Blank Screen / Hard Drive Light Blinks Once And Stays Off
Oct 13, 2007
I got this inspiron 1100 off ebay it didn't come with a hard drive so I put the hard drive from my inspiron 9300 into it and when you turn it on the the power light is on and the hard drive light blinks once and stays off. The screen remains black and when i tried to hook it to a montior still nothing black screen. was wondering if i used the wrong kindof hard drive?or am I looking in the wrong direction.
When i turn on,first Windows screen appears, then a blue screen blinks, then hp screen, then a blank page with cursor on the top left, then a screen with the message"we apologise for the inconvinience but Windows did not start successfully.there was a hardware or software problem.I tried to run it in Safe mode, Windows normally, last known configuration but no luck......Then someone suggested to Get into the Recovery Console by making a Recovery CD with ISO image but the machine is not responding to any of it.Is it with CD/DVD ROM drive or any major hardware problem???...I ran a self hard drive test and it seemed fine
I shut off my firewall on my xp pro computer but when I look at the security centre, the green light is still on, indicating that the firewall is still on. This is a new computer that was set up before I got it and I know on my old one, the red light would be on when the firewall is turned off.
My computer is stuck or frozen. The activity light stays on. I have removed all fans and cleaned them, remove battery and replaced after 30 minutes, used a different battery, unplugged all cables. After trying each one, I plugged the computer in again and still activity light stays on. The moniter is black. When I turn it off and on it shows "no signal" on the screen. I also replaced the ram with two 2Gs. What do I do to stop whatever activity is going on?
Well i am trying to install a fresh copy of XP and the CD is bootable and the CD drives all work ok, i have tried 3 different CD Drives but when i goto start the boot sequence i get an message saying:
Searching boot device No emulation
Press any key to boot from CDrom....
I press a key and the cd drive starts off but the screen stays black and does not do anything.
I have never seen the message No Emulation under searching boot device before
New install of OS, all MS security & crit updates. Nothing extra. Few apps installed. When I right click on file(s) in a folder the screen blinks, and I hear the sound of a USB PnP device being added to the system. Of course no evidence of a PnP being installed. No USB devices are attached. All USB ports have been tested and are good. And worst off all - This is intermintant.
PC hangs in any one of the following ways;screen blinks black for a second of so, then returns but is frozen (no mouse movement or anything)screen blinks black and returns but all garbled & corrupted and frozen screen blinks black and monitor says "no input" and promptly turns itself off this usually occurs between half an hour and an hour of turning the PC on.. but the duration is by no means fixed, and it will sometimes only last a few minutes. the same applies after a restart.
After working for sometime with Maxtor One Touch II external drive, I have experienced the following problem: If the computer is left for some period of inactivity, for 1-2 or more hours (the light on the drive is on and not blinking) I cannot access the drive and the OS message is "One touch is not responding". The only remedy is to restart the computer. My System consists of: WindowsXP SP2 and 512 MB Ram The Maxtor OneTouch II drive is connected via a firewire inlet of the computer, the file system being NTFS. The drive is partitioned unto 2 logical drives (~150 GB each)
I am trying to install Windows XP Pro on a second hard drive in my computer, but when i insert the disc it says something about setup scanning the system or something of that nature. Then the screen goes blank and doesn't do anything else. The reason why I dont want to just upgrade is because some things I use dont play nice with XP pro and I want a clean install of it. How can I get my computer to install this second OS properly?
I have searched for some weeks now and have seen an increase in people who also found that while viewing in the Full Screen option on You Tube and/or Hulu.com that the "Press Esc to Exit Full Screen" message that appears in the center of the screen does Not fade away after a few seconds. Of course that makes Full Screen viewing unacceptable. I posed the question to the site itself and have never received a reply. One general forum said something about Unlocking certain Files (Adobe) that were found locked because of cookie handling upon installation, but as a novice that is beyond my comprehension. In any case, is anyone aware of a fix for this problem? (That message is not suppose to stay there) I am using Win XP IE8. I tried viewing using the Firefox Browser (3.5.2) and it did not help.
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps.Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard disks or hard drive controllers.Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.
