I use the tool files and settings transfer wizard but when i restore the data on the new profile the office outlook settings are not copied. Any way for transfer the user office outlook settings from a profile to one another.
Files and settings wizard does not replace files and settings after re installation. of XP. After several tries I got a copy of FASTconv, a command line program, to extract the files. It has been a long time since I used a command line and the command is complex. I have set the command follows........ fastconv /V /S:source store /D:destination store /T:temp store /I left out the /I switch so all files in the Dir source store would be extracted. Same thing happens when I put in /I switch.I named the Dir. source store, destination store and temp store. When I run it I get instructions on usage and a command prompt What am I missing?

Studying that was how I was able to learn this deep into the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. Basically, the two have similar, but not exactly the same configuration.Now here I'll post the configuration for the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. I took what I found already there, and was adding features to it. I didn't create this from scratch, and it would've been silly to, as it's a configuration file.My issue is that whenever I'm saving settings, anytime I tell it to save something from HKEY_CURRENT_USER in the registry, it does not work. I was needing to know if anyone knows why, so I can correct it please.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a computer running Win XP. We had previously installed a second, bigger hard drive, so she wouldnt lose any space on her c drive, which is only 9GB. Problem is, she's now down to about 147MB on the C drive, and we are afraid of a crash. Can I use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to move some of her programs to the bigger drive?? The new drive is 120 GB, and we want to just leave the operating system on the C drive, and move everything else. We have already run the disk cleanup wizard, emptied temp folders, and deleted unused programs (except for Quicken.it doesnt seem to want to uninstall.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have XP Home Edition and have recently had to Reinstall completely.I did a backup of the files and settings back in October before my system went kaput and now would like to transfer them to my newly installed version of Windows.I have the properly named file on disk USMT2.UNC with the proper DAT and STATUS files inside but try as I might the wizard will not recognise the path to the folder and will therefore not copy them across.Can SKS suggest why this is please? I have tried copying the folder to desktop but same thing applies.

I just bought an HP mini notebook and want to transfer my "Favorites" and 'Address book' to the new computer using a USB memory stick. Both machines are having Win XP Home Edition. When I get to Hardware Wizard Search and Install options, I type in C:Program (This is where I've downloaded drivers) an error msg. states that there is no device info in this location. I get the same response when I enter the file name. I've battled this driver problem for two days, from installation disk drivers not compatable, to not finding downloaded drivers. View 5 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine has an old computer with Windows XP home on it. It's basically a piece of junk, out dated and has things wrong with it. Basically the capacitors on the board are popping and leaking. It won't run anymore. So a new computer will be bought. New motherboard and case.
However it has no windows. The windows on the old system is pre-loaded on that computer. Is it possible to somehow install XP on the new computer using the old key and without buying a whole new copy of Windows XP? I figure xp won't allow this right off the bat, but does Microsoft offer any way to do this? I think it should be possible since XP is only being used on one system. Paying for windows twice doesn't seem just right in this case.
I also know some keys are defined for certain types of hardware configurations (oems etc). But I still wonder if there is a way.
This is really a question more than a problem. I'm running a PC with 2 HDs. I am changing the boot drive C: for a larger disk. Now ordinarily I would use a backup program like Ghost or whatever. Now my situation is slightly different in that most of my startup programs are installed on my second HD E:, the C: drive being the boot drive with XP installed.
What my intention is. Is to take out drive E: Then replace that with my new drive. Then I was going to boot in Safe Mode and use the Windows Files & Transfer wizard to copy the C: drive to The new drive. The last thing to do then is swap the C: with the newly installed drive and replace the original E: drive. I hope that all makes sense.

Well since then I've changed the h.d, motherboard, and a few other things and installed a fresh copy of windows on the alternate h.d. well with the first h.d set as a slave and no means of going back to my original setup because i deleted most of everything on the h.d except a few folders it won't give me access to those folders. The person outsourced told them to do another install of Windows to get in so they can back up their files. They tell him to install to Windows1 instead of Windows. I guess the smart outsourced agent thought this wouldn't delete any files since my friend told him he has some very important documents on this hard drive. So he installs another Windows and guess what, his documents and settings get overwritten. Looks like these guys really know what they're talking about since any Microsoft person should know this happens no matter where you install Windows

We bought it from best buy, and i guess they registered the computer to a 'valued customer' and its really annoying. Idk how the user name stuff works, but i think a while ago(not 100% positive cuz it was like 2 years ago) when we first got the computer i changed the admin 'valued customer' name to my name. but the 'my documents' folder defaulted to 'c:/documents and settings/valued customer' still. i fixed it by making a folder on c: with my name and made that folder the target location for the My Documents folder.

I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly

When I start my computer, I get the Loading Settings screen, which automatically switches to the Saving Settings screen and then goes back to Loading Settings, Saving Settings, etc, etc, (the "Windows XP Startup" and "Windows XP Shutdown" sounds repeat themselves one right after the other). By the way, I have the XP tweak that skips the Welcome and log on screens at startup since I'm the only person that uses the computer. I've tried Debugging, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Restore To Last Working Settings and a few others, but nothing is working. I ran Spybot just before shutting down the computer the last time it worked and got the "Congratulations! Your system contains no spyware" message. When I restarted the computer, I started having this problem. I also have Norton Anti Virus 2004 and did a Live Update (manually) a few hours before this started happening.
