every time i get on my pc.
