Toshiba Satellite A85 S107 has the following message:
"Windows Root>System32NTOSKRNL.exe. Re-install a copy of the above file." Can't get into Safe Mode or Setup and it will not boot to cd rom. Took out the HD and it's readable as a slave. Put it back in and now getting the following message:For Realtek RT8139(X)/8130/810X PCI FAst Eathernet Controller V2.13 (020326)

I am trying to install Win XP Pro on my laptop. After the setup started, I got a screen where it had radio buttons corresponding to the stage of the installation i.e.
first radio button option saying "Collecting information"
second saying "Dynamic Update"
third saying "Preparing installation"
fourth saying "Installing Windows" and
fifth saying "Finalizing installation"
The system never goes beyond third option i.e Preparing installation. I am now getting an alert saying "lsass.exe" - System error
the monitor works fine(tried it on another computer) all cables are good the AGP video card works(tried it on another computer) mother board gets power, u can hear the HD and etc startup, but i get the error message on the monitor "self test check your pc and signal cable monitor is working" my knowlege is that, since the monitor and video card worked with another computer, and in my main computer the video card is powered, and the fan is on, somemother thing is not allowing the signal the mother board to the video card to the monitor

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows XP Homedition. I have two drives inside, the regular C: drive and I have a Slave drive F: with all my photos and music and documents. The problem I'm having is that everytime I restart or reboot my system it say it needs to check F: drive for consistency. It haven't been doing that until now. Then once it goes through that the system comes up. I try to click on an icon like my internet or registry program, nothing comes up, its like a read only file or something. Its not executing the program. THEN all of a sudden I get a blue screen. It says this::"Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacture for driver updates. try changing video adapters. "Check with your hardware vendor for aany BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use SAFE mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advance SStartup options, and then select Safe Mode."

If just after making the switch on, I press F2 key to check the boot device preference
If just after making the switch on , I press f11 key to reach the boot menu I always find the 1.44 MB Floppy option highlighted as the booting choice.(though there had not been any floppy in the floppy drive, I dont have any really)I make the hard disk option highlighted & it solves the problem only a few times. But next time when I try F11 key to check the boot menu again I find 1.44 MB floppy highlighted.
Could anyone explain to me the difference between doing an error check at boot up and doing a scannow check.
A friend had a virus and after seeming to get everything cleaned now occassionally gets, on shutdown, a message containing 0x0000007F and "something about a Kernal". Looking up that error code in the KB says one thing to do is test the RAM with diagnostic software. Can someone tell me what software I'd use? Is it part of Windows XP Home?
View 11 Replies View Relatedwhen i run chdisk for errors in win 2000 by right clicking the hard drive icon and then clicking properties of c: harddrive, then tools tab, then click the check now button, and in the check disk options ticking "automatically fix file system errors" and clicking ok I get this message "The disk check could not be performed because exclusive access to the drive could not be obtained. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer."If i chose yes to that above it performs the diskcheck at reboot and when windows loads i go back to the checkdisk and i get the same problem again.

I was shocked on Saturday morning to turn on my Computer and receive the "Unmountable Boot Volume" blue screen. I have tried everything - chkdsk /r, chkdsk, /p and nothing seems to work. I ran a diagnostic test as my computer passed but I can't figure out how to make it boot up again. I think there may be just one little step I must be missing or is there any other alternative that I can try before I have to reinstall Windows all over again???????? In my gut I don't believe there is anything seriously wrong with my computer - just my poor judgement in not shutting down correctly.

View 14 Replies View RelatedHaving recently had someone else using my computer for a while, installing various software (like winamp and SubEdit player) it seems windows media player (that's what I use) no longer recognises the usual files as media files like .mp3 .wmv .m3u .avi etc etc so when I click open file and select "media files (all types)" in the file type box it shows nothing, so I have to change it to all files which is irritating. Media player still plays everything fine but this is pretty annoying.

Error check runs fine, and makes 5 checks. At the 5th check at about 98% you better be there and when it hits 100% be a quick reader so you can see if there are any bad clusters. The screen stays there about 3 seconds and then disappears. If you have bad clusters the HD might be going bad. Question. The file may have been tampered with or it was partially signed but not fully signed with the correct private key.I have the original installation disk from Dell, but it won't recognise the key that came with the pc to re install it. View 6 Replies View RelatedThe Dell 8250 Pentium IV computer will not recognize the new master 160 GHZ or the origional, now slave, 40 GHZ, Hard drives. All the connections and jumpers are installed correctly. I tried a new motherboard and a new cable, both did not resolve this problem. Even ran a diagnostic program called "Tuff Test", running at boot up and the RAM and all other items checked OK, showing all working properly. The BIOS, now set to boot up correctly, off the proper drive, seems to recognize both removable drives and the floppy, but not the hard drives.
When I received the computer it was password protected. after asking and waiting for a week, with no response, I therefore, in safe mode,entered the BIOS and chose for it to boot off of the CD Rw that I thought was the proper and shut the Hard Drive off. Here the CD RW was a slave and not the master. No luck in installing the OS. I bought a new 160 GHZ HD with the thought that I could load the OS, again no luck. I replaced the battery and tried again with no luck.
I run two hard drives. C: and f:. F: is my primary and C: is the slave. If
I boot from C: I can run msconfig. If I boot from F:, I cannot run msconfig
without first removing the cable from the c: HD and rebooting. If I run
sysedit while in the f: drive, it shows autoexec.bat and config.sys from the
c: drive and win.ini from the f: drive. How can I change the autoexec.bat to
run from the f: drive on boot up
