USB Flash Memory Recognizing As Disk Drive
Apr 8, 2006When I plug in my USB Flash memory, it is automatically recognized as a disk drive. When I try to access it, it asks me to insert a disk.

Jul 18, 2005i bought a lexarmedia 512mb drive.. XP Pro won't recognize it.. i inserted it into every USB port on my system same message then into another computer it works great.device manager says the different USB ports are working correctly and i've never had any issues with any other USB hardware before

Jun 8, 2005I have a USB 512-meg flash drive; brand new, outta the box. I used it on my computer at home with no problem--I plug it in, the computer recognizes it and it shows as another drive. However, my computer at work recognizes it and says "your device is ready to use" but it doesn't show up as a drive so I can't get into it. I've done the whole "troubleshoot" bit to no avail.Is there a way I can go to it manually or...? How can I see it so I can double click on it and get to the contents?

Mar 22, 2005I just had Win XP Pro installed on my machine. Primary HD is 80 GB. The drive previously ran Win 98 SE. The tech formatted it and installed Win XP Pro. System runs fine and all appears to function OK. However, the drive capacity is not accurately displayed anywhere in the system (other than BIOS). I'm trying to find out how I can have the drive space accurately displayed.

Jul 27, 2010My DVD drive was working fine and I was burning discs. Now for some reason I get error Disc is not writable insert a writable disc. I tried 5 different blank discs and got the same answer. So I ran Microsoft Fix it and got the message that this drive is not writable. The drive is a dvd burner but Windows XP is only seeing it as a CD drive.

Feb 10, 2009I am using Intel pentium 4 cpu 2.40GHz, 1.25 GB RAM. Iam using 80 GB samsung hard disk.
I installed Microsoft Windows XP Professional service pack 2 on a drive of 10 GB memory space with NTFS file system.
After the installation of Win XP, the drive properties shows 4.9 GB of used memory and only 4.45 GB of free memory, but when I try to find total memory occupied for all the files in that drive (using "select-all" and properties) the used memory is only 2.3 GB only.
Now I don't understand the huge difference of this memories calculations. Where that extra used memory gone, when the total memory occupied by all the files is much less.

Apr 20, 2006I had a problem with my windows. When ever I plug in my Flash drive (i got a few: kingston data traveller 1gig, pendrive 128mb,etc) onto my usb port. Window will be able to detect the drive had been plug in. I can see the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the right side of my task bar. But i cannot see the drive appearing in "My Computer". If I double click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon and try to view the external drive information, I can see that its already detected and being assign with drive E: . Even if I open a windows explorer and type in E: , it will throw me an error "Cannot find 'file:///E:/'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct". But if I were to restart my computer, then i can see it for the first time. If I disconnect it (thru the "Safely Remove Hardware") and plug it back in (or plug another flash drive), I cant see the external drive. Causing I had to restart my computer multiple time a day.

As the capacity of the USB stick is limited, I will have to delete older backups when I run my scheduled transfer of new files. I usually have these files encrypted as they are confidential. My question is where do they go if I delete them on the USB stick? Are they ending up on my harddrive or in the recycle bin of the harddrive from where they can still be retrieved later on? Do USB sticks have their own recycle bin or some area where deleted files slumber?

Jul 5, 2010I'm using a sandisk cruzer to try to install windows on my new rig. I've got a legit windows key, and serial number. Just lost the CD a long time ago, and don't have a sata Drive. Now, there is windows XP on my current sata harddrive but it is incompatable with the system (it was installed on another system.) So sense I don't got any DVD/CD burners, or any way of buying one for a month. I looked into making my USB flash drive bootable. I've used the HP USB Disk Formating tool to format it with FAT32, and dos Windows 98 files (Command,IO.sys,MSDOS.sys) thinking this would make it bootable. Tossed A version of windows XP I downloaded SP3, onto the drive, appatempted to boot it, but when I boot the flash drive with my gigabyte X38 DS4, it just loads windows 98 for half a second and brings me to a DOS C:. which was similer when I tried to install windows 7 from my USB drive where as that brought me 2 windows ME dos screen. It seems not to autorun so I don't really know how to partition my disk, format, and install a fresh coppy of windows.

His computer is only about 2 yrs old. Anyway, he ask me if I'd copy the free programs ad-aware and spybot, since it takes him so long to download anything, which I did. I gave him the drive, but when he tried to access it, he said it gave him an I/O error. His computer wouldn't read it. I brought it home and plugged it in and it works fine on my machine. On his he said it'd show up as a drive (H:), but when he tried to open it, it gave the error. You don't have to install any drivers (at least you didn't on mine. It came with no cd. Will this drive only work on my machine or what.
