Screen Message Press ESC To Exit Full Screen Stays On
Oct 18, 2009
I have searched for some weeks now and have seen an increase in people who also found that while viewing in the Full Screen option on You Tube and/or Hulu.com that the "Press Esc to Exit Full Screen" message that appears in the center of the screen does Not fade away after a few seconds. Of course that makes Full Screen viewing unacceptable. I posed the question to the site itself and have never received a reply. One general forum said something about Unlocking certain Files (Adobe) that were found locked because of cookie handling upon installation, but as a novice that is beyond my comprehension. In any case, is anyone aware of a fix for this problem? (That message is not suppose to stay there) I am using Win XP IE8. I tried viewing using the Firefox Browser (3.5.2) and it did not help.

I got a problem
I use a developer program to make executables (hobby of mine saves me going troppo) called Clarion, it works OK, I made a DOSable program with it, it works OK.
Once I could open to full size DOS screen by pressing the Alt+Enter keys and it would stay open until I was finished with it, then I could revert back to a small screen by pressing Alt+Enter keys again.
Now if I press Alt+Enter keys the DOS screen appears, but it stays open in full screen for a couple of seconds then automatically closes back to the usual small screen.
I have tried right clicking on the icon, properties, screen and putting a dot in the full size option, but this does not work.
I have scanned my PC for viruses etc but no joy there.
I have Dialup only, so don't ask me to do a Panda or Trend scan as they drop you if you no got broadband.
I'm using XP pro, 512meg ram, using a Gigabyte MB, and Nivida video card.
XP working OK-dokie, sound ok-dokie, video ok-dokie, screen to DOS wonkie.
how to fix this?

This all started out that I was having a microphone audio recording problem the other day and was trying to solve that...A couple of days ago, I did a complete HP System Restore on my computer to try to fix the problem, not realizing that it would do all that it did to my computer. Im having to re-install alot of my programs, etc. Now When Im trying to watch a video online, if I click the 'full screen' view it comes up just totally white screen with no picture at
all.

I was surfing on the web and my computer froze on me (Everything froze besides my mouse). So when I restarted my computer, everything was fine until I got to the loading screen (screen with the windows logo and the loading blue bar). I've waited for the longest time ever but the blue bar would keep moving while windows doesnt even bother to load up.I've tried running Windows in safe mode but its still stuck at the loading screen.

I think some files are lost after I improperly shut down the laptop by hold down the power button. So when I start up computer, it stays at Window XP welcome screen, the bar keeps moving continuously, but it goes nowhere. It's a Toshiba Satellite and it comes with a recovery disc, but after it finish loading the disc, nothing happens but black screen and a mouse pointer. I also tried to reinstall everything from that recovery disc but can't.(also tried to hold down C key when laptop is powering up to reformat). When I try to go to safe mode, it shows blue screen then restart again after it stops loading the file. so anyone got any other ideas?it always stays at the welcome screen so i can't even login..

This is a minor nuisance, but I'd like to get to the bottom of it! Every week I get a pop up balloon message from sys. tray warning me anti-virus needs updating - no problem there but after I close the reminder PART OF THE BLACK OUTLINE REMAINS ON DESKTOP! Only solution is to reboot - what could cause this? It's a tad distracting. ALSO How do I insert an animated gif as my signature? When I click in insert pic it asks what text is to be formatted?

I've recently purchased an HP G50 laptop, and decided to wipe off Vista and install XP - I did this with a few laptops before, no problem. However this laptop is proving to be a real headache. It won't boot from the Windows XP install CD at all The furthest I get is at the "Press any key to boot from CD" prompt, then the screen stays black. I booted without the hard drive to see if this was causing the issue, but the problem persisted. The CD had no problem booting on 4 other machines. I tried a different CD and that didn't make the problem go away. The laptop will boot any Linux install/live cd I shoot at it, yet it refuses to boot the Windows XP install CD.

I just joined here and Im having a really abd problem with my computer. The specs that i know for sure) are:I booted my comp a few dyas ago and out of nowhere I get a BSOD before that screen with Windows XP comes up. I say to myself "ok, maybe its just one time" and reboot. I get it yet again and reboot. I finally get to the windows log in screen and I get ANOTHER BSOD after it finished loading. Restarted again, worked fine. I analyze my minidumps and it said the most probably cause of these crashes was hardware. At this point I recall a computer technician saying the capacitators on my mobo were bursting, but this was a good 8 months ago, so Im not sure if its FINALLY giving out or if my RAM thats failing.

friend whose computer has crashed the screen had frozen. He could do nothing except reboot it using the power button but on rebooting, there was a 'no signal' message on a black screen. We have checked the monitor connections (the monitor works when connected to his second computer) and even replaced the video card but of course this made no difference (no signal) We've taken out the HD and installed it on his second system. Does this mean that the most likely cause now is the motherboard/bios or is there something wrong in our approach/deductions

Trying to start my computer and it gets to the screen where it gives me 2 seconds to press F11 to start recovery. But after 2 seconds or pressing F11 or any key, another line appears saying the same thing "Press F11 to start recovery". Can't get past this point and start Windows. HD is recognized in another computer as well as in BIOS.

I have win XP Home and somewhere the next screens quit being full size. I tried the trick used in WIN me of stretching the corners of the screen to make it full size, but the next time it does not come up full size. I don't believe it did this when I first started using WIN XP, but with many program additions, it just started to happen. My PC is a COMPAQ with 2.5 Celeron. PC is only 4 months old.

I have an XP workstation that runs a DOS application that is started up using a PIF file. The DOS app runs fine but does not display a full screen vertically. Horizontially, it displays a full screen since I checked the Full Screen mode in the PIF file parameters. I want to have the entire screen taken up by the display of the DOS program. Two other PCs (one a WIN98 PC and the other a WIN2K PC) display in a complete screen.

I have an Armada e500 laptop running Windows 2000. When I boot it up, the display is not full screen. There is about a 2-3" black border all around the Windows desktop. Its like a miniature version of my desktop? How did I do that? I can't drag the corners or otherwise make it larger by anything I tried. How did this happen? Does this mean my LCD is shot?

I want open IE and see the page displayed in the "Full Screen" mode. No matter how I close IE (6.0 SP2) when I re-open it comes up in what I assume is the default "small cluttered screen" mode. I know how to get my display into "Full Screen" using the View menu drop down or by clicking on the Full Screen icon and by using the F11 key. What I need to know is how to get it to open as a "Full Screen" every time I open IE? Is there a setting I can change so I do not have to manually change into "Full Screen" each time I use IE?

I'm running a dual monitor setup with with Windows XP and a NX6600GT-VTD128 graphics card. Though in my searches, I've come to the repeated answer that what I'm wanting is impossible at this moment in time I suppose it never hurts to ask anyway.
I want to be able to run full screen applications on one monitor and switch to applications on the other without the fullscreen app collapsing to the desktop. Is there any way to do this?
I understand that the alternative to this to just run the full screen app in windowed mode, but not all programs support this. Is there any third party software that can force a program to run in windowed mode?
I'd greatly appreciate any insight anyone may have..thank you for taking the time to help me.

My taskbar becomes unusable in a number of situations. By unusable I mean that I cant use it to select any open programs, open the windows start menu, or select anything from the notification area. IN short it losses all functionality. Programs already launched may be visible, but they can not be selected. Occasional bits of the taskbar are missing (and I can see the desktop background) or they are simple black.

I was looking at a Lenovo desktop that comes with a 19' LCD, and noted that the full screen was not being used by XP. Are there settings in XP that would use the full screen capacity of the 19' LCD, or does XP only use a portion of the total screen area no matter what parameters are changed?
