I recently purchased a "Black Friday" Compaq laptop (Compaq v5303nr)and so far every things great, but I really want to upgrade my RAM for speed and playing basic games. I went onto Crucial Technology's website, and it said I needed a:512MB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC3200 memory module, Can someone direct me to what would be compatible on eBay or Newegg.com because i have no idea of what I should buy. Would any 200-pin memory card work? And do I really need to spend the extra money on a 1 GB, or will a 512 be good?
Until recently there were a large number of Windows operating systems for sale on ebay. Particularly Win XP Pro OEM versions at reasonable prices. I purchased one several months ago, and it came in a sealed package, with COA and that beautiful CD. I finally got around to installing it on a new build, activated like a champ. But when I went to download some security updates it went berserk...THIS IS COUNTERFEIT, blah, blah. So I mailed it off to MS WGA. Now there are very few OSs listed on ebay. Could someone fill me in on what happened, and did MS make good on their offer to replace the fraudulent system with a good one? Also, how come it activated if it was counterfeit?
Im having problems signing into websites such as eBay and Hotmail and i can't signin to MSN Messenger. I've already deleted temporary internet files and installed internet explorer 7 and mozilla firefox and nothing works
Yesterday all my ebay listings disappeared. cant find them anywhere. I have been listing for a number of years and this has never happened before? All listings had time left, days not hours. Ebay are no help atall. Any one out there got a solution.
My notebook Sony Vaio VGN-TXN15P (Windows XP) does not allow me to do anything on Ebay. Almost at each step it carries me to the "Guest page" to enter my name and passward. Moving from one page to another in "My Ebay", trying to place a bid, trying to see my items foe sale, etc.I tried to activate cookies or to reduce level of protection/security.
I love MF but I cannot use it because I sell on Ebay and it won't let me use any of the tools for formating. Fonts, color etc. and I need that for description purposes. So I guess I will have to go back to IE and fight all the crap unless someone has another suggestion. I have Windows xp home edition.
I changed from road runner to sbc. now my computer tell me that this page can not be displayed every time I go in Ebay or bank site. I thought it was my computer until my lap top (wireless) started the same thing.
I have a six year old dell. old installation of Windows XP is damaged beyond repair so I will have to reinstall it.I have the dell serial number, service tag number, and most of the other relevant information. I even have the original Windows XP license key number printed on a label on the side of my computer.the one thing that I do not have is the Windows XP installation disk. What is the best way to resolve this?I have seen XP disks for sale on ebay craigslist. Can I purchase one of those and install it on my old computer? If I do that should I get a new license key from them or do I use my old one.
I've misplaced my Compaq Armada M700 quick restore CD. This CD came with a quick restore option of either Windows NT or Windows 2000. Obviously I've installed Windows 2000. I came across this ebay item. What do you guys think? Is this any good? If so, will the restore option install Windows XP instead of the Window 2000 that I currently have running?
I have recently assemled a new computer. It has Intel Pentium D Processor 805. Now when I am trying to install XP on my computer it says that my hdd doenst have windows compatible partion & I need to partition again. I have tried deleting the partion & creating a new one & I still get the same error. I have formatted the hdd in fat32 & NTFS still I am getting the same error. PC specs are listed in profile. As you can tell, I have much less than the state of the art computer. I am looking to upgrade to a new MB for less than $100, $50 if possible (I can buy used from eBay, Amazon, whatever). Also I have no clue how to replace a MB, and if it is possible, I don't want to lose my data. I have a legit copy of XP Pro, but I don't have the disk, because I got the computer used. Eventually I want to dual boot with Linux, but I can figure that out later.
I am getting ready to buy my first laptop computer and don't have a clue as to what I should be looking for....my home computer is a Dell, and I am somewhat happy with it, but I have noticed that the Dell's laptops are quite expensive...more so than the other brands....I am looking for something not higher than $1,600...I have ruled out Gateway, as I have heard too many horror stories...especially with their customer service.

