I have a Dell 4600 running XP Home and all my USB ports have suddenly stopped working. When I go to the device manager and expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, each of the Intel(R) 8280 1EB VBB Universal Host Controller has a yellow exclamation mark beside them. When I check their status this is the message: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19). I was not in the registry prior to this, so I don't know how it got damaged I tried this: Click Uninstall, and then click Scan for hardware changes to load a usable driver ? no effect.
I tried this: Restart the computer in Safe Mode, and then select Last Known Good Configuration, which rolls back to the most recent successful registry configuration ? didn't fix the problem. Microsoft says that as a last resort, you can edit the registry directly ? but I not sure where and what to edit in the registry. If anyone can tell me what keys to edit in the registry I would very appreciative. I will do anything to avoid reinstall windows from scratch. I unfortuately didn't have system restore going so I cannot use that.
i am trying to delete the temp files in the windows/temp directory but they won't delete. It says a program is using them but even when i try and get rid of them in safe mode they won't delete, how can i get rid of them? Also when i try to run a panda online virus scan i click on the scan my computer icon and it does nothing but there is a little yellow exclamation mark on the bottom left of the window, is that why it isn't doing anything and if so, how can i fix it?
I have two DVD drives connected to an XP desktop computer, however, they do not work. They appear in Device Manager under DVD/CD-ROM drives with a yellow shreik/exclamation mark preceding the listing The devices are also recognized in the BIOS setup. When I click on the device in Device Manager, I get the message"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)". One of the devices previously worked correctly. In fact, I completed a clean install of XP using it. Just what does the error message mean Does it mean that the devices are faulty & need to be replaced
Every Time that I reboot I get an icon in the system tray, the icon is of a red sphere containing a white exclamation mark. I have run both a virus scan and spyware scan using CA eTrust anitivirus and Windows Defender but with no result shown.
i recently bought a wi fi usb adaptor (TP-LINK TL-wn320g) and installed the latest drivers for it from the website, but when i connect it to my pc 90% of the time after it connects to my router the pc crashes to blue screen with this error message,DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUA STOP: OxOOOOOOD1 (OXOOOOOOOO, OXOOOOOOO2, OXOOOOOOOO, OXBAFA82A3)PCC_PFW.SYS- ADDRESS BAFA82A3 base at BAFA0000, DATESTAMP 3E81940Ci
I am pulling my hair out. What little there is left, that is. Trying to use a USB 2.0 HDD (Western Dig.) by way of a PC Card USB 2.0 controller in my laptop (HP zt1130). Nothing I try seems to work.I went to SP1 because, supposedly it would have updated XP's USB 2.0 support, etc., etc.Went thru three other adaptors with same results using XP w/o SP1. Currently using Adaptec AUA 1422 (2 USB, 2 Firewall ports). I can transfer files from my Primary HDD and the External HD (using the USB 2.0 adaptor) but only at extremely slow speed. For example: 1 Gig file takes 14-15 minutes. I was expecting something more like 2-3 minutes. Any thoughts out there?
i have a problem on my dell dimension 4400 desktop. i compressed the hard drive then uninstalled apple mobile device support and msn sign in assisstant and i disk cleaned it after that. then i restarted and everything is huge! its in 640x860 pixels or something, and the color is all messed up and it doesnt even look like XP heres a video: my screen is huge and i cant change the resolution, when i try and run natural color it says my graphics card isnt in high color, and when i go to settings it says im in 4bit color. How did this happen? i didnt uninstall anything that would cause this. if you dont know how to fix it can you tell me how this happened? btw i have a ''plug and play monitor on 64mb NVIDIA geforce 2 mx with tv out'
I have a Plug and Play Software Enumerator failures. (XP SP2)I get an error 31 which says that it can't load the driver properly. However, the driver files (swenum.sys streamci.dll) are good as I got them from a functioning XP SP2 system. Also, when I enable bootlogging it says that it successfully loads swenum.sys. However, in Device Manager, I get the exclamation point and error 31.
I had the machine into the shop for days. One day I stepped in, and they had something they said was the Internet connection [not the 56k modem] plugged in. I never saw it used, just connected.Thinking about this since all they had was a wire was why can't I do that instead of this 56k modem ?They said something about I can if I use road runner. What are they talking about ?It shows my 1394 connection this moment as active. @ 400 bps. Before I took it to the shop, my LAN and 1394 were both disabled.I'm thinking this 1394 being enabled may be what's slowing my modem down now.If that's true I'd just as soon have the 1394 disabled again.more pix @ http://members.toast.net/cbminfo/index.html
I have a Dell d800 that the IEEE / 1394 port is not working. I have tried everything : bought a cardbus card for the 1394, uninstall the device then reboot for windows to re-establish the drivers, disabled / reenabled to device, new drivers from dell, ms, and maxtor, updated bios from Dell for the D800, double checked the BIOS settings, and ran Dell Diagnosics cd (never had luck with this one), you name it I tried it.I am trying to attach a Maxtor HDD drive to the computer it doesn't have any usb 2.0 connections.
