My boss has two laptops both toshiba his older one a satellite 1110 his daughter had being using and was full of junk he asked me to run the restore disk ive used the wrong disc I now have the corredt discs to hand including the windows xp start up. I also dowloaded a 6 disc floppy boot up for xp but cant get the laptop to boot into anything . Ive been into the bios and set and tried booting from both options but all i get is a screen giving me the option to start in safe mode and last know configuration when i choose safe mode i get a page of geek all starting with multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1) WindowsSystem32Drivers all with different logs all ending in.
got a toshiba laptop approximatley 3 years old. His keyboard is 101/102 and working correctly in the control panal, however, the @ sign is in the wrong place as is the " and i can't find the sign at all, i'm sure we used to move these at work for a joke but i can't find out how to do it. Just to clarify the print on the buttons of the keyboard isn't what it type when you press the buttons @ = shift 2 " = shift 'if i go into character maps it shows them in the above places but i can't amend
I have a TOSHIBA SATELLITE A100 LAPTOP. PART NUMBER, PSAA8C-SK800E. It is not even a year old however i want to do a clean install of WINDOWS XP. The problem is, He nor I, never recieved a RECOVERY DVD when he originaly got this laptop last september. The laptop is still under warrenty until september 15th 2007, i just need to know how or where to get the recovery dvd. I searched the toshiba site, but i dont know where or what to do or go.

laptop is about to get a bit of an overhaul. Extra RAM should be here tomorrow then I'm gonna wipe it and reinstall XP. It's an Equium A60 as far as I can work out (similar/same as a Satellite A60?) running XP home. She can't find the recovery disk (if it even has one?) and I only have XP Pro, Can I use my XP pro the same way as I would on a normal desktop? Stick the CD in and boot from it to install a fresh OS? Is there anything I need to look out for on a laptop?
I tried to install the Recovery System, from the original disc, onto a 2-year-old Gateway laptop, but appartently the TrayApp file (whatever that is) on the disc is corrupted. I can't get a new disc because Gateway no longer carries them. What else can I use? Can I buy a Windows XP (the original OS) update and install that? Can I use the recovery disc from another brand of computer, like Dell?

My packard bell notebook model (easynote) E-3242 running windows XP. After installing SP2, XP wont load, even in safe mode. I already used cd-bootable Knoppix to copy all documents i needed to rescue. At this point a complete Re-install would be great, but alas, no install disk came with this notebook, And i lost the recovery discs i made. I do NOT have any XP disc available.How can I begin a re-install or similiar from the Hardisk with no Discs?
I get a little confused by terms like restore vs recovery, which are often interchanged incorrectly IMO -and then there are the terms bootable disc and startup disc, which can also get confusing - and I have seen other terms used also.
please explain exactly what you mean by the "bootable XP CD". I have a new XPsp2 home edition pc, and I had a millennium before that (which I made a "startup disc" for in add/remove programs - so I guess a startup disc is yet another term for boot disc - it was only a 3-1/2" diskette (less than a meg), and it would get my millennium to boot by typing "scanreg /restore" at a prompt that you eventually came to.
For my XP, I immediately made a Compaq "recovery dvd" (it took 2-dvd's) utilizing the "Compaq recovery cd-dvd creator" in start/programs/pc tools. This dvd (can also use cd's but it takes 8 or 9 cd's I believe) contains everything that is on the pc (from the factory), and which is also in the system recovery partition D:. There is also something called a "Recovery Tools CD", which I did not burn, since it did not seem necessary, after reading about it in the "troubleshooting and system recovery guide" that came with my Compaq. I will burn that one to, if you can explain what it will do, that I can't ultimately achieve by using the "recovery dvd". The manual said that one of the things the "recovery tools cd" did was to remove the system recovery partition (drive D), so you could use it - but I'm sure there is another way of doing that from within the pc once you got it running using the recovery dvd - am I right - I've never messed around with partitioning, since I have no need to.
My new XP did not come with any "bootable CD" per se, and I made the "recovery dvd", as stated above. So please shed some light on what the "bootable XP CD" is that you refer to (because you said that a "restore Cd is really overkill" - I assume you mean the "recovery CD" that I mentioned). Also please provide your comments on the "recovery tools CD", and any other comments you have on the various terminologies I have mentioned above.
Hoping to avoid a full reinstall of Windows XP, I'd like to try some repair procedures. The problem is, when I launch my "Vaio PCV-RS430G" recovery disc it goes straight to Sony's proprietary recovery interface which provides ONLY the preset option to wipe my 'c' drive and reinstall Windows. According to some MS articles I've read, an XP recovery disc should allow me to access the Windows Recovery Console (by typing "R" at the welcome screen). Can anyone suggest how I can bypass the Sony recovery and get to the Windows Recovery Console?
Hi, yes, I did something really stupid! I was having major issues with laptop and as a last resort decided to reinstall Windows [should have been Vista]. However, I have two Dell Inspiron laptops and apparently used the wrong disc! I installed Windows XP. Now I have no internet as the Ethernet driver, and a few others, are showing errors. I looked in Device Manager etc and about 8 or 9 drivers were not installed. Oh, and the correct Windows disc is in US with my computer wiz son, and I'm over in UK! So . . . . is there anyway to install the missing drivers? Or even get Dell or Microsoft to help me get the correct version of Windows to reinstall? I have internet access on my mini Dell, and also on my desktop - which does have CD writer etc if I needed to download files. Or can that be done on memory stick?
I need to reinstall Windows XP, but I don't have the disk. I can't even remember if I got one. I have the Toshiba recovery disk. Do Toshiba include the normal Windows cd? I've torn the house apart looking for it. I found all the other stuff that came with my laptop, but not that.Will the recovery disk do the same thing? If not, is it possible to use an XP installer cd from another computer?
My friend has a computer he bought 2 years ago which has a dvd player in it. He did not realize the player was also a dvd burner. I bought a blank dvd from Walgreens and tried to burn a dvd data disc. An error message came up which said the disc was the wrong media. Is it possible the disc is made for newer drives and I need a slower media or something? What do I look for?
My computer has just crashed, and i just found out that i have lost the Toshiba Recovery CD. Apparently, according to my dad's computer friend, there are 'some sites' that provide downloads of a "boot file" that is able to recover the Windows Operating system. i honestly think that is just bogus

