I can't seem to get my brand new firewire 1394 card made by PPA Int'l to work. My old firewire PCI card was fried and so I got a new one. Can anyone walk me through the steps internally in the comp. to get the card to recognize my external HD and also my Digidesign Pro Tools 002 unit to work.

I know my card read works because it picks up my sisters card from her camera.I am getting sick of having to whip out the cable and do it that way.If anyone has any advice please share it.

I have burned data on DVD ,but for some reason when I try to use it ,the system(Windows XP Professional SP2 ) gives me "please insert disc" message.It started happening after I reinstalled windows ,but the data was burned onto disc on previous installation .It was the same system,I just had to reinstall it to fix a lot of accumulated problems .This happens with DVDs from various manufacturers and with different types of data,so I believe it's a system problem.It registers the disc being put in the DVD/CD drive(the icon is shown in my computer menu,although sometimes it is not) but it still gives me the insert disc message.98 % of the time it works O.K. ,but it should work all the time ,right?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have two CD-ROM drives on my Dell desktop. Until today they worked fine. I installed a new keyboard driver (which isn't working right) and now I am unable to read any CD in either drive. It's a MicroInnovations KB535BL keyboard with hot keys.The keyboard works but the hot keys don't. Their technical support gave me a different driver to try and that wouldn't install at all. I haven't heard from their second level technical support. So I tried to reinstall the keyboard driver from the CD that came with the keyboard. That's when I discovered that I couldn't read any CD on either of my CD-ROM drives. I haven't been able to contact MicroInnovations second level support.

It crashed yesterday and now whenever it boots it give me the following error A disk read error occurred Press ctl alt del to restart.I managed to get to the selection of boot in safe mode, but it still won't boot and then I get I/O error reading boot sector.At this point I just want to get the data off it. The end result is a laptop that now requires a smart card to log in but won't proceed to PIN verification when a card is inserted. It is not connected to the domain that enabled the smart card policy, and I can't log in to attach it to that domain to remove the policy. I'm reminded of a program that can reset a windows password by rewriting the HD sector it resides on, is there something like this for group policies?

When I install it into the pci slot and boot the computer the video fails no display on the screen, so I removed the card and the screen worked ok.
I did disable the onboard sound card befor I tried to install this card.

I have tried everything : bought a cardbus card for the 1394, uninstall the device then reboot for windows to re-establish the drivers, disabled / reenabled to device, new drivers from dell, ms, and maxtor, updated bios from Dell for the D800, double checked the BIOS settings, and ran Dell Diagnosics cd (never had luck with this one), you name it I tried it.I am trying to attach a Maxtor HDD drive to the computer it doesn't have any usb 2.0 connections.

The laptop has a Nvidia 8600M GS video card, and I cannot for the life of me find any drivers for the video card that work with XP. The drivers on Nvidia's website are not for laptops, and I have seen on other forums that there are driver issues with HP notebooks and XP.When I boot Windows XP, images load very slowly and my video card does not even show up in the device manager. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq EVO D51S SFF which I had plugged to my LCD TV as a media centre, just to watch movies and all. I had not connected this computer to the internet because I did not have a wireless card.I finally installed a wireless card, and then windows started doing all sorts of updates as expected (since the version on the SFF was SP2).Once windows was done with the updates, I started having problems with the screen resolution.
The SFF does not have a stand alone video card, so I had set the resolution at 1024 x 768, and this worked just fine before the updates.Now, the resolution keeps changing and this is a problem because the LCD TV gives me a message saying "Resolution Not Supported", so I can't use the computer unless I connect it to a regular computer monitor, select 1024x768, and then connect to the TV. I connect via VGA port, not DVI (don't have DVI).
