I have a 4GB SD card for my digital camera and when I insert it into the card reader on my laptop it doesn't even show up as being read. I know my card read works because it picks up my sisters card from her camera.I am getting sick of having to whip out the cable and do it that way.If anyone has any advice please share it.
I can't seem to get my brand new firewire 1394 card made by PPA Int'l to work. My old firewire PCI card was fried and so I got a new one. Can anyone walk me through the steps internally in the comp. to get the card to recognize my external HD and also my Digidesign Pro Tools 002 unit to work.
I have four computers, three on windows XP and one on Linux. All are connected to the internet via a D Link DI-704. I had to reformat and reload one of my computers yesterday with windows XP and then proceeded to set up the networking. I will call the windows computers A, B and C. I reformatted A. Having run the networking wizard I can now from A read C but not B. B will not let A or C in. I need permission from the administrater. There is no administrater on any computer. C can read A but not B. B can read A and C. Does anybody know what is going on?
Firstly I have a pc which I installed Win XP Prof onto. All worked great. Then took out modem card and replaced with ethernet card. Again no problem. However, when I went to boot the compute up a week or so later it went through the boot process and then just before I would expect to see the Windows logo with blue sky background appear I "sometimes" get a blue screen flash up with a message which you cant read unless you can slow down time and then the PC restarts and goes through the whole procedure again. I did manage to start in Boot logging mode and watch to see where the problem was. It seemed to be something to do with the Display adaptor. I found the appropriate solution on the web and although I now get further on into the boot, it still restarts. When i try to run the logging thing (!) it does not want to play any more and just boots in the normal fashion. I have tried defaulting the BIOS, checking the file system for damaged sectors etc all to no avail.
I have a PC with a built-in media card reader, and when I use the compact flash portion of that reader a certain program is always launched. I would imagine that initially I indicated which program to open. Is there any change to change that program?

laptop has got the ZLOB virus and I am trying to get rid of it but I cannot connect to the internet because the drivers for the ethernet card are missing. There is no id on the laptop apart from the COA for XP and Z600 on a sticker underneath it. How can I find out what make it is so I can find the drivers. I don't mind paying for the drivers or a virus remover as long as they work.
While I was deployed my wife inserted an Mini SD card in to the card reader built into the computer. When she removed the card windows locked up, as soon as she reinserted the card windows worked fine. She removed the mini SD card from the adapter to use in her phone, and windows still worked fine, but as soon as she removed the Mini SD adapter from the card reader windows locked up and the windows would hang during start-up with out the adapter. Reinserting the adapter cured the freeze and hang, but windows ran very slow.I removed and reinstalled the card reader drivers and was able to remove the adapter, but windows still hangs on start-up with out the adapter placed in the slot.
I am trying to access the internet with my windows nt system but it appears I can't. I may have the wrong NIC card but I was told by 3com it was the correct card.
i recently have done a reinstall of windows xp but the system cannot seem to be able to find the systems video card drivers and i have checked on the properties under adapters and the whole list says n/a so i have no way of find out what drivers i need to download. I have a CD-Rom and CD-R Burner on my Windows XP Pro (SP2) machine. The CD burner will burn data to a 70 min/800 MB CD (and that CD can be read with no problems on other computers), but neither the CD-Rom nor the CD burner will read any 80 min/700 MB CD, even the ones it burned itself. The CD Burner is a Mitsumi CR-4804TE drive, using driver version 5.1.2535.0 (7/1/01), the latest update I can find. Mitsumi has more recent updates, but they do not list WinXP as one of the OS.Not sure of the make of the CD-Rom, WinXp lists it as HL-DT-ST CD-Rom GCR-8483B (same driver as the CD Burner). Is there a general WinXP patch that will enable me to read these CDs? Will the Mitsumi driver work on WinXP Pro?
I recorded a show onto a -RWDVD. It plays on the dvd player fine. I wanted to edit it and then burn to a -R disc. BUT, my computer "E" drive says the disc is blank.
My daughter has asked for help with the removal of music from her mp3.When she tries to move or delete anything she gets a message saying 'cannot read from the source file or disk'. As I know absolutely nothing about mp3's I said I would try here.
Just turned on my comp and when it got to the part where it says 'Verifying DMI pool data'It says 'A disk read error occurred' then asks me to ctrl-alt-del I did that and I keep getting the same message. I have win XP pro. I tryed to start it with the XP pro disk in.
