Can someone tell me what size computer i need to install xp, Im mucking with a computer my son was given, its a 3 gig and has 32 meg of ram, I know that it wont fit on there, but wondering if it was worth upgrading it

When I was installing it it told me all other data etc would be los I said ok etc. After the install I see the C drive is almost full at 7.93 GB. Is this how much XP takes up? View 14 Replies View RelatedI had installed RegCure last night and then uninstalled it since it wasn't working properly.This morning when I turned on my computer, I found out my system font has changed dramatically.The font appears to be a spin off of WingDings, but I can't tell. I can get on the internet and IM no problem, but as for finding something on my start menu, or trying to navigate to my system preferences is an impossibility.Also, on the internet and IM, everything is bold and the font is larger.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have finally decided to put my screen settings to 1024-768 or what ever that one is lol .. but my only problem now is the font size.. for example up top of this page where it says file,edit, view etc..is really small and same as the name thats down on my bar at the bottom of my screen where my open windows are they are really small and I want to make them bigger how do I do that? also .. my quick launch icons are super small can I make them bigger? I made the ones on my desktop bigger but can't figure out how to make the quick launch ones bigger.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am using an elderly 3M LCD projection panel on an overhead prjector for big screen Tv, driven by XP pro SP3. The panel has no controls for vertical/horizontal size and whatever monitor is used, an OS desktop fills the screen by default. I can resize the window for the TV viewing program in the normal way,just filling my projection screen, but the XP desktop is far too large.Does anyone know of a way to change the physical size of the desktop (including the taskbar) so that it sits in the LCD screen with a blank border all around, or maybe even make it custom resizeable as in a program window ( without changing the resolution)?

I am looking to upgrade to a new MB for less than $100, $50 if possible (I can buy used from eBay, Amazon, whatever). Also I have no clue how to replace a MB, and if it is possible, I don't want to lose my data. I have a legit copy of XP Pro, but I don't have the disk, because I got the computer used. Eventually I want to dual boot with Linux, but I can figure that out later.

Either at the "welcome" screen or after choosing a profile, it says: "Loading your personalized settings" and this takes about a minute or two, which isn't that bad, but right after it loads that up, my desktop appears, and my icons don't show up until about 5-10 mins, which is very unusual. Whenever I boot my computer, I am given the choice between the older install of Windows and my new, stable install of Windows. All the instructions say is that it requires "A Windows XP Home CD".Is there a significant difference if I used a CD that had no service packs installed on it to repair an SP2 system? Or a Pro CD, since I have Home edition installed? Or a "XP HOME OEM WITH SP2 NEW & SEALED!" disc, as one seller puts it -- What's the difference that the OEM qualifier makes, and is it relevant to a repair operation?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI did something while moving some pictures to the "windows web wallpaper folder "Yesterday I went to change the desktop picture and was met with a choice of hundreds of pics.I have checked the registry and it points to "windows web wallpaper folder ", I can not figure out why so many files are now showing up when I want to change the wallpaper.Most are from various places in "My Pictures " But some are elsewhere.Its crazy there must be two hundred of them showing up as wallpaper choices ..I need to know if anyone can help me figure out how to sort this out.

The second value is always larger. I went onto Crucial Technology's website, and it said I needed a:512MB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC3200 memory module, Can someone direct me to what would be compatible on eBay or Newegg.com because i have no idea of what I should buy. I am now using the service pack 2 firewall that is on by default as my primary firewall now because it seems to be improved from the original windows xp firewall (ICF).Before I installed SP2, I was using zone alarm as my firewall, and recently upgraded to version 6. After upgrading it, I noticed that it was accessing my hard drive a lot more than usual and taking up resources so I checked the zone alarm forums and noticed how a lot of other people were having issues with it so I got rid of it.

When i rebooted with windows CD, i re-installed winXP.What happened is that i had the regular win install on drive C:, and another win XP install on drive D:formatted the D: drive, to delete the bad installation.
My problem is that, whenever i start up my computer, just after booting, it brings me to the Operating System Choosing screen, where you need to choose which OS you wanna boot. The first one is the normal windows which i use, the second option im guessing was made with the corrupted installation, and appears even after i formatted drive D
