View 8 Replies View RelatedUnfortunatly, a major thunderstorm passed thru my area and my computer was shut down hard and when I brought it up Windows was trashed, missing system files, some noise about disk-drive errors, etc. So I had to install Windows on another drive on the system. I can copy files from anywhere on the drive to the new windows drive except for "my documents" WEHRE OF COURSE Visual Studio Projects, Word documents, IPod, etc, everything, my important stuff is being kept being kept. The message I get is "Access is denied"
When I bring the system up in Safe Mode with networking and look at the security permission tab for that folder I see that my SID Is not there. When I try and add it (my user ID) it validates it and it looks like I can now have access to it, great, but when I click apply the response is "media is write protected" cannot apply permission changes. When I try and copy a file from my new windows drive to the original I get the message Drive is write protected
Try to defrag it from new windows - same message
Try to repair it from new windows - same message

View 43 Replies View RelatedI protected my personal files in WXP and made an Acronis true image of the disk. After a disk crash, I rebuilt a new disk instead of using the image but want to get to my personal files by using the Acronis image mount utility. The tool works pretty well, the image looks like drive "G" when mounted and I can see all of my files, except for the personal ones. My new WXP load has the same user name, password, and computer name as the old one did. However, the NTFS security will not let me see or take ownership of my personal files. I dont want to have to restore the old image just to get my files but will if I have to. Any ideas for an easier way?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm curious. Is it possible to take my current copy of XP that came with my computer, uninstall it / remove it onto a flash drive / cd (even transfer it to my laptop) and then use it on a new computer that I'm going to get? They are charging $80-100 for a copy of XP and this could significantly reduce my price. I would also need to know how to install it on this new computer if this is possible, which is unlikely.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy USB flash disk is no longer recognized by XP on my Toshiba laptop, nor is my USD card reader, and it will not allow me to even install it although I have the driver disk. I have tried downloading drivers from MSN, service packs, gone through set up in the device manager, EVERYTHING! My flash disk works on every other computer but mine. I did get a couple of trojans, but I deleted them with MCafee and cleaned them as well.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using XP and would like to regularly transfer files as a backup to a usb stick. As the capacity of the USB stick is limited, I will have to delete older backups when I run my scheduled transfer of new files. I usually have these files encrypted as they are confidential. My question is where do they go if I delete them on the USB stick? Are they ending up on my harddrive or in the recycle bin of the harddrive from where they can still be retrieved later on? Do USB sticks have their own recycle bin or some area where deleted files slumber?