While trying to upgrade from Windows 98SE to XP professional I get a compatibility message that says upgrade is blocked because my HPT366 ultra ATA/66 IDE controller is not compatible. Is there anything I can do, such as a driver upgrade?
Does anyone know how to bring up the option to boot from HDD1, HDD2, Floppy etc during the post or slightly after post?I know how to do it on DELL machines. Shift+F12. Well some of them, I won't claim I've used all Dell Systems..I'm running WinXPHome on an Asus MOBO.I've done it before, quite by accident I assure you.But since then I cannot duplicate the feature.BTW: I am not talking about booting into safemode, or the command prompt. This is the start-up menu, correct?
I just bought the Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade With Service Pack 2, and I just got done setting everything up and I just defragged my (C drive. Either at the "welcome" screen or after choosing a profile, it says: "Loading your personalized settings" and this takes about a minute or two, which isn't that bad, but right after it loads that up, my desktop appears, and my icons don't show up until about 5-10 mins, which is very unusual. If I click Start, it hangs up.It doesn't freeze, 'cause I can still move the mouse
I had a crippling virus that forced me to re-install Windows XP. Whenever I boot my computer, I am given the choice between the older install of Windows and my new, stable install of Windows. Is there a way to bypass this so that my machine always boots with the stable version of Windows so that I am not always having to choose? Thanks for any replies.
Recently I have had to use the Recovery Disc to fix my Broken Boot.ini file. (with help from this forum, thank god)But now when I turn on my computer it requests that I choose out of Three Operating Systems. Is there any way that I can make it so that it by default chooses the correct operating system so I can skip that screen.I have a little brother and sister that use the computer, so when they see that screen they panic.
So just recently whenever i try downloading anything, when i click run it asks me to choose a program and i dont know what to do. For instance i tried to download the Photoshop free trial but once it tells me to choose a program i don't know what to do.
My Systemax PC with Windows XP Home SP2 pre-installed is suffering [can't copy/paste, can't use Windows Update, "Network Service" svchost.exe using 50% CPU...], and I thought I'd try a repair as mentioned in this stickied thread, but I'm not sure if which Windows CD I buy off of eBay will make a difference. All the instructions say is that it requires "A Windows XP Home CD".Is there a significant difference if I used a CD that had no service packs installed on it to repair an SP2 system? Or a Pro CD, since I have Home edition installed? Or a "XP HOME OEM WITH SP2 NEW & SEALED!" disc, as one seller puts it -- What's the difference that the OEM qualifier makes, and is it relevant to a repair operation?
I did something while moving some pictures to the "windows web wallpaper folder "Yesterday I went to change the desktop picture and was met with a choice of hundreds of pics.I have checked the registry and it points to "windows web wallpaper folder ", I can not figure out why so many files are now showing up when I want to change the wallpaper. Most are from various places in "My Pictures " But some are elsewhere. Its crazy there must be two hundred of them showing up as wallpaper choices ..I need to know if anyone can help me figure out how to sort this out.
I am leslie, i have a win xp 32 bit, intel pentium 2 and a nvidia 8400gs. is there a display driver out there for the most stability and performance and dont ask me to download the newest drivers caused the new drivers caused even more problems and my old driver, even though my old drivers are stable but has VERY low frame rates for dota.

How do you know which DVD burners are compatible with your laptop? According to Dell, my laptop can only use a Dell burner. I was just wondering if they were lying to me. Or am I just better off getting an external one.
Can someone tell me what size computer i need to install xp, Im mucking with a computer my son was given, its a 3 gig and has 32 meg of ram, I know that it wont fit on there, but wondering if it was worth upgrading it
I'm running Windows XP Pro and when booting up i get the option of choosing two operating systems for some reason? Is there a way to get rid of one of them (i know only one works) or to change the 30 secs it gives you to choose which OS to use?
Athlon 64 Presario, Win/XP Which key do you hold down at startup to see the boot order? F8 doesn't do it on my machine. If there's a clone of my hd in the slave position I can choose it to boot up, can't I? Just want the option next time I mess up my OS.
