I have a new Toshiba laptop with win. xp profesional and I want to make a backup of all my hard drive on the DVD.I chose the backup option from win xp but after the 1st DVD is full doesn't advice me to insert the next DVD, it stops with the message:disc full.
View 2 RepliesI'm looking to upgrade to service pack III,but before I do I want to back up my files, settings and email info. Tried backing up to an extra drive I have using Windows Back up utility. It starts backing up okay, then shuts down as an error message pops up saying there is a 4 Gb limit. Normally, I backed up to DVD's using MS One Step or whatever they called it. Unfortunately, I uninstalled this Utility and I am trying to back up using the systems Windows XP utility. For some reason, XP won't let me back up to DVD's.
View 13 Replies View RelatedHaving problems burning CDs to NEC burner. Keep getting the message that the disc is full. It's just started doing this. Installed firmware 1.07 and it's still not reading the disc properly. Have cleaned it. Have tried to burn using the Windows program (whatever you call it), CDXP and Nero. It will burn one backup of Quickbooks but will not add to the cd. It's like the CD is closed, but it's not.
The option "Automated System Recovery Wizard" shows (at the end before the real start of the backup) the message "The files for the recovery diskette could not be created. The operation was aborted."

The 4mm DAT drive is specified in the GUI but that doesn't seem to carry over to the command line. In the end all I want is a full C: backup and the system state, overwriting whatever tape is in the drive. This is the command from the .bat

I'm having a problem with the PC in that although I use an external hard drive to make sure the PC hard drive is not full and have very little saved on the actual PC, when I look in properties on the 'C' drive by right clicking on the 'C' drive icon, it is showing that there is 118GB used and only 26.1GB free space (total capacity 144GB). But when I go into the 'C' drive and manually explore all the different folders, there is nowhere near this much space used. Probably less than 5Gb that I can account for. I think it is drastically slowing my system, and also every few days I get a message that my computers performance is degraded and that I should defragment. I was under the impression that you didn't need to defragment anywhere near this frequently....

I also created a recovery boot CD made from the same software. Is there a way to use my new recovery CD to boot to my slave partition to see if the puter will boot and to see if the "full image" really is a full image?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I purchased my lap top from Dell 2.5 years ago I made a backup OS CD. The computer did not come with the xp disc. I need to re-install the OS now-computer is slow, sluggish and just acting down right weird. I know its time, so as I gathered up the gutts to do this but when I popped in the cd and began the process it asked for the key number. I dont have that because I made the disc. I just followed the directions when I bought the computer. Now what do i do? I would rather purchase and upgrade to vista but when I ran the program to see if I could, there were some issues, plus its getting old and needs more memory, ram etc. Sooo this is the next best thing untill I breakdown and get a new PC.

Was going ok for about a week then the error messages were non stop. Kept saying windows had to shut down because of a hardware problem, yet never did find out what it was. Anyways i did a total format and am trying to instal winxp again. I have a win98se boot disk. It gets half way through the installation then i get all kinds of error messages about files couldn't be loaded or files not found. Don't these files come from the cd?? it is a original cd that i have. some of the msg are: file i386halacpi.dll not found, syntax error in the .sif file and the list goes on then it says setup cannot continue.

My system totally crashed. I reformatted the drive and reinstall XP. Well, everything seems to be going along just fine until I get to 70% finished with copying installation files and I get message after message saying that the files cannot be copied.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have searched for some weeks now and have seen an increase in people who also found that while viewing in the Full Screen option on You Tube and/or Hulu.com that the "Press Esc to Exit Full Screen" message that appears in the center of the screen does Not fade away after a few seconds. Of course that makes Full Screen viewing unacceptable. I posed the question to the site itself and have never received a reply. One general forum said something about Unlocking certain Files (Adobe) that were found locked because of cookie handling upon installation, but as a novice that is beyond my comprehension.In any case, is anyone aware of a fix for this problem? (That message is not suppose to stay there) I am using Win XP IE8. I tried viewing using the Firefox Browser (3.5.2) and it did not help.

I'm trying to help someone, and they have a folder with the files already available instead of a single backup.bkf file. He wants to restore everything to the original location before the computer restore. How can he do that with the folder he has instead of a backup.bkf file? The restore wizard is asking for a .bkf file to place everything in the original locations, and he doesn't have that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running XP Home on a Sony VAIO. The PC has a partitioned HD: C (main), & D (storage). I defrag every night.
This evening, I got the dreaded "not enough disc space to complete disc defragmenter" message. Suddenly tonight I'm showing only 2% free space on drive C. I went in and changed my System Restore percentage from 12% to 6%. Now I'm showing 6% free space (but still can't defrag).
I shouldn't have had to change my System Restore percentage tho. I'm sure that's not the culprit. Up until last night the C drive was nowhere near this full. Something's there tonight that wasn't yesterday. ...A whole LOT of something. The Defrag graph is showing a nearly FULL C drive with a LOT of red "fragmented" files"
I've been doing a bit of downloading, but after it's on the desktop (part of C), I move it to the D storage drive (which has a LOT of free space remaining).
Something's fishy. I'm no expert, but I'm thinking I need to find some type of application to tell me what's suddenly on that drive taking up all this space. Anyone have any helpful suggestions?
neither wmp 11 or roxio recognizes a blank disc. when i try to burn a disc (dvd or cd) both wmp 11 and roxio tells me to insert a blank disc. i have tried putting a disc in first, or wait for the program to tell me to insert disc but neither way works!:

I left continuity@work running overnight and had to stop it as it was only 50% through the backup this morning.