I was surfing on the web and my computer froze on me (Everything froze besides my mouse). So when I restarted my computer, everything was fine until I got to the loading screen (screen with the windows logo and the loading blue bar). I've waited for the longest time ever but the blue bar would keep moving while windows doesnt even bother to load up.I've tried running Windows in safe mode but its still stuck at the loading screen.
I think some files are lost after I improperly shut down the laptop by hold down the power button. So when I start up computer, it stays at Window XP welcome screen, the bar keeps moving continuously, but it goes nowhere. It's a Toshiba Satellite and it comes with a recovery disc, but after it finish loading the disc, nothing happens but black screen and a mouse pointer. I also tried to reinstall everything from that recovery disc but can't.(also tried to hold down C key when laptop is powering up to reformat). When I try to go to safe mode, it shows blue screen then restart again after it stops loading the file. so anyone got any other ideas?it always stays at the welcome screen so i can't even login..
This is a minor nuisance, but I'd like to get to the bottom of it! Every week I get a pop up balloon message from sys. tray warning me anti-virus needs updating - no problem there but after I close the reminder PART OF THE BLACK OUTLINE REMAINS ON DESKTOP! Only solution is to reboot - what could cause this? It's a tad distracting. ALSO How do I insert an animated gif as my signature? When I click in insert pic it asks what text is to be formatted?
A portion of my Start menu stays on my screen after I click on it until I do something like open a new window. Here are some screenshots: http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/8...enuportion.jpg --- AFTER I close the Start menuhttp://img166.imageshack.us/img166/8...rtmenufull.jpg --- BEFORE I close the Start menu
Having suffered 3 HDD failures, I have cloned my laptop hard drive (XP Home edition) with Norton Ghost 9.0. I have copied the MBR as well and made it active. Replaced the laptop drive with the cloned drive, but it only boots up to the XP light blue screen and stalls.
I've recently purchased an HP G50 laptop, and decided to wipe off Vista and install XP - I did this with a few laptops before, no problem. However this laptop is proving to be a real headache. It won't boot from the Windows XP install CD at all The furthest I get is at the "Press any key to boot from CD" prompt, then the screen stays black. I booted without the hard drive to see if this was causing the issue, but the problem persisted. The CD had no problem booting on 4 other machines. I tried a different CD and that didn't make the problem go away. The laptop will boot any Linux install/live cd I shoot at it, yet it refuses to boot the Windows XP install CD.
I just joined here and Im having a really abd problem with my computer. The specs that i know for sure) are:I booted my comp a few dyas ago and out of nowhere I get a BSOD before that screen with Windows XP comes up. I say to myself "ok, maybe its just one time" and reboot. I get it yet again and reboot. I finally get to the windows log in screen and I get ANOTHER BSOD after it finished loading. Restarted again, worked fine. I analyze my minidumps and it said the most probably cause of these crashes was hardware. At this point I recall a computer technician saying the capacitators on my mobo were bursting, but this was a good 8 months ago, so Im not sure if its FINALLY giving out or if my RAM thats failing.
tried to back up("burn" ) some files onto a cd but it is not recognizing when I put a blank cd in the drive. Also, in properties it shows that the drive is full...this is with the blank cd!
i have a dual boot system xp / vista64 all of a sudden my computer takes a long time to boot it stays on the splash screen for about 10 minutes before showing me the boot selection screen what could be the problem?
I got a black screen, and the hard drive wouldn't boot. I took 3 old hard drives that I thought were still good, but after I formatted each one, I got a message that the hard drive was damaged . . . something else was wrong, like an improper connection . . . finally, I hooked up a new Hitachi Hard Drive, and formatted it . . . and lo and behold I'm getting the same message.
It's possible the 3 older hard drives could have become damaged, but when the brand new Hitachi gives me the same message
I just bought a Seagate ST3400620NS SATA HDD. I want to install it as a second HDD just for storage. I currently have a ST380815AS with the OS (XP SP3) on it as the primary drive. The PC (HP DC570 SFF) boots fine with only the primary drive installed. When I add the 2nd HDD the the system recognizes that I have added a 2nd HDD. It asks me to save the settings by pressing F1. I do that. The XP boot screens displays. The blue progress bar moves once and the system reboots. I switched SATA connectors for the 2nd HDD but when I boot I get a message that I need to move the connector back to the original spot. Then I thought maybe the MOBO (Hewlett-Packard 0A64h ) only supported 1.5 gb/s. Not the case. So I am totally stumped. I checked HPs website to see if there were any updates, and there was an advisory that a different model Seagate HDD might cause a similar sounding problem but no mention of the model HDD that I own.