I can't seem to get my brand new firewire 1394 card made by PPA Int'l to work. My old firewire PCI card was fried and so I got a new one. Can anyone walk me through the steps internally in the comp. to get the card to recognize my external HD and also my Digidesign Pro Tools 002 unit to work.
I can't seem to resolve. I've just reinstalled Windows XP. Everything seems to be fine except for when I try to install my cable which uses the ethernet adapter. Every time I try to install the driver for the ethernet adapter it says this:"The driver was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software""The drivers for this device is not installed"Can someone please help me with this? How can I get this ethernet card to work?
I have no idea what to do. I went into my cpsystemdevice manager and there's an exclamation point C-Media AC97 Audio Device. I double clicked on it and tried to retrieve it from my winxp cd but it doesn't work.
I recently re-installed XP in my old notebook. Although the connections work as ever, including normal internet connection, the Local Area Connection icon in the System Tray now has the "warning" symbol with exclamation point. I can find nothing wrong with the connection behavior, but I'd rather not have the "warning" showing. What can I check or do in order to get rid of it?
Tried Ulead to capture video, program get stuck only on capture - works otherwise. Ulead tech support blames it on my pc. On the same note, Windows Movie Maker does the same thing when trying to capture. The only one that works (captures) is the Vegas 9.0 (trial version). Downloaded all possible updates from WIndows live update. Still no positive result. Checked Device Manager, no conflicts but I noticed that the 1394 shares IRQ 20 with the 10/100 networking
Just recently, Windows Defender has been displaying an Exclamation Point over it's icon in the system tray. I looked into it and it seems that it wants new definition files.I tried updating the definitions but for some reason it just acts like its trying to update but never does.I'm thinking this may have some thing to do with Windows Genuine Disadvantage.
I just put a new 250GB HDD in an Intel D865 GLC motherboard with a 3GB Pentium cpu, but I can't get online! And I installed a new XP Pro.There's a net adapter built into the mobo: 1394 Net Adapter. It says it's connecting, but when I go thru the wizard for either the internet connection or the network connection, it doesn't get read. The little screen moved halfway toward connectivity and then it gives me a new page. I thought I'd work around it by disabling it, and I installed a D-Link NIC. The computer won't even recognize the D-Link! The Device Manager says it's working properly. I called Comcast, twice, and they came to the conclusion after going thru various routines that my computer is not reading the 1394 Net Adapter.
My keyboard won't type. I have to hold the letter down until my tower clicks twice then the letter types. I thought it was keyboard, got new one, still not working
When I go into Device Manager, under Network Adaptors, there is a question mark next to the Ethernet Controller. What do I need to do to get this up and running

Video controller These all have the yellow ? markMy mother board is a Gigabyte technology m61p-s3.I have been to the Gigabyte website but dont have a clue what to download.
On some websites I get an error message which shows up in the status bar.it is an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle. When this happens, I can't access the website. I have tried several suggestions from Microsoft, but I just seem to trade one problem for another. This first showed up when I "upgraded" to SP2.
I had to reformat my hard drive, under the device manager the Ethernet controller has a yellow question mark, now my DSL would not connect, also I thought should be network setting under that, didn't see any. I have windows xp sp2. under PC express controller port one I have the Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5750 Gigabit Ethernet Controller)
I reformated the hdd on my notebook and reinstalled XP. I tried to play media player but it did not detect the sound card, it said:error id = 0x80040256 remedy id = 0x00000000 I went into device manager and in 'other devices' there was a yellow question mark and then all those devices (ethernet, multimedia, pci, sm bus control, serial bus control, video control) had yellow question marks next to them.
C: has windows on it an is marked "boot". A partition G: on that same physical drive is marked "system" and has the three files ntltr; boot.ini; and NTDETECT.COM. This is the only two partitions on that physicl drive. I have sucessfully moved the 3 files to a floppy A: drive and can boot from the a: drive. I also have them on the C: drive as well. I would like to boot from these 3 files on the C: drive so that the D: drive can be cleaned out. And all of windows stuff is on the c: drive where it belongs. I did disk management and can not set the partition C: "Boot" marked drive and the Partitioned G: "System" marked drive to active or anything. It does not show on the drop menu for the C: drive and it is greyed out on the drop down menu G: drive. I cant even change the drive letters of the G: drive.
I just did a complete reinstall of my win XP pro O.S. Computer is working fine. Only one minor problem, I have a yellow question mark in Device Manager under Other devices, Ethernet Controller. Under Network Adapters, I have my USB Cable Modem. Also, under start/control panel/network connections/local area connections - USB Cable Modem. In the past, when I did a complete reinstall of the O.S., I have installed the Broadcom 4401 Integrated NIC driver that came with my Dell resource CD. I would not have a yellow question mark. But then when I installed the USB Cable Modem, I would then disable the Broadcom, since I didnt need it anyway. At this stage I would not have any yellow question marks. This time, since I wasnt using the Broadcom, I did not install it and only installed the USB cable modem. But now I have the yellow question mark. Since the computer is working fine, do I just ignore this yellow question mark issue or is there another workaround. Dell Dimension model 2350.
