My husbands PC won't boot.the welcome (but without the welcome messege) and then the following error occurs"The Application failed to initialize properly (0x0000142) click OK to terminate program"We have no idea what this could be (the only recent changes made to the PC is a wireless connection, which was set up almost 2 weeks ago, so i am thinking that this isn't connected to the problem now?)....or how it has happened. My husband has tried to boot in safe mode and the welcome screen appears (again without welcome messege) and goes no further.

I turned it on and loaded up Simply Accounting.I noticed that the program window fonts were too small.I thought this had to be a simply accounting problem as i didn’t notice anything odd with my other Windows font in windows explorer. After doing some exploring i found that it was not only Simply Accounting, but other windows programs were affected as well.I looked in the typical windows appearance settings and saw that all was untouched.

I have periodically had this problem: Program: C:Pogram FilesInternet Exploreriexplorer.exe, This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information. Now I get it numerous times a day, and sometime IE-XP just shuts down for no reason. I apologize if this is a duplicate thread-got tired of searching.

I believe has to do with my Windows Installer. I've noticed that whenever I turn on my computer, this pop-up message from Windows Installer comes up on the boot up as Windows is done loading all of my programs. Also, this pop-up message comes up when I try to install certain programs, such as Blackberry Desktop Software, and then immediately terminates the install from there on out. The message says exactly as follows

I have four computers, three on windows XP and one on Linux. All are connected to the internet via a D Link DI-704. I had to reformat and reload one of my computers yesterday with windows XP and then proceeded to set up the networking. I will call the windows computers A, B and C. I reformatted A. Having run the networking wizard I can now from A read C but not B. B will not let A or C in. I need permission from the administrater. There is no administrater on any computer. C can read A but not B. B can read A and C. Does anybody know what is going on?

I open the cd drive (for one of the CDs), double click on setup.exe, and get the following annoying message:
"The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."
However, I also have the option of pressing ignore. When I do, it does the exact same thing as close So I really don't have a choice of opening the program. I really would like to use these CDs.
I have tried using the windows compatibilaty tool, but still the same thing happened. How should I get them to work? Also, old files I download from the internet also have this problem.

I downloaded a program from Ebay and after installing it I noticed it didn't have a uninstall. I used my add & remove program to uninstall the program but not all of it got uninstalled. I deleted the folder and then did a search in my registry for anything with refernce to the programs name "Ebay's Blackthorne" and deleted all entries with that name.Every time I reboot windows tries to install something for Blackthorne and I have to keep cancelling it out.

I tried to use "Compressed (Zipped) Folders" in Windows. It didn't work. Then I tried right clicking on a folder/file, selecting "Properties", pushing the "Advanced" button,I then checked "Compress contents to save disk space",and the folder and its contents turned blue but the size of the files, seeming, hadn't changed. Have the files actually been compressed? Should I get an external ZIP program? If so can you recommend a program?

It is frustrating having every program automatically install to program files, including minor things like audio attachment. I know I'll end up with tons and tons of folders in program files. Beyond that, I can't access program files from the other computers on the network. Is there a good way to reorganize/move files to my C drive in a way that would be efficient and wouldn't require reinstalling every single program in a different place?

I have a CD-Rom and CD-R Burner on my Windows XP Pro (SP2) machine. The CD burner will burn data to a 70 min/800 MB CD (and that CD can be read with no problems on other computers), but neither the CD-Rom nor the CD burner will read any 80 min/700 MB CD, even the ones it burned itself. The CD Burner is a Mitsumi CR-4804TE drive, using driver version 5.1.2535.0 (7/1/01), the latest update I can find. Mitsumi has more recent updates, but they do not list WinXP as one of the OS.Not sure of the make of the CD-Rom, WinXp lists it as HL-DT-ST CD-Rom GCR-8483B (same driver as the CD Burner). Is there a general WinXP patch that will enable me to read these CDs? Will the Mitsumi driver work on WinXP Pro?

I have recently experienced problems with my CD-ROM well its a DVD ROM. I was burning CD's fine. then it stopped or would only burn one or two things. I thought it might just need to be cleaned so I went and bought a cleaner. I tried it and now it won't do anything. I bought a brand new CD and it won't even read it at all. I can try others and it does.

This is a NEC ND-3520AW. Worked fine until ? I don't think I installed anything or saw any other contributing factor.
1. The main problem is if I insert a known good CD, when I open the drive which is the D drive in this case it shows no contents. If I take the same CD to another computer and open it I see folders, files, etc.
2. I can write to the drive on a CDR or CDRW fine using Nero.
3. I can boot from the drive using an Ubuntu or other boot disk.
