View 9 RepliesI'm having some problems with my computer that started yesterday afternoon. I was on it that morning and it worked perfect and i shut it down properly before school only to find that when i got home it wont let me logon to a windows user account. After booting the windows user account pops-up and after selecting my account the computer will shut down. A friend of mine said that there might be something wrong with the winlogon but i cant find any info about that online. Right now im using safe mode with networking and i also tried accecsing the boot menu and selecting "disable automatic restart after system failure". Now rather than restarting it gives me a blue screen that reads:

To remove the shutdown button from the logon screen in WinXP and 2K, use regedit and navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionpoliciessystem...change the value of the dword 'shutdownwithoutlogon' to '0'. exit regedit!
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy laptop freezes 9/10 when i choose shutdown and i have to force it by holding down the power button sometimes (4/10) it freezes when you leave it on its own for a while, usually when the screensaver kicked in it would ask for user to log on again..it was when bringing it out of screensaver it would do this - so i disabled the screensaver and now its not as often when it happens - its just if its been left for a while sometimes the screen will go black and freeze, it happened once or twice when logging off and other user goes to log on.. so t appears to be problem with the log on part of the setup

I downloaded it as a .tar.gz and then I extracted it to a folder containing folders with different sized icon, a file called ".dolphinview" and an "index.theme" file. I tried simply opening the index.theme file from "themes" in display properties but it cannot read it. When I open it in OOO and compare it to a theme it looks very different, a theme starts with [Theme] whereas this begins with [Icon Theme]. I think I am supposed to attach the index.theme file to my theme but I have no idea how.

1.Open the Run command and type in services.msc
2.Find Themes, double click it and start the service
My computer starts up normally.It always just autologs on since I'm the only one using my windows xp computer. However, before anything can be displayed it immediatley logs off to the logon screen. I click my username and start the login process (i have no password and before even switching to my wallpaper or anything it says stuff like logging out and saving your settings.
I tried booting in safe mode too and the same infinite logon loop occured to, even with the default administrator account. The last thing I remember doing before this happened is I was playing City of Heroes when it crashed forcing me to restart my computer. This happens occasionally in certain programs but I've never had anything like this happen before. I tried unplugging my keyboard, mouse, usb devices, ethernet cable, no luck. Intel Pentium 4 1.7 ghz Geforce 5600 FX 256 mb windows xp home service pack 1, in case any of that matters
I've seen another post somewhere and someone else had this problem, but I haven't found a solution. We're using WXP Pro, SP2. After doing a repair install (the other person just had it after using Windows Update), at logon, after entering the correct, AND VALID, password either for a user Or the Administrator, Windows Logon displays the following Logon Message in a box: "!The system cannot log you on due to the following error: "The program issued a command but the command length is incorrect. "Please try again or consult your administrator."
No matter how many times logon is attempted, or with what account, the message continues to be issued. Thus, NO ONE can logon to the GUI. The Recovery Console can be used to logon as Administrator, but no password is requested even though there is one in place. I've searched the MSKB but didn't find any reference. Implementing "Last known good configuration" does not fix the problem.
When i boot up the system hangs at the blue 'Windows xp' screen, the 'Windows is starting' is missing and it goes no further, the logon screen does not appear so i can't get in. I have recovery console on and i can get into the drive by booting in from another drive/operating system
View 1 Replies View Relatedi remote into my XP box everything is fine except when i shut down using a shutdown shortcut and other shutdown utilities no matter what after i get booted off the remote session the computer looks like its shutting down then stays on for a few seconds then a BSOD appear. I have been trying to figure out why for the past week and no solution so im hoping someone can chime in..The problem is only on remote if i shut down locally never a single BSOD and no hardware has changed. View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is weird. I have to go through the shutdown procedure twice, i.e., Start/Shut Down/Shut Down and click Ok, then Start/Shut Down/Shut Down and click Ok again. It will then shutdown properly. The same thing happens when I try to "Restart." After doing the first shutdown sequence, everything is normal. I can open programs, surf the web, etc. It's as if I never tried to shut it down at all. Only after the second shutdown procedure will it shutdown fully. One note: When I go through the first shutdown sequence, my taskbar pops up and the desktop is darkened. After clicking Ok, the taskbar autohides and my desktop returns to its normal color.I have only had this problem for the last month or two. Before that, all was fine. I just spent a number of hours getting rid of Trojan.desktophijack.B and Trojan.popuper, and now i cant get my windows xp theme off of "windows classic." i can select the theme but when i go to "windows and buttons" all that is available is "windows classic style." how do i fix this? i find it ironic that i can manually clean a registry but changing themes is beyond me.

I've tried applying the theme with StyleXP, but it wasn't compatible with my build of XP. I've also tried using TuneUp Utilities Styler, but that didn't help either. I've checked Taskbar->Properties->Start Menu, and it was set to "Windows XP", not classic
cant get the xp theme back on my system after removing a virus and using the restore feature on my xp cd. I did notice that my theme changed to the windows classic style while dealing with the virus. The virus changed my theme to classic and added a webpage as my background picture so I think that was the cause. What should I do to fix this problem of not being able to change my theme to xp.
Ps. The theme is available but when I choose it all it does is it changes my background picture and colors but my buttons and windows stay classic.

My Windows XP now had the Windows ME theme. I try changing it but does not work. The Windows XP option does not appear. Hre is what I did that might have affected it:
1) I downloaded The "Vista Transformation Pack"
2) I restarted my computer after installing.
3) It did not work, so I decided to uninstall i.
4) After that, I restarted my computer and the windows xp them was gone.
After doing some maintenance on my computer, simply removing old unused programs through the "add / remove programs" option in 'control panel', I lost my ability to have any XP based theme. While I was doing the cleanup a few programs asked me to restart or continue, I selected continue until I was done removing all of the programs that I no longer needed or used...
