No Data - Printer Print Blank Paper
Dec 3, 2004My printer puts out blank paper whenever I request a print from Microsoft Word, Wordpad, or note pad. I cannot do a command prompt. Everything is fine with internet outlook express. Printer does a self check very well.

I had to do a clean reinstall of my operating system on xp pro.Now I've right clicked on my printer on xp home entered the printers name as printer 1. When I go to my other computer and run the wizard I get a box come up saying printer and underneath a larger box.What have I got to put in the printer box my printer is a Lexmark X1100 Series.In the lower box this is where I have had printer names appearing in the past although mine was'ent there I am now getting 'Microsoft windows network' coming up.When i click on the next button I get 'you need to specify a valid printer name.

Jan 26, 2005Running WindowsXP with SP2. Word 2003. OE6. IE6. Have HP 1210 all-in-one and Canon BJC2010. Both work fine. Problem when I wish to print a document, or e-mail text, or whatever, and click on ctrl+P, or use File menu, or whatever, I always get the printer I do not want to use. I use the HP for scanning and copying, particularly in color, and prefer the Canon for regular printing from Word or OE or IE. But somehow each time, I get the HP rather than the Canon. Now on the window for printing they always have a list of options, so this is not a crisis, just a request to lower the nuisance titre a bit. There should be a place to go to select a default printer.

Unable To Re-size The Taskbar?
May 22, 2008I recently had to re-install WXP on my computer. The task bar at the bottom of the screen is the normal size (if there is a normal) but when I actived Quick Launch so icons would appear in the taskbar, it doubled in size. The icons adjacent to the Start button are lined up horizantally but the icons in the system try are in groups. I have tried re-sizing the taskbar by placing the cursor on the upper edge where a up and down arrow appears but I cannot drag the taskbar down to make it smaller. I deactivated quick launch, locked the task bar and then re-actived quick launch but it still increases is size. Can anyone tell me how to resolve this issue?

After Deleting Icon Had Paper In The Recycle Bin There Were Files
Dec 27, 2007I finally need to update to Vista. My PC still works well, it's just been having some problems lately. Anyway, The reason for this thread is because something bizarre happened. I had just sent 2 or 3 files to the Recycle Bin. Then I right-clicked it and hit "Empty Recycle Bin". It deleted the files; that's all well and fine. Then I noticed, that after I deleted them, the icon had paper in the bin like there were files in it. So I opened it and saw nothing. I closed that and saw the icon still said there were files in it. So I right-clicked, hit "Empty Recycle Bin", then saw the same old "Are you sure you want to delete (insert file)?" message. Instinctively, I hit "Yes" and started reading what file it was while clicking it. BAM. The file was I thought for sure my PC was screwed for good. But I checked in "HP_PAVILION C" and it was still there, I looked again at the "Recycle Bin" and everything was fine.

Dec 29, 2008I was working when my system seemed to go a bit crazy, bunch of windows opened up and told me that my virus protection was not working etc.. I closed them all and ran a quick scan with Symtec to see if I had somehow picked up a virus. Decided to reboot. When I restarted the computer I had this strange circle going on. It goes thru a normal bootup, and when it is loading the tray, it starts going in a circle. Starts loading up programs and then restarts and then restarts etc. Most of the time, after 3 or 4 times it ends with just the wall paper visable. Now, at this point the computer seems ok, I can run most any program by starting them in Task Manager ( applications, new task etc...). In fact that is how I signed up for this forum and wrote the note. BUT I cannot get the desktop back. The only way is to run Windows Explorer, via task manager, then you get it back, but it does the circle thing continously. IF you can get a program started during the part of the circle where icons etc are visable, then it will run. SO, I tried doing a restore, went back one day and ran the restore. Seemed to run normally. BUT the symptoms are the same ( now it was close to midnight, so I should have gone back farther). NOW, when I tried to go and do another restore, to go back farther, the restore program runs normally, except it will not let me choose a day. Shows many possible days and the help runs etc.. the buttons "push" but nothing happens.

Virus Cleaning - Unable To Reinstall The Printer
Aug 4, 2009Recently my Dell Dimension 4600 became badly infected. Malwarebytes antimalware and Spybot Search and Destroy now declare my PC virus free, but I have one artifact of the infection. Control panel as well as my software no longer sees my HP8450 printer. This problem first appeared when I was infected, this did not occur during or after cleaning. HP's online troubleshooter does not solve the problem. Further, I am unable to reinstall the printer; I have the original install CD and when prompted, Windows install wizard doesn't recognize the files on the CD. Trying a version of the software downloaded from HP's website, the install sees the device but cannot complete the install. I can't uninstall the printer because Control Panel doesn't recognize it as being installed. The printer is connected via USB cable and all of my other USB devices (mouse, keyboard, external hard drive) all work as they should. The printer was fully operational before the virus infections (Virtumonde.prx and Win32.TDSS.rtk).

May 29, 2008We have our own printer driver which basically prints any document to our application (just like Adobe). Our installer creates a named printer port in HKEY_LOACL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTPorts (eg. OurPort). We stop the spooler service and then start it too to refresh the list of ports.
Then we create the printer by running this command from within installer.
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /b "Our Printer Name" /f "Path of the inf file" /r "OurPort" /m "Printer driver name" /Z
Once all this is done, we try printing any document to this printer we created and it does print in our application. But this happens only when the logged on user is either admin or a power user.
When we try to login with a local user, and he tries to print a document to our application via our printer, it fails. We can see the document in the printing queue but it shows error-printing.
Deleted All Preferences - Wall Paper No Icons Except Recycle Bin
Mar 19, 2010I seem to have deleted all my preferences from windows. I was trying to get rid of a virus, maybe this is the virus. When I booted up today I was welcomed by a default wall paper no icons except recycle bin. No files on the desktop, no saved emails, no browser preferences, actually no preference for any program they're all gone. If any thing where did all the files from my desk top go?

The machine will go through the motions of allowing a change then call for the required reboot when I changed the file size, but after reboot, the old file size is unchanged.
