I just installed Paragon Exact Image 7.0 and sent a full image of my C Drive to a partition on my slave drive. I also created a recovery boot CD made from the same software. Is there a way to use my new recovery CD to boot to my slave partition to see if the puter will boot and to see if the "full image" really is a full image?
View 3 RepliesI'm looking ahead to the time when an attempt to do an Acronis Create Image will not be possible because there is not enough room on my external hard drive. Presently, I run a fresh Create Image monthly and now have three versions on my external drive. I can probably store a total of 5-6 before I run out of space.
Do you know what will happen when I attempt to run a Create Image and find that there is not enough room for another file?
And, does Acronis then give me a way to delete the oldest file from the E drive, or must I use some other facility, such as clicking on the oldest and selecting 'delete this file' from the selections in the vertical window on the left of the screen?
I'm creating a .bat to run a backup job and it keeps failing. The event log says that no media was specified. The job works fine if I load it to the GUI. The 4mm DAT drive is specified in the GUI but that doesn't seem to carry over to the command line. In the end all I want is a full C: backup and the system state, overwriting whatever tape is in the drive. This is the command from the .bat

I'm using Windows 2000 SP4.After a major meltdown and reformat I am resolved to implement a backup and restore plan.I have a basic set up I like - it rarely changes - of certain software and documents/files structure.Is there a way to completely backup a Windows 2000 installation - with full program, registry and file support - so that if need be it can be restored with one fell swoop?I have heard of Norton Ghost but some reviews I read on Version 9 have me a bit skeptical of trying it.

What I want to do is make a bootable backup image that will self install without windows in case of an operating system failure where windows is unavailable. I want to image my C drive and make it so I can boot from CDR or DVDR and have it format the drive and reinstall my backup identical to the original. A long time ago I saw this done with Symantec Ghost on a job I was on but have no idea how to accomplish the task myself. I was wondering if there is perhaps a better software out there now for making a total self restoring image of your haed drive such as this.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with understanding the differences between these words (actions), when I use Retrospect,( a backup program,) I cannot read any files since the backup file turns into a huge something. When I backup, I mean I copy my files from one drive to an external drive and I can always restore them or copy them to another computer. These are for my files.
When I want to re-install a program, I take the original disk or the zip file I downloaded, stored on CD or another external hard drive.
I use full screen programs, usually games, my pc automatically minimizes the program to show the desktop. anyone experience this? i think it is from a program i installed coz everytime i reformat my pc.

Once restored I cannot access the folder because it says "Access is Denied". I am the administrator with full access. Moreover after restoring gigabytes I cannot delete it either I have permission to see that files in the restore program.Now after working on it for awhile I noticed that I can restore the folder to its original location, but when I tell it to restore to an alternate location it prevents me from accessing it.So anyone know how I can delete the folder that denies me access?

I'm trying to help someone, and they have a folder with the files already available instead of a single backup.bkf file. He wants to restore everything to the original location before the computer restore. How can he do that with the folder he has instead of a backup.bkf file? The restore wizard is asking for a .bkf file to place everything in the original locations, and he doesn't have that.

continuity@work from Mobiliti who claim to be able to just backup the changes to a PST file. I left continuity@work running overnight and had to stop it as it was only 50% through the backup this morning. It calls it synchronization rather than backup and from the error messages it seems that it doesn't create a shadow image before backing up as several files were not backed up as they were in use.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI made the dreadful mistake of turning on my computer just to remove a CD and then quickly turning it back off again without properly shutting down. I was shocked on Saturday morning to turn on my Computer and receive the "Unmountable Boot Volume" blue screen. I have tried everything - chkdsk /r, chkdsk, /p and nothing seems to work. I ran a diagnostic test as my computer passed but I can't figure out how to make it boot up again. I think there may be just one little step I must be missing or is there any other alternative that I can try before I have to reinstall Windows all over again???????? In my gut I don't believe there is anything seriously wrong with my computer - just my poor judgement in not shutting down correctly.

I am trying to create a full HD image of my Dell c800 Laptop using Drive Image 7 (circa 2003) to an USB HD. I have tried twice and received failures about my HD having bad sectors OR locked sectors. I ran check disc with repair and did not find any problems. Re-ran check disc from the boot disc that came with the application and found no problems with the disc. Tried again for a backup and received the same error. I am thinking it is one of the programs I have loaded has a locked sector or one of my processes that loads during boot is the problem?
