I have tried to do restore and also recovery with the disc's I burned when I first got my computer, to no avail, a Tech at Best Buy said I may have a spyware called smit fraud on my system and said he could get rid of it for $400.00, I wish I could afford it but I don't even have $4 bucks to my name and my wife refuses to shell it out. I was in a car accident 3 years ago and have lost 70% of the use of my right arm I am unemployed and it is hard for me to do the job I was trained to do which is cooking, I am a Certified Chef of 22 years now I can't even hold a knife. This computer is all I have to keep me from going insane and it has become so slow that it now runs at a snails pace, Please can someone help me? my wife did allow me to upgrade the connection from dial-up to DSL as we got a deal from our provider at $14.99 a month for a year which saves us on the extra phone line and all but the computer is still slow.
My computer crashed about a month ago and I had to use a recovery disc to restore my original system.. Everything works fine except when I boot up and following the Sony logo and Intel logo the following message appears "Press F11 for Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. Acronis fatal error Boot drive (partition) not found. Press Enter to try to boot your PC." Pressing enter boots up the PC fine but how can I eliminate the process? I had Acronis on both drives before the crash but it no longer exists.
I looking for a way to make sure my Operation System is working correctly? I have a recovery disc for Windows XP PRO, but it says that it will wipe out all of my upgrades if I use it?Is there a Service Pack 2 Recovery File that I can download to a My desktop, and then burn to a CD?
I uninstalled some preloaded Windows programs, I reinstalled some of them, but now my laptop's all funny. When I connect to The Internet, any program that I open freezes for like 10 minutes, after which it unfreezes. During this time I normally restart my computer, with no success. If I open Windows Live Messenger and Internet Explorer 7 together it freezes normally. Pinball, WordPad, Sound Recorder, and Volume Control cannot be restored. Also, I tried using my Toshiba Recovery DVD, with no success. It says Loading RAMDISK Image, then it reboots and loads the exact same system with no changes made.
My packard bell notebook model (easynote) E-3242 running windows XP. After installing SP2, XP wont load, even in safe mode. I already used cd-bootable Knoppix to copy all documents i needed to rescue. At this point a complete Re-install would be great, but alas, no install disk came with this notebook, And i lost the recovery discs i made. I do NOT have any XP disc available. How can I begin a re-install or similiar from the Hardisk with no Discs?
I get a little confused by terms like restore vs recovery, which are often interchanged incorrectly IMO -and then there are the terms bootable disc and startup disc, which can also get confusing - and I have seen other terms used also.
please explain exactly what you mean by the "bootable XP CD". I have a new XPsp2 home edition pc, and I had a millennium before that (which I made a "startup disc" for in add/remove programs - so I guess a startup disc is yet another term for boot disc - it was only a 3-1/2" diskette (less than a meg), and it would get my millennium to boot by typing "scanreg /restore" at a prompt that you eventually came to.
For my XP, I immediately made a Compaq "recovery dvd" (it took 2-dvd's) utilizing the "Compaq recovery cd-dvd creator" in start/programs/pc tools. This dvd (can also use cd's but it takes 8 or 9 cd's I believe) contains everything that is on the pc (from the factory), and which is also in the system recovery partition D:. There is also something called a "Recovery Tools CD", which I did not burn, since it did not seem necessary, after reading about it in the "troubleshooting and system recovery guide" that came with my Compaq. I will burn that one to, if you can explain what it will do, that I can't ultimately achieve by using the "recovery dvd". The manual said that one of the things the "recovery tools cd" did was to remove the system recovery partition (drive D), so you could use it - but I'm sure there is another way of doing that from within the pc once you got it running using the recovery dvd - am I right - I've never messed around with partitioning, since I have no need to.
My new XP did not come with any "bootable CD" per se, and I made the "recovery dvd", as stated above. So please shed some light on what the "bootable XP CD" is that you refer to (because you said that a "restore Cd is really overkill" - I assume you mean the "recovery CD" that I mentioned). Also please provide your comments on the "recovery tools CD", and any other comments you have on the various terminologies I have mentioned above.
Hoping to avoid a full reinstall of Windows XP, I'd like to try some repair procedures. The problem is, when I launch my "Vaio PCV-RS430G" recovery disc it goes straight to Sony's proprietary recovery interface which provides ONLY the preset option to wipe my 'c' drive and reinstall Windows. According to some MS articles I've read, an XP recovery disc should allow me to access the Windows Recovery Console (by typing "R" at the welcome screen). Can anyone suggest how I can bypass the Sony recovery and get to the Windows Recovery Console?
I have a toshiba laptop A105 sieries. I got a real nasty worm and could not get rid of it.I then stuck in the restore disc and did a complete erase of my harddrive. I am now trying to install the operating system off of the restore disc and I am not able to. Can someone please help me. I have went into the bios and set it to boot from dvd rom but then all it does is say recovering. 32 min later when it is done I try to boot from hard drive it ask me if I want to start windows normally. I select it and then nothing happens. I go back to bios and it says bood from hard drive but no go. If I go back into bios and have it boot from the recover disc it's the same thing all over. I don't know what I am doing and am a little confused no, really confused.
