Aug 12, 2005I would like to test the speed of USB 2.0 flash drive read write speed test. Is there any software to test such drive reasonably accurate?

Apr 20, 2006There is a website that I have been attending for 4 years now, in which you can play games, chat, ect ect.They have what is called a "Speed Test" to test your computer in many different areas (3-D, Text, Pixels, Math, ect.) that you can take for free, by just logging in as a guest.All you have to do is come up with a nickname, login, go to SINGLE PLAYER tab at the bottom left of your screen, click it, then go to the second or third to last game, on the bottom right of your screen, and click it (Greyish box).Up comes the speed test...Just click start (make sure you have everything closed out on the screen as it takes your computer through several speed tests)In no way is this some kind of promo or anything, its just a really COOL way to test your computer.

Dell Laptop Boot Memory Write / Read Failure
Jan 8, 2005When I boot my Dell Inspiron 3800 laptop I get an error message. The background is black and in white text at the top of the screen it reads, "Memory write/read failure at 10000000 read 00ef02ee expected before 00ef00ef decreasing available memory. Does anyone out there know what this means or how to fix this?

Oct 15, 2006All of the folders on my hard drive show up as read only(none of the files do though). All of my programs work except running hldsupdatetool to make a dedicated source server when I get a connection error. If i uncheck the read only, it immediately returns. I also tried moving hldsupdatetool to a flash drive to only have the same problem. I also tried starting in safe mode and was still unable to make anything not read only.

Jan 27, 2007Every time I try to install SP2 either from microsoft's web site or from a copy of the actual file, i get an error message that reads "cannot read or write to the database" and the install stops. It will go through everything except installing the program (i.e. check my key, check the system, backup files etc). What would cause this and how might I fix it? I'm running XP Pro.

Jul 3, 2008Unfortunatly, a major thunderstorm passed thru my area and my computer was shut down hard and when I brought it up Windows was trashed, missing system files, some noise about disk-drive errors, etc. So I had to install Windows on another drive on the system. I can copy files from anywhere on the drive to the new windows drive except for "my documents" WEHRE OF COURSE Visual Studio Projects, Word documents, IPod, etc, everything, my important stuff is being kept being kept. The message I get is "Access is denied"
When I bring the system up in Safe Mode with networking and look at the security permission tab for that folder I see that my SID Is not there. When I try and add it (my user ID) it validates it and it looks like I can now have access to it, great, but when I click apply the response is "media is write protected" cannot apply permission changes. When I try and copy a file from my new windows drive to the original I get the message Drive is write protected
Try to defrag it from new windows - same message
Try to repair it from new windows - same message
Can anyone tell me where I could find this media write protect switch and where to change it. Windows XP, NTFS all drives, SCSI

Apr 20, 2006I had a problem with my windows. When ever I plug in my Flash drive (i got a few: kingston data traveller 1gig, pendrive 128mb,etc) onto my usb port. Window will be able to detect the drive had been plug in. I can see the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the right side of my task bar. But i cannot see the drive appearing in "My Computer". If I double click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon and try to view the external drive information, I can see that its already detected and being assign with drive E: . Even if I open a windows explorer and type in E: , it will throw me an error "Cannot find 'file:///E:/'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct". But if I were to restart my computer, then i can see it for the first time. If I disconnect it (thru the "Safely Remove Hardware") and plug it back in (or plug another flash drive), I cant see the external drive. Causing I had to restart my computer multiple time a day.

Oct 8, 2006I have been having problems on my Windows XP for almost a week. It started when I opened my computer nearly a week ago. Windows XP was so slow. I also notice that it cannot detetc my drive D. As you can see, my hard disk is partition into two. Windows XP is installed on drive C. I put some of my files on drive D. They are both 20 GB each (My hard disk is 40 GB). When I double-click it it displays that it drive D is not yet formatted and Windows XP will ask if I want to format it. I never remove or tamper its partition. I tried using "repair" in the Windows XP Installation Menu when I tried booting the Windows XP CD. The problem still wasn't fixed.
I also boot a windows 98 CD so that I can boot into DOS. However when I use DOS to access my drive D. It works fine. It seems that only Windows XP cannot read my drive D. Windows XP also runs so slow. Furthermore, when I tried using the "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" option when starting windows to access drive D, it states CRC "Cyclic Redundancy something..."
Assigning Already Used Drive Letter To USB Flash Drive?
Jul 14, 2005On our WinXP systems (SP1 & 2), when users attempt to us usb flash drives, sometimes the O/S tries to assign an already used network drive letter to the device, making it unaccessible. Of course, the non-admin users can't use drive manager to change the drive letter. Is their a way around this problem?

I can right click and assign a drive letter, but still does not appear on 'my computer'.I can still open it after assigning a drive letter in 'manage' and read/write files from a new window.I'm suspecting BIOS? Jul 5, 2010I'm using a sandisk cruzer to try to install windows on my new rig. I've got a legit windows key, and serial number. Just lost the CD a long time ago, and don't have a sata Drive. Now, there is windows XP on my current sata harddrive but it is incompatable with the system (it was installed on another system.) So sense I don't got any DVD/CD burners, or any way of buying one for a month. I looked into making my USB flash drive bootable. I've used the HP USB Disk Formating tool to format it with FAT32, and dos Windows 98 files (Command,IO.sys,MSDOS.sys) thinking this would make it bootable. Tossed A version of windows XP I downloaded SP3, onto the drive, appatempted to boot it, but when I boot the flash drive with my gigabyte X38 DS4, it just loads windows 98 for half a second and brings me to a DOS C:. which was similer when I tried to install windows 7 from my USB drive where as that brought me 2 windows ME dos screen. It seems not to autorun so I don't really know how to partition my disk, format, and install a fresh coppy of windows.

On his he said it'd show up as a drive (H:), but when he tried to open it, it gave the error. You don't have to install any drivers (at least you didn't on mine. It came with no cd.
