My Windows XP now had the Windows ME theme. I try changing it but does not work. The Windows XP option does not appear. Hre is what I did that might have affected it:
1) I downloaded The "Vista Transformation Pack"
2) I restarted my computer after installing.
3) It did not work, so I decided to uninstall i.
4) After that, I restarted my computer and the windows xp them was gone.
One out every five boots, my system starts up with what looks like a classic theme (win98) instead of xp. Sometimes I can switch the theme back to XP, sometimes I have tpo reboot several times to get that fix to work, and sometimes it boots up ok. I am running a pretty basic HP nx6110 laptop with windows XP pro, windows has been reloaded and updated with the latest patches, but this problem still persists.

What it does give you though, is a Visual style file of extension .msstyle, and a shell style file of name shellstyle.dll. Upon further investigation, I have been able to find similar files under /windows/resources/themes/. I suppose that they are used to actually store the information needed by the .theme file. Now, with the background info laid out, would anyone know how to either:Create a new theme that utilizes the info provided by the two files shown or modify an existing style (such as Luna aka Windows XP standard?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a client that had a home network setup with a domain.He has recently taken all the workstations off the domain and has switched them all over to a workgroup.On one of the workstations he can no longer log into windows with his normal admin username/password.There is nothing in the options drop down that will allow him to log onto the local machine either. How would changing a workstation from Domain to Workgroup have caused this problem?Im not sure what to tell my client other than reformatting and reloading XP as he cannot get into Windows at all.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded an icon theme from www.everaldo.com The icons look great but I have no idea how to apply them. I downloaded it as a .tar.gz and then I extracted it to a folder containing folders with different sized icon, a file called ".dolphinview" and an "index.theme" file. I tried simply opening the index.theme file from "themes" in display properties but it cannot read it. When I open it in OOO and compare it to a theme it looks very different, a theme starts with [Theme] whereas this begins with [Icon Theme]. I think I am supposed to attach the index.theme file to my theme but I have no idea how.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently switched all the workstation at my work to restricted or power users,. And almost immediately everyone was complaining their computers were way slower. Logon is slow. Programs open and react slow. I swapped a few back to administrator permissions and they said it improved their performance as soon as they logged on. I searched and searched and found no good info on why this happened. Everyone is running HP DX2250's with 2Gig of RAM, XP Pro SP3, Office '07, IE8. Microsoft updates are all up to date as of a few days ago. All the computers are networked to a Windows 2003 SBS Server.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a compaq computer and have a problem with the restore cd from compaq. I needed to reformat the hard drive because of some crup files. When I put the restore cd in the computer is says the cd's are not for this compaq. I taked to compaq and gave them all the information they ask for and was told that I had the correct cd and it must be a bad cd set. They had me order a new set of cd's from there online store which I did with the part number they gave me after I double checked the number to see if they were correct and I got them in yesterday and still had the same problem. I talked to hp again last night and was told that the mother board most likely needed to be tatoo to match the cd's. I was told to take it to one of there repair stores to have this done. Never heard of a mother board changing it's self.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've found a way to get a theme out of XP-Windows Server 2003 without using the theme service. It's basically a variation of the silver theme. The steps are assuming you don't have the theme service turned on.
1.Open the Run command and type in services.msc
2.Find Themes, double click it and start the service
I was very curious when Vista came out. I searched google for Vista theme for XP.
When I found it I install it, but installed few XP to Vista programs and my theme is totally bad. Now I need your help how to get previous theme. I tried to use uninstall options in XP to Vista programs but that didn't work.
In this tutorial for Google Earth, there is a windows Theme in it. Does anyone know what that theme is and where to download it?

I just spent a number of hours getting rid of Trojan.desktophijack.B and Trojan.popuper, and now i cant get my windows xp theme off of "windows classic." i can select the theme but when i go to "windows and buttons" all that is available is "windows classic style." how do i fix this? i find it ironic that i can manually clean a registry but changing themes is beyond me.

I've tried applying the theme with StyleXP, but it wasn't compatible with my build of XP. I've also tried using TuneUp Utilities Styler, but that didn't help either. I've checked Taskbar->Properties->Start Menu, and it was set to "Windows XP", not classic
cant get the xp theme back on my system after removing a virus and using the restore feature on my xp cd. I did notice that my theme changed to the windows classic style while dealing with the virus. The virus changed my theme to classic and added a webpage as my background picture so I think that was the cause. What should I do to fix this problem of not being able to change my theme to xp.
Ps. The theme is available but when I choose it all it does is it changes my background picture and colors but my buttons and windows stay classic.

at this point it would not let me change the theme without giving me a much dreaded error message for even highlighting the new theme rightclickdesktop -> properties -> appearance I can no longer change the selected theme as the box and drop down is "greyed out" and locked for some reason However, i can change the color and font and effects and advanced. Unfortunately, without an external program like Tuneup Utilities 2009 i can not change my theme back to XP's Luna theme from classic any other way of my knowledge. So i have to run that program every time i restart if i want my theme back every time i get on my pc.

Somehow I was messing with the shortcuts in my start menu and converted my theme to WINDOWS CLASSIC.
I went back to my DISPLAY/APPEARANCES settings and found that the WINDOWS XP theme option is now gone!

I have no way of restoring my default windows xp theme!let me first explain that i downloaded several custom themes for my computer and didnt care to revert back to the orignal theme until now. i recently downloaded a theme and have used it for a month but now i want to change it all back to my original xp theme and cant find a way to do it. windows xp theme is selectable in my theme tab but the only thing it will change is my wallpaper and the sounds. i still have the taskbar and windows and icons from the last theme i used! i checked to see if i had the luna theme in my windows folder and i did and i have looked through alot of google groups to find a solution and have almost tried them all. ive went and downloaded registry keys that are supposed to fix the problem but they havent.
