One out every five boots, my system starts up with what looks like a classic theme (win98) instead of xp. Sometimes I can switch the theme back to XP, sometimes I have tpo reboot several times to get that fix to work, and sometimes it boots up ok. I am running a pretty basic HP nx6110 laptop with windows XP pro, windows has been reloaded and updated with the latest patches, but this problem still persists.
View 4 RepliesMy Windows XP now had the Windows ME theme. I try changing it but does not work. The Windows XP option does not appear. Hre is what I did that might have affected it:
1) I downloaded The "Vista Transformation Pack"
2) I restarted my computer after installing.
3) It did not work, so I decided to uninstall i.
4) After that, I restarted my computer and the windows xp them was gone.
sometimes after re-boot windows it changes my theme settings from classic > default... and its starting to drive me crazy.. never had this problem ever before on any of my systems.. but I now own a c2d 6600.. system properties > use visual styles on windows and buttons = OFF properties > themes = windows classic properties > apperance = windows classic style.

at this point it would not let me change the theme without giving me a much dreaded error message for even highlighting the new theme rightclickdesktop -> properties -> appearance I can no longer change the selected theme as the box and drop down is "greyed out" and locked for some reason However, i can change the color and font and effects and advanced. Unfortunately, without an external program like Tuneup Utilities 2009 i can not change my theme back to XP's Luna theme from classic any other way of my knowledge. So i have to run that program every time i restart if i want my theme back every time i get on my pc.
After an attempt to install a new dvd player, my windows XP Luna theme (the one for windows xp verses windows classic) is gone! I try to click on the file but when you say ok, an alert window pops up and says that the "theme service is not loaded" and to "turn it on in the Computer Management Administrative Tool in the Control Panel." How on earth do you do this? I cannot figure it out.

While I was doing the cleanup a few programs asked me to restart or continue, I selected continue until I was done removing all of the programs that I no longer needed or used... View 5 Replies View RelatedI have no way of restoring my default windows xp theme!let me first explain that i downloaded several custom themes for my computer and didnt care to revert back to the orignal theme until now. i recently downloaded a theme and have used it for a month but now i want to change it all back to my original xp theme and cant find a way to do it. windows xp theme is selectable in my theme tab but the only thing it will change is my wallpaper and the sounds. i still have the taskbar and windows and icons from the last theme i used! i checked to see if i had the luna theme in my windows folder and i did and i have looked through alot of google groups to find a solution and have almost tried them all. ive went and downloaded registry keys that are supposed to fix the problem but they havent.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI come home to visit my family for Christmas last night and use my old desktop. its working fine besides its a little slow. i figure its from my little sister downloading stuff. easily fixed problem. so i try to fix the problem by deleting things that were useless to her and i and were making the computer slow. i restart the computer and my windows xp theme has disappeared, there are no more network places or networks, for that matter, and i have no sound card now.

It was along! time ago.. my theme stuffed up after installing StyleXP. i didnt think much of it and i should of system restored it except i didnt. if i do this. Start > Run > services.msc > then scroll down to themes. its on "Automatic" but the service isnt running, its stopped, if i try to start the service it comes up with this error: "Could not start the Theme service on Local Computer. Error 126: The Specified Module Could not be Found."

First i had a problem with uxtheme.dll and i fixed it but now themes work cept they dont apply to the taskbar or start menu but they do for everything else and iv tryed to fix uxtheme.dll a few more time like sue the repare i have and still nuthin y wont they affect it. What it does give you though, is a Visual style file of extension .msstyle, and a shell style file of name shellstyle.dll. Upon further investigation, I have been able to find similar files under /windows/resources/themes/. I suppose that they are used to actually store the information needed by the .theme file. Now, with the background info laid out, would anyone know how to either:Create a new theme that utilizes the info provided by the two files shown or modify an existing style (such as Luna aka Windows XP standard?

I downloaded it as a .tar.gz and then I extracted it to a folder containing folders with different sized icon, a file called ".dolphinview" and an "index.theme" file. I tried simply opening the index.theme file from "themes" in display properties but it cannot read it. When I open it in OOO and compare it to a theme it looks very different, a theme starts with [Theme] whereas this begins with [Icon Theme]. I think I am supposed to attach the index.theme file to my theme but I have no idea how.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've found a way to get a theme out of XP-Windows Server 2003 without using the theme service. It's basically a variation of the silver theme. The steps are assuming you don't have the theme service turned on.
1.Open the Run command and type in services.msc
2.Find Themes, double click it and start the service
While cleaning up files on my computer, I deleted all the shortcuts on my start button. Can this be fixed easily?

In Windows XP, the Windows Explorer application is found under "start/programs/accessories". I clicked on the application listing there and dragged it on to my desktop. There is now an icon on the desktop for it, but it has disappeared from the apps listings in "start/programs/accessories". How can I restore the program listing there?

I noticed I had 2 music and picture folders in My Documents. I deleted the Folders that had been moved when I reloacated. When I went back to the start menu, My Music and My Pictures were gone. I looked in properties, and the two items were selected. I went to the registry and the entries for music and pictures were gone in UserShellFolders and ShellFolders. I recreated the entries. After all of this, there are still no icons for Music and Pictures on the start menu.

I have a huge problem that was caused by me trying to delete what I thought were viruses. I went into my "processes running" in the windows task manager and deleted (End Process) what I thought were viruses. I was wrong. I deleted all of my desktop icons and the toolbar/taskbar on the bottom that includes my "start" icon. I can not figure out how to get it back to where it was before I screwed it up. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have lost my start menu I also have lost the bottom task bar. In addition the views have all changed on the tool bars. For example, on the internet explorer tool bar, the icons are on top of each other or otherwise unaccessible. Several programs no longer work and I get error messages as follows "The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect..." I hit control-alt-delete, nothing happens.
I went to Housecall and ran a virus scan and nothing showed up. I had previously installed (many months ago) SpyBot S&D. As noted above, this is one of the programs that will not run and I get the error message. I tried to uninstall this program and then reinstall it. After downloading the program, I still got the above error message that the application configuration is incorrect.
I tried to start in safe mode. Although I cannot get to system configuration utility, I was able to get to safe mode by hitting F8 as the computer was starting. I selected safe mode and then selected Windows XP as the operating system. The next screen had the words safe mode in each corner and a Log On window in the middle.
I am trying to change the Start Windows sound in the sound scheme. I downloaded a fanfare i wanted to use and changed it to a WAV file, but when Windows starts, i only get the first note, about half a second. When I click on the sound in the change sounds in sounds and audio device properties, it plays fine.
