Computer Ruined. Trying To Write Zeros Through Dos. Ghost Administrator Wont Allow
Jan 23, 2009I have Windows XP with sp2 i believe. I purchased this computer back in 2005 so its pretty old but i havent had many problems with it until recently. I didnt have internet for about 2 years so my comp was safe from viruses and whatnot. i just got internet about 2 months ago and since then my girlfriend has been downloading numerous files through frostwire, many containing viruses. I have an 80gig hard drive that has 2 partitions. one is my C: drive and the other is my D: drive which is my recovery drive. My computer did not come with any sort of recovery disk, only the 2nd partition on my hard drive

So, after installing Windows Vista as a "dual boot" operating system, I switched the DVD drives back so the Pioneer DVR-106D = MASTER and the Pioneer 116 = SLAVE. Now I have a write problem to the Pioneer DVR-106D drive. When I attempt to either copy a DVD or just burn a data disk, I get an "INTERNAL TARGET FAILURE" error message. Happens every time now.As my system is already set up as a "Dual Boot" operating system with Windows XP & Vista, I cannot format my "C" drive and reinstall Windows XP to fix this problem.QUESTION: Does anyone know how to correct this problem without formatting and reinstalling Windows xp?

Jul 3, 2008Unfortunatly, a major thunderstorm passed thru my area and my computer was shut down hard and when I brought it up Windows was trashed, missing system files, some noise about disk-drive errors, etc. So I had to install Windows on another drive on the system. I can copy files from anywhere on the drive to the new windows drive except for "my documents" WEHRE OF COURSE Visual Studio Projects, Word documents, IPod, etc, everything, my important stuff is being kept being kept. The message I get is "Access is denied"
When I bring the system up in Safe Mode with networking and look at the security permission tab for that folder I see that my SID Is not there. When I try and add it (my user ID) it validates it and it looks like I can now have access to it, great, but when I click apply the response is "media is write protected" cannot apply permission changes. When I try and copy a file from my new windows drive to the original I get the message Drive is write protected
Try to defrag it from new windows - same message
Try to repair it from new windows - same message
Can anyone tell me where I could find this media write protect switch and where to change it. Windows XP, NTFS all drives, SCSI
Missed A Few Zeros In The Codes
Nov 29, 2008stop: 0x00000050 Does this mean anything to anyone?I tried installing Windows Xp SP3 on a new hard drive and then this happened when it said windows is booting or something like that.I may have missed a few zeros in the codes, as its a bit hard to distinguish how many there are when they are all bunched together.

Jan 23, 2009This is really starting to aggravate me. I fixed a computer for a guy by re-installing Windowx XP on it with Service Pack 2. He installed Service Pack 3 after I specifically said "DO NOT INSTALL SERVICE PACK 3!!!". Anyways, it started acting funny so I have it back. Now when it starts up I get a black screen full of zeros on it right after the Gateway screen. I am trying to put a fresh copy of Windows XP on it, but all of the writing is jumbled and the zeros remain. Anyone experience this and know how to make it display correctly again? Everything looks fine once it gets into Windows or on the Gateway bootup screen, just the "dos" screens have zeros on them and I cannot do anything with it like this.

I had downloaded one version of linux and was able to see the files on the internal hard drive, but was unable to copy them to a memory stick or external hard drive. Aug 5, 2010My laptop died and I removed the hard drive.i hooked the hard drive up to my new laptop via a SATA/IDE cable.
I can see the old hard drive in the E drive and it appears that all the contents are there by the size of the hard drive (same as when I had it in the old laptop) but I can only see, actually view, a very small percentage of the drive.

My wife has an old XP computer I want to buy her a new one but she doesn't like the vista and she wants to keep the old xp operating system. What I want to do is take the old hard drive and put it in the new computer as the master and take the new hard drive and put it in as the slave erasing the vista off it. Then using the master slave way can I transfer the xp operating system and all her files and data from the old hard drive to the new one.

I tried the repair command and it wouldn't work, so I decided to save the files and reformat the hard drive).I plugged the hard drive into a working computer and pulled all the documents off of it (VERY slowly) onto an external hard drive.
Every once in awhile I wouldn't be able to pull a picture or document off because of a cyclic redundancy check error. I just moved on and saved what I could. I assumed it was because the hard drive was already bad so I just moved what I could.

Feb 23, 2009I turned the PC off to reboot when I though I was going into safe mode and went into regular mode instead. Now, it thinks one of my external drives is the C drive. On boot, I am getting a message that it cannot recognize find the system 32 windows config file (I'm paraphrasing).
I used the repair utility to get to the C prompt (which is pointed at the external drive) and checked the drive letters. I don't think the PC bios knows the hard drive is there.
I tried going into setup and reverting to factory installed configuration and that didn't change anything. I could not get it to recognize the hard drive.