I have not been able to get past a dark screen for two days. I have rebooted about 10 to 15 times. One of those times it attempted to do a scan disc but failed to complete. One time I got the XP loading screen, but it failed also. If I turn the moniter off then on, I get the moniter logo followed by NO SYNC. I am not a pc guru, but I think the hard drive may be dead.
During the process of setting of windows while reformatting my hard drive. The screen when black, when it came back it said that there was a problem and to keep from doing damage to your computer, windows was shutting down. It said to restart computer and that if the problem continued then the following steps should be followed. In bios disable the memory cache If you have new hardware disconnect the new hardware, uninstall drivers and programs. I tried several times to finish the reformatting but to no avail. I am using windows xp CD.
I need some big help with my laptop. Im not too sure what or how its happen but I turn my laptop on 2day after using late last night, powered it on and Im not to sure if this has anything to do with whats happened but I walked away and trip up on the plug for the laptop and when I turned around to login to XP it was black with the screen saying no operating system found with the hard drive making a funny clicking sound. Its a Sony Vaio Model PCG-6N1L and its from the U.S.(and I'm in the UK atm )
1.I have a dell digital jukebox mp3 player that allows for storage of data or music. I tried to copy a 600mb file from the mp3 player onto my hard drive. I had a little over 600 mb of space left on my hard drive (a total storage capacity of 6GB). It said i had run out of space. So i deleted some files, move some things around and i had 1.1 GB of space free for this transfer. i tried again and this time again the message i got was not enough space on drive c:/. So i cancelled out and checked to see what i had on my hard drive, 500mb free!!!?? So i have lost hard drive space and not gain a file...So i investigated and found that i have 1.81 GB of data on c: documents settingsuser. but once i get into user, i have 6 folders none of which display nearly that much data. They are, favorites, start menu, cookies, desktop, my documents, and a file named ntuser. the ntuser file is 1mb, and my desktop has 700 or so mb on it. So my question is how can i get back this lost hd space,
2.Blue screen. Im on xp pro sp1, i use adaware, registry mechanic, and im generally tidy with my windows; note, reinstalling windows did not solve this. I never used to have this issue, but lately when i go to open or close certain programs i jump to blue screen. it references trixdp.dll i think it was, and then "begin physical dump of memory" i must reboot at this point. I use VLC media player, and exiting this program mandates a blue screen. Just now i exited mozilla browser and this was the first time i got blue screen from this program.
i am running windows xp pro, i ran into the blue screen of death 3 days ago,i fix it but when i turn on the computer everything was like it was brand new.all of my folders n files were gone off my desktop.all of my music n videos r gone. and the crazy thing about all this is,when i click on my c drive its showin the same gigs that was being use before the blue screen.its like everything is there but invincible.
When starting my computer, I have started getting a "Hard Drive Not Found" error on the black screen just as the pc starts booting up. I've not written down all the details, but I see the MAC address displayed and a cursor blinks just after the letters DHCP, there is something about "boot filename not received", then "Hard Drive not found" and then it defaults to the Windows boot screen and will boot up fine. The pc seems to run normal once up...but, I'm somewhat concerned about a "Hard Drive Not Found" error. It just doesn't sound good. I'm going to try to get more specifics as to what I'm seeing on the boot screens, but wondered if anyone here might have some suggestions as to what my issue is?
My pc specs should show in my signature. Also, I recently upgraded my graphics card, but that's the only hardware I've been playing with lately. Don't know if that would make any difference because I wasn't getting any trouble until now and that graphics card has been in about a week already.
I have windows xp professional sp2, I uninstalled Symantec Antivirus then rebooted computer. Went through bios load screen then came a black screen (no hard drive activity or nothing) and stays black with no hard drive activity or anything for about 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes I get the Windows XP loading screen then boots as normal.
Prior to me uninstalling symantec it went straight from bios screens to windows xp loading screen almost immediately. The reason I uninstalled antivirus was I wanted to try a different antivirus
