Every Time that I reboot I get an icon in the system tray, the icon is of a red sphere containing a white exclamation mark. I have run both a virus scan and spyware scan using CA eTrust anitivirus and Windows Defender but with no result shown.

When I go to the device manager and expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, each of the Intel(R) 8280 1EB VBB Universal Host Controller has a yellow exclamation mark beside them. When I check their status this is the message: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19). I was not in the registry prior to this, so I don't know how it got damaged
I tried this: Click Uninstall, and then click Scan for hardware changes to load a usable driver ? no effect.
I tried this: Restart the computer in Safe Mode, and then select Last Known Good Configuration,which rolls back to the most recent successful registry configuration ? didn't fix the problem. Microsoft says that as a last resort, you can edit the registry directly ? but I not sure where and what to edit in the registry. If anyone can tell me what keys to edit in the registry I would very appreciative. I will do anything to avoid reinstall windows from scratch. I unfortuately didn't have system restore going so I cannot use that.
i am trying to delete the temp files in the windows/temp directory but they won't delete. It says a program is using them but even when i try and get rid of them in safe mode they won't delete, how can i get rid of them? Also when i try to run a panda online virus scan i click on the scan my computer icon and it does nothing but there is a little yellow exclamation mark on the bottom left of the window, is that why it isn't doing anything and if so, how can i fix it?

They appear in Device Manager under DVD/CD-ROM drives with a yellow shreik/exclamation mark preceding the listing The devices are also recognized in the BIOS setup. When I click on the device in Device Manager, I get the message"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)". One of the devices previously worked correctly. In fact, I completed a clean install of XP using it. Just what does the error message mean Does it mean that the devices are faulty & need to be replaced
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP and I think I may have a problem. In my task bar I have aan icon that is a red sphere with a "X"n it. I keep having a balloon that pops up saying my "computer is infected" and to use a special spyware tool to remove it. It also says "Windows will download the most up to date antispyware for me and to click on the Icon. When I click on the Icon, nothing happens. I've run "Ad-Aware SE" and still have the "Balloon". This balloon keeps popping up very often and I "x" and it disappears for a little bit and reappears. I also have another balloon that says updates are ready to be downloaded. I click on it and Windows Service Pack 2 Setup Wizard comes up to be installed. When I try to install, it says installation was unsuccessful.The "computer infected" balloon really bothers me the most and I would like to know how to correct this.

So, that i can easily run the Live Update with out open the program . (In that program itself the Live Update is able to run with out opening the Norton Program) so, how come i place an icon under the System Tray.

Since the last two or three monthly Window updates, that yellow shield icon - the Windows Update icon - no longer shows up in the system tray. I tried to locate it under "previous elements" (I'm translating from German since my computer language is in German), but it's not there. I only know when Window updates have been downloaded when I want to shut down the computer and I have the option to either first install the updates, after which the computer will shut down automatically, or shut down the computer without installing the updates.

For the life of me I can't figure out how to get this icon back. I have to bring up the Master Volume Panel to change volume settings. This is a real pain most of the time, as all I want to do is stop a web site from playing some anoying music or turn the volume back on when I need it.

Although the connections work as ever, including normal internet connection, the Local Area Connection icon in the System Tray now has the "warning" symbol with exclamation point. I actually have two problems that I hope someone can give me some insight about:1) if I have several windows open and I try to perform a process like a save or open, windows jumps to a completely different application window. This can happen several times despite using the taskbar to select the specific window I'm trying to use.2) the windows are prone to stall on me, meaning I get the blue/white icon in the upper left corner and the window becomes unresponsive. this has happened with just about every program I use.

I searched and found an answer to someone else's problem which was to exit the "normal" one and both would disappear. They did but the AVG icon is completely gone from the tray. I want to totally remove the tray icon from near the volume one in the taskbar, so that it would not appear while the program is running.