I have recently experienced problems with my CD-ROM well its a DVD ROM. I was burning CD's fine. then it stopped or would only burn one or two things. I thought it might just need to be cleaned so I went and bought a cleaner. I tried it and now it won't do anything. I bought a brand new CD and it won't even read it at all. I can try others and it does.
This is a NEC ND-3520AW. Worked fine until ? I don't think I installed anything or saw any other contributing factor.
1. The main problem is if I insert a known good CD, when I open the drive which is the D drive in this case it shows no contents. If I take the same CD to another computer and open it I see folders, files, etc.
2. I can write to the drive on a CDR or CDRW fine using Nero.
3. I can boot from the drive using an Ubuntu or other boot disk.
I have been trying to copy files, both program and data files over to a CDRW disk and when I finish and look at the properties it is always read only on the attributes.Any idea what needs to be set or configured to all me to use the information on other computers?
well i recently realised that i have got into a habit of saving my downloads on my desktop and forgetting to move them from there so i was thinking for the solution and just thought to make my boot drive as read only so that i couldnt save anything there so is there any way by which i can make a drive read only?
Recently I tried to run my Autocad program. It faulted on an error stating that it couldn't create files in the Temp directory and that I should check to see if it was marked Read Only. I found that the entire drive is marked Read Only. When I went to Properties and tried to reset it to normal it went right back to Read Only. I was able to create a new Adminstrator User on my PC to get around the problem, but that means all my user settings are lost. It appears that I have lost administrative rights to the drive. All my other apps seem to work fine. How do I correct the problem without loosing my current user configurations. Why doesn't Windows XP allow one to copy or save a user configuration?
I am running XP Pro and trying to install a games disk for my granddaughter, the disk works on another computer running XP Pro but not on mine it won't even show up in my computer in the D drive just tells me to insert a disk I have tried going through run to no avail, all other disks work
When I tried installing XP Pro as an upgrade from Windows 2000, it almost finished the install (34 minutes left) when the computer turned itself off. This happened several times. I removed the hard drive and reformatted it - cleaned it off, then reinstalled it. Now when the PC boots up it recognizes the CD Rom drivs but it will not boot or install from the CD ROM drive. I created the 6 diskettes to tell the PC to install from the CD Rom drive, and it gives me an I/O error. The BIOS says to boot off the CD ROM drive but it won't. What might cause this? A bad hard drive? A bad motherboard?
XP home-- CDROM will only play Shadowbane game disk--any other disk pop up window --install CD--comes up. Also had window I/O device not acessible pop up. used windows troubleshooter had RED Triangle pop up.Malevalent program installed
I've started getting "a disk read error occurred press ctrl + alt + del to restart" on my nearly new alienware bot. i have to use power button to turn off systm, then turn it back on to get it to work.
I'm on a Sony VAIO with Windows XP. When my computer goes into hibernation mode and I try to reboot, I get an error that says, "The system could not be restarted from its previous location due to a read failure." There is one option for me to select which reads "Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu."I've done a check disk of all of my hard drives, and none of them turned up anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
My problem is this. A friend has given me a copy of a data base for our club as he is leaving. We both have windows XP MSWord 2003 and MS Works 7 on which the data base was written. I have tried to make my computer read the disk without success. It says Microsoft Works cannot connect to the data source that contains the information you want to merge. The file may have been deleted, moved or renamed It supplies the file name and extensions which have made on my computer but without success.
When I insert a cd into the disk drive I can hear it spinning and grinding but it never plays the disk & If I insert a blank disk to copy music, I get an error reading 'insert blank disk'.
Upon starting up a Gateway LX laptop, I receive a "A disk read error has occured, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to restart." Instantly, I know this is bad. So I load in the Windows XP Home disk and boot from the CD. I go to repair and recovery and the console opens up. I run chkdsk and it stop at 13%. Any suggestions. Is the hard drive done? I have backups, I'm just wondering if it's time for a new hard drive.
Every morning after I turn on my computer, the hardisk lights will keep flashing for about one hour and system is slowed down. I use task manager found that svhost.exe had 1.3G I/O read and 600M I/O write after PC only had run for only one hour. What's the cause of it and how can I stop it?