I lost my system recovery disc. I also lost all of my games that came with windows...free cell, solitaire, paint..etc. I just want those back. Can I run a system recovery program on windows without a disc
I used the recovery program (made by softthinks) for my HP compaq nc8430, to make one set of DVDs in case i would need those. Then, the program didn't work anymore because it set a limit to the times you could make the disks.I went around this problem using the ResetRMC program. The fact is that now I need to make again another set, because the second one have holes in them (will never again buy cheap DVD for backup!).I tried to use a solution, which i found on the internet: to delete the HPCD.sys file which sets the limit, but the only outcome was that , since then, the program does ask me to burn CD, it tells that my computer hasn't got any DVD burner. How can i solve this?
I am looking to reformat my Compaq Presario V5002EA laptop with windows XP home edition SP3. Having read various forums it seems there should be an option in my 'Start > All Programs' menu to begin a system recovery program. Within this program there should be an option to create a set of Recovery Discs from which I could do the reformat.
I can't find this option anywhere on the computer and would prefer not to fork out 31 to HP if I can create the discs myself! Can someone please tell me how to find the Recovery Disc Creator?
Does anyone have a recovery disc for an HP pavilion 9745.I am told a disc Part Number 5066-0544 is what I require but my last resort, "Pavilion Repair Services" said they had not got one.
I have a E Machine PC, model W2888. I formated the hard drive, but I do not have the recovery disc with the drivers on it. I was looking for the driver for the ethernet card. The card they show on the front of the case says "Intel Pro 10/100 LAN" so I was looking for drivers for that but no luck. So I called Emachines and they told me to download a chipset for "Intel 845GV" I tried looking for that, but I don't know what I'm looking for. Does anyone know where I can find a driver for the ethernet card so I can download it on this PC I'm using, burn it to a disc install it into my E Machine PC so I can get online and do a windows update and install all of the other dirvers?
I have just bought a new PC so I could let the kids have the other one in their room. Both PC's are emachines and run XP. I have successfully networked the two with a crossover cable but I thought I'd reboot the old one to clear it from all the stuff I had on it. When I start the PC up with the recovery disk in either the D or E drive it doesn't get recognized and just goes strait to the user page. Any ideas on how I can get round this? I can enter the set up stage by pressing Del but i'm a bit green on this!
My boss has two laptops both toshiba his older one a satellite 1110 his daughter had being using and was full of junk he asked me to run the restore disk ive used the wrong disc I now have the corredt discs to hand including the windows xp start up. The recovery disk that came with my machine is now well out of date and I want to make my own, with all the latest drivers etc. I am running XP SP2 but XP came as an OEM inbuilt provision. The manufacturer (Tiny Computers) will not release a copy of the XP disk to me unless I pay the full XP price!

I have a Gateway CX2618, w/ windows XP tablet edition 2005 version 2002, sp2. And wanted to wipe it clean and reinstall just the things I use. Plus my Tablet side of things hasn't worked in a long time and I was hoping the clean install would fix that. But my recovery DVD isn't working (could be user error). I DO have apps that I need to keep and I think I've backed them up to my external HD correctly.
I tried to install the Recovery System, from the original disc, onto a 2-year-old Gateway laptop, but appartently the TrayApp file (whatever that is) on the disc is corrupted. I can't get a new disc because Gateway no longer carries them. What else can I use? Can I buy a Windows XP (the original OS) update and install that? Can I use the recovery disc from another brand of computer, like Dell?

I am running windows XP home edition, file system FAT 32. Whenever I start my computer the disc check always wants to run on one or more of my drives. The checking will always stall at 0 percent and not check the drive. How can I get it to work? If I skip the disc check my computer will start up.
Hi I am new here, and need help!I have been working on this for days, and keep getting nowhere. Yesterday I had an error message: 16-Bit MS-Dos Subsystem C:Documents and Settings.......DesktopDisk Cleanup.Ink The NTVDM CPU has encountered and illegal instruction.with the options to either close or ignore. The ignore didn't do anything. I right clicked on "disc cleanup" and checked users and it was set to the administer. I even tried a different user but that didn't work either.I have run three virus scans: AVG 8.5,SUPERAnti spyware, and Malwarebytes' Anti Malware. I tried Hijackthis but have no idea what/how to doi with it. I have run registery cleaner, and a few other things that I have found on this site. Now I am getting an error message: C:WindowsSystem 32cleanmgr.exe is not a valid Win 32 application.
Is it possible to create a system restore disc, like the ones provided with new pc's?I have just used the restore disc for my brothers pc after many problems with corrupt system files that I couldn't repair. We have everything running ok at the moment and are about to install a new dvd writer.I intend to set a system restore point, but if the problem we have just recovered from should resurface, where I could not access windows I would like to be able to use the system restore disc in the future.Assuming that changing hardware would render the manufacturers restore disc useless, how can I create a disc that will be as straightforward to use as the original?
anyone else have problems getting system restore to work at all? When I try it , I get a message saying something similiar to cannot be restored and no changes have been made. This happens no matter how far back I go. Had my computer (DEll) 2 or3 yrs with windows home edition.
If i was to install service pack 2, via the disc i have, and i dont like what it has done to my computer, will i be able to refer back to a System Restore Point i created before installation?
Having problems after a System Recovery. HP Pavilion Desktop 980-XA. Used the 7 System Recovery disks provided by HP. All seemed to go well. No errors appeared until I restarted.
