I recently installed (on my P4 3GHz machine running WinXP SP2) a LogiTech wireless keyboard and mouse combo (MX3200). It seems to be working fine, but I've noticed that ever since I installed the additional software that came with it (for the enhanced features), I've had problems with the speaker icon not loading in the sys tray at startup.

My volume icon is missing from the tool bar. It has happened before, but a few reboots would always bring it back. Now it is gone. I have gone to control panel>sound and audio properties and found the place volume icon in task bar box checked. What can I do next?

Since the last two or three monthly Window updates, that yellow shield icon - the Windows Update icon - no longer shows up in the system tray. I tried to locate it under "previous elements" (I'm translating from German since my computer language is in German), but it's not there. I only know when Window updates have been downloaded when I want to shut down the computer and I have the option to either first install the updates, after which the computer will shut down automatically, or shut down the computer without installing the updates.

For the life of me I can't figure out how to get this icon back. I have to bring up the Master Volume Panel to change volume settings. This is a real pain most of the time, as all I want to do is stop a web site from playing some anoying music or turn the volume back on when I need it.

View 14 Replies View Relatedfew programs began showing up in the System Tray that I didn't want to open.I went to msconfig/General and checked Selective Startup without knowing whether or not I needed to.Then, I went to Startup and deselected those programs.That worked for a while till I went back to misconfig and checked for Normal Startup Since the unwanted programs appeared again in my System Tray, I unchecked them in Normal Startup mode. But when I boot up my computer, I find that I am still in Selective Startup even though I checked for Normal.

I searched and found an answer to someone else's problem which was to exit the "normal" one and both would disappear. They did but the AVG icon is completely gone from the tray. View 6 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is running windows xp home edition. it's packardbell, i bought it recently and updated service pack 2. since then it plays music for couple of minutes and sound goes off along with the volume icon on the taskbar. i tried control panel - sounds - show icon taskbar, but it doesn't work until i restart the comupter. i don't understand what could be wrong.. hardware or software. if it's hardware then the sound icon doesnt' disappear all of a sudden with out an error message.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently reinstalled Windows XP onto my computer, over an existing -- damaged -- installation of XP, on the C: drive. I was warned at the outset of the installation that proceeding could cause some components to function improperly. After the installation, there were 5 "Other Devices" listed in the Device Manager, which I believe were my video card, my audio card (2 separate entries), my ethernet controller, and something else that I don't remember. On another computer, I downloaded the appropriate driver for the ethernet controller, and then installed the driver on the Dimension. I can't get any sound out of my speakers, once the Windows environment has loaded. However, on startup, when the Windows blue screen loads, the greeting jingle we all know and love projects out of my speakers, but then once I'm in the XP environment.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this should be in the Windows XP forum or the software forum, so please excuse me if I chose the wrong one.I've been having this problem for awhile now, and it isn't urgent but quite irritating.For some time now, my volume icon has refused to appear in my taskbar. Every time that I want to change the settings I have to use START -> RUN -> sndvol32.exe, I have tried going into Control Panel -> Sound and setting it so that the volume control will appear in the taskbar when windows starts, but for some reason this setting is wiped when I restart the computer. (I'm not sure if its actually control panel -> sound b/c I'm on a campus CPU right now so I can't check it, but I'm sure you know what I mean... if not I'll repost later when at home)
If anyone has any ideas, please don't hesitate to throw them up here. I am clueless and this is really pissing me off now
The system seems to be very stable at this point in time. I run Norton Utilities and other maintenance sw as well as have a firewall/pest remover/anti-virus. Behavior - most things work fine on the USB ports, either the hub or direct connects. One digital camera will only work when direct connected(not thru the hub). I have a scanner that will only work on a 2003 Compaq Presario, but not on the whitebox on any port. Also, I have had two devices that won't work at all. I have noticed that the USB mass storage device icon doesn't seem to be present now when I attach a flash drive. This is recent behavior and doesn't predate every USB problem.
