View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer crashed about a month ago and I had to use a recovery disc to restore my original system.. Everything works fine except when I boot up and following the Sony logo and Intel logo the following message appears "Press F11 for Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. Acronis fatal error Boot drive (partition) not found. Press Enter to try to boot your PC." Pressing enter boots up the PC fine but how can I eliminate the process? I had Acronis on both drives before the crash but it no longer exists.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI get a little confused by terms like restore vs recovery, which are often interchanged incorrectly IMO -and then there are the terms bootable disc and startup disc, which can also get confusing - and I have seen other terms used also.
please explain exactly what you mean by the "bootable XP CD". I have a new XPsp2 home edition pc, and I had a millennium before that (which I made a "startup disc" for in add/remove programs - so I guess a startup disc is yet another term for boot disc - it was only a 3-1/2" diskette (less than a meg), and it would get my millennium to boot by typing "scanreg /restore" at a prompt that you eventually came to.
For my XP, I immediately made a Compaq "recovery dvd" (it took 2-dvd's) utilizing the "Compaq recovery cd-dvd creator" in start/programs/pc tools. This dvd (can also use cd's but it takes 8 or 9 cd's I believe) contains everything that is on the pc (from the factory), and which is also in the system recovery partition D:. There is also something called a "Recovery Tools CD", which I did not burn, since it did not seem necessary, after
reading about it in the "troubleshooting and system recovery guide" that came with my Compaq. I will burn that one to, if you can explain what it will do, that I can't ultimately achieve by using the "recovery dvd". The manual said that one of the things the "recovery tools cd" did was to remove the system recovery partition (drive D), so you could use it - but I'm sure there is another way of doing that from within the pc once you got it running using the recovery dvd - am I right - I've never messed around with partitioning, since I have no need to.
My new XP did not come with any "bootable CD" per se, and I made the "recovery dvd", as stated above. So please shed some light on what the "bootable XP CD" is that you refer to (because you said that a "restore Cd is really overkill" - I assume you mean the "recovery CD" that I mentioned). Also please provide your comments on the "recovery tools CD", and any other comments you have on the various terminologies I have mentioned above.
Hoping to avoid a full reinstall of Windows XP, I'd like to try some repair procedures. The problem is, when I launch my "Vaio PCV-RS430G" recovery disc it goes straight to Sony's proprietary recovery interface which provides ONLY the preset option to wipe my 'c' drive and reinstall Windows. According to some MS articles I've read, an XP recovery disc should allow me to access the Windows Recovery Console (by typing "R" at the welcome screen). Can anyone suggest how I can bypass the Sony recovery and get to the Windows Recovery Console?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI used the recovery program (made by softthinks) for my HP compaq nc8430, to make one set of DVDs in case i would need those. Then, the program didn't work anymore because it set a limit to the times you could make the disks.I went around this problem using the ResetRMC program. The fact is that now I need to make again another set, because the second one have holes in them (will never again buy cheap DVD for backup!).I tried to use a solution, which i found on the internet: to delete the HPCD.sys file which sets the limit, but the only outcome was that , since then, the program does ask me to burn CD, it tells that my computer hasn't got any DVD burner. How can i solve this?

I am looking to reformat my Compaq Presario V5002EA laptop with windows XP home edition SP3. Having read various forums it seems there should be an option in my 'Start > All Programs' menu to begin a system recovery program. Within this program there should be an option to create a set of Recovery Discs from which I could do the reformat.
I can't find this option anywhere on the computer and would prefer not to fork out 31 to HP if I can create the discs myself! Can someone please tell me how to find the Recovery Disc Creator?

So I called Emachines and they told me to download a chipset for "Intel 845GV" I tried looking for that, but I don't know what I'm looking for. I have successfully networked the two with a crossover cable but I thought I'd reboot the old one to clear it from all the stuff I had on it. When I start the PC up with the recovery disk in either the D or E drive it doesn't get recognized and just goes strait to the user page. Any ideas on how I can get round this? I can enter the set up stage by pressing Del but i'm a bit green on this!

However, I came to find out you can only have one computer assigned to each cd, unless I wanna buy another one, which is unecessary. I wanted to get rid of Vista and return to XP but the XP disc would not install because of multiple errors, such as missing ntldr.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a 74G western digital raptor drive and want to use it as my system drive, however, I have the PERFECT installation of windows (XP Pro) on my current system drive (a mostly full 320G sata drive).Make the raptor be bootable/system drive, basically move the install of windows (documents and setting folder, windows folder, program files folder, MBR/all system files and folders) to the new raptor and then re-assign the raptor to be drive C (so all references would be correct). The windows install I currently have is ancient but perfect, and I dont have the discs for many of the programs on the system (TONS OF THEM). So I really want to avoid re-installing windows (the obvious way to do this). I also cant use Norton ghost because the old drive has 280G of stuff and the raptor is only 74G.Is this possible? If so are there and tools/hints that could help me?
