During my network troubleshooting, I was checking my NIC configuration on my desktop to make sure that file and print sharing was enabled and realized that there is nothing installed, no clients, services, or protocols. When I try to install I got an error message that the file could not be found. This is strange because I get access to the internet. Is this possible?Could this be the reason my laptop cannot access the desktop? How I fix this?

After clicking on the selected updates to download (only the critical ones), the updates start to download, but then a notice that says the updates were "unable to be successfully installed". There is no reason for this given and no other error message. This happened to me in Feb. and I was able to google the error message Windows update gave me. The solution involved going into DOS & clearing something, but I can't remember what it was or where I found the instructions to do it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRunning WindowsXP with SP2. Word 2003. OE6. IE6. Have HP 1210 all-in-one and Canon BJC2010. Both work fine. Problem when I wish to print a document, or e-mail text, or whatever, and click on ctrl+P, or use File menu, or whatever, I always get the printer I do not want to use. I use the HP for scanning and copying, particularly in color, and prefer the Canon for regular printing from Word or OE or IE. But somehow each time, I get the HP rather than the Canon. Now on the window for printing they always have a list of options, so this is not a crisis, just a request to lower the nuisance titre a bit. There should be a place to go to select a default printer.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP SP2 on my laptop. I have been using an Epson C66 printer with this laptop for about 2 years. I recently had a problem with the printer so I went through the troubleshooter process and was instructed to contact Epson. I did, and when I sent the error script that I receive, they told me to contact Microsoft. I have been searching the articles for patches, fixes, etc but am not having any luck. When I try to reinstall the printer (with the printer cd or manually), the installation appears to be going through and copying files and then I get a message that the installation can not finish. The error script says: "The I/O operation has been aborted due to a thread exit or an application request."

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get my Canon IP8500 printer to work with my Samsung NC20 netbook which is running Windows XP.Usually I simply plug the printer into any Windows XP computer and it'll automatically install the necessary drivers. However, when I plug it into my netbook and instruct Windows XP to automatically search/find and install the drivers, it can't find any.So I've gone onto the Canon website and manually downloaded the drivers, but when I try to install them via the setup.exe it says that a newer driver is already installed, and aborts the setup. The weird thing is that there definitely isn't a driver already installed, because I've even gone into device manager and uninstalled the printer/driver before trying again.

I have the same problem that several other people have posted here, where I want anyone who logs into that computer to be able to use its locally-connected HP PhotoSmart 7900 color inkjet printer. But when XP is connected to a Windows domain, nobody who doesn't have administrator rights to the computer can install the printer; besides that, I really don't want to have to get involved every time somebody who's never used that computer before suddenly wants to print on it.

Recently my Dell Dimension 4600 became badly infected. Malwarebytes antimalware and Spybot Search and Destroy now declare my PC virus free, but I have one artifact of the infection. Control panel as well as my software no longer sees my HP8450 printer. This problem first appeared when I was infected, this did not occur during or after cleaning. HP's online troubleshooter does not solve the problem. Further, I am unable to reinstall the printer; I have the original install CD and when prompted, Windows install wizard doesn't recognize the files on the CD. Trying a version of the software downloaded from HP's website, the install sees the device but cannot complete the install. I can't uninstall the printer because Control Panel doesn't recognize it as being installed. The printer is connected via USB cable and all of my other USB devices (mouse, keyboard, external hard drive) all work as they should. The printer was fully operational before the virus infections (Virtumonde.prx and Win32.TDSS.rtk).

View 11 Replies View RelatedWe have our own printer driver which basically prints any document to our application (just like Adobe). Our installer creates a named printer port in HKEY_LOACL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTPorts (eg. OurPort). We stop the spooler service and then start it too to refresh the list of ports.
Then we create the printer by running this command from within installer.
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /b "Our Printer Name" /f "Path of the inf file" /r "OurPort" /m "Printer driver name" /Z
Once all this is done, we try printing any document to this printer we created and it does print in our application. But this happens only when the logged on user is either admin or a power user.
When we try to login with a local user, and he tries to print a document to our application via our printer, it fails. We can see the document in the printing queue but it shows error-printing.
We've just purchased a new laptop and would like to be able to print from our Lexmark printer (attached to a desktop pc) that is in another room. All attempts to "add another printer" have been futile. I can't seem to locate a printer when I "browse" for one and have no idea what the URL is for our Lexmark.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer had been running fine, but I was using Mcafee and I hated it, so I uninstalled it. Without having any antivirus software to replace it with right away. So, about a week later (aka today), my dad was helping me install a new printer when everything went crazy. It was taking forever for my computer to boot up, and then after it was 'ready' it was incredibly slow. Then it would go to a blue screen with some text on it (I wish I had written down what it said, but I didn't-something about an infection detected) and we would shut it down manually. Finally, we were able to restore the computer to an earlier date. The printer is no longer installed, but I think I still have a virus.
I just installed avast, which during a reboot it did a scan where I had lots of infected files, and several options as to what to do with them. A few of them were temporary internet files, and not thinking, I hit delete. I realized this was a bad idea, and for the infected files after that, I selected "move to chest."
I'm not sure where to go from here. A lot of them are c:system volume information\_restore... which might have something to do with why my speakers aren't working.