A few days ago I had to do a recovery to restore my laptop to the way it was when it left the factory. When I had finished the recovery and everything was working, the computer started to gradually get slower and slower the longer it was being used for. It eventually gets to the point where everything freezes and all windows or programs show "Not Responding" and it takes ages to close them down. When the computer is restarted, it is fine for a while, then gradually the same thing happens. I noticed the the CPU usage was over 50% while the computer was doing nothing except running. Please someone give me some idea of what's wrong,
i have 2 computers both gateways.one is a e-4200 xp home edition and the other is a 819 gm xp media center. i took the recovery disk from the media center and put it on my e-4200 computer thinking it would speed it up. well i was wrong. and now i want to take it off and i don't no how .i have been working on it for 2 days and i am still at the same spot where i was when i started. does any one no what i can do to resolve this probleam. i do not have the recovery disk for the e-4200 computer to restore it back .
I'm currently on the phone with my sister. She has a Toshiba laptop that only once in a blue moon will boot into windows so she decided to reformat it.She put in the Toshiba recovery DVD and its definitely booting up from the DVD but shortly after the loading message comes up she says she gets a blue screen saying something about plug and play.I tried searching goggle for errors about the recovery DVD but nothing that seems to connect to her problem. there is nothing connected to it.
I have an old Toshiba laptop. I bougth a laptop enclosure for this 2.5 size. In order to fit the enclosure I had to remove a bracet that was needed for the laptop. After removing it, I inserted it into the ide connector of that enclosure...fine, but I cannot close the enclosure the way it should. It misses by an 1'16 or 1'8 of an inch. Looking at the hd ( IBM ) it has a metal cover with 6 screws. It has all the specs of that hd. Its possible It may fit of I remove it, but I do not know if that is wise to the hd.
I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite A85-S107. 40 gig harddrive. 1.4GHz processor. 256 megs ram.
A system check using MSinfo32 indicates that I only have 16 megs ofavailable physical memory and only about half of the 512 mb virtualmemory available. The shared video card takes the RAM down to 191 megs. Even when I disable every single file under Startup (msconfig)it only raises the available memory to about 26 mb. So, with virtually nothing running I have about a 75 percent memory load. Can this possibly all be attributed to Windows XP?
I realize there are other processes running in the background but I am not sure how and what to do about them. And virtualy all of them seems to be windows files. Should I just add another 256 mb of ram and not worry about it?
I have a boot disk on cd,but my laptop wont boot from it.I have tried restarting it,and then pressing F1 and the delete buttons,to change the boot order but it doesnt take me to those options.What are the buttons to press other than the 2 mentioned ? Those keys always work on all my other pc's.Or do toshiba laptops not allow any changes to those items?
I have a toshiba laptop, it run XP pro, What I would like to do is add 2000 or xp pro onto a second partition, then at start up have the choice of which windows to use. I guess 2k should have been installed before xp, but I could use xp if this would allow me to do it, Any pointers in the right direction would be most helpfull.
I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite P20 (PSP26C-0JQRT7), it's running Windows XP Media Center. Even since my last windows update, it became awfully slow and it started giving me blue screen errors at boot time .once in a while. I would say that about 1 in 2 times, it wouldn't boot. Then I would try "last known good configuration" or just start normally and after a few tries, it would work. But since the last windows updates this morning (july 13th), I cannot boot without getting a blue screen error. The best I can do is boot in safe mode about once very two tries.
We have a two year old Toshiba laptop, my son tried to clean the screen and cracked it. I have about 2 inches that I can see.I want to connect it to an external monitor, when I hook it up, I can only see on the external screen until it boots up and then it clicks over to the lap top.
This system had loads of problems by the time i got it to "fix" it wont system restore - they have all been deleted, BSOD, serious error recovery every other start, viruses, spyware by the ton.Simple start would be to try a repair, if that doesnt work total reinstall as i just cant be bothered with it.Problem is the Fujitsu Siemens recovery disc when used from windows states the serial is incorrect.The sticker on the box states "Win XP Media center Edition 2005".The Fujitsu Siemens Recovery CD states "Win XP Home Edition-SP2".Now unless there is some "Trick" that im not aware of it isn't ever going to work! so Fujitsu Siemens sent the wrong disc with the system and it only now when its needed that i realise they are wrong! The system probably isn't in warranty and Fujitsu Siemens don't allow any form of Email support.
Where can I find drivers for my TOSHIBA laptop A135-S2286 mobo? I cant install the Radeon vid drivers for Xp Pro UNTIL I first install all the mobo drivers. CPUID gave me a cryptic Toshiba IAYAA brand mobo which I never heard of. I want to run XP Pro and right now the Device Manager shows NO vid display since the native vid driver is VGASave which sucks.
