Each time log in. When i log in,it shows unable to find SVCHOST.exe.Please check the path of the file. Previously,i ended the svchost.exe process suspecting it for virus.From then on am having this problem.In Start menu i have lost some utilities like paint,calculator.

I've been troubled by viruses and trojans on an older computer (Pentium4) and decided to reinstall XP from the disc to see if I can "start over". I have another primary computer, so it doesn't hurt me to lose all the files etc. I'd rather start with a clean slate. Anyway, the XP install from the disc with SP1 went fine. Then I installed SP2 per the request of the windows update monitor. The install proceeded fine until a copy error occurred.Copy Erro Error occurred while copying file sprb0414.dll.Cannot copy file to directory.

Symptom: Lsass.exe is using about 60%, and svchost.exe is using about 40% (they move around up and down but are always using 100% together). Recently the computer semi died (after the login screen it would blue screen). I repaired to OS (the reinstall option for windows that leaves data and programs intact). Have chkdsk the HD (found and repaired errors), ran a defrag, ran diagnostics on the HD and RAM (all clean), and the computer still moves at a crawl. I've found a lot of articles about LSass.exe causing problems with win 2k domain controllers, but this is not win 2k, is not a domain controller, and is in fact not even on a domain. View 11 Replies View RelatedHaving a major problem with svchost.exe. Everytime I restart the computer an instance of svchost.exe uses a new PID and takes up 95-100% of cpu. I have to find the instance and then "end the process" to use the computer. I have scanned with PCtools antivirus, PCtools spyware, AVG antivirus, Pctools maestro, registry booster 2. All spyware and malware have been removed according to those programs. Registry has been cleaned, defragged and compressed. Still have the same problem.
SVCHOST.EXE / SYSTEM is duplicated in running processes , and it's using all my CPU usage on startup/logon (this process takes several minutes).Never mind the same process for 'local service', and 'network service'. They don't consume CPU usage - see attached.This started when I upgraded to Defender, from MS Antispyware. To upgrade, I had to authenticate the OS , install SP 2 , then install the new app . Took over an hour I noticed too many new things changing in the appearance (and don't like Defender), so I did a sys restore for the day before the install. No problems at all, 'til the next day. Slow boot, slow authentication for logon, etc.

When I bring up utilities for system restore, it shows drive I as the system drive instead of drive C.I can sort of understand why this might happen because I installed a new 200 gig drive 5 months ago and made my old C drive I. My system tells me that C is my boot drive and I am not having any real problems except with restore. Looks like something is wrong in restor's database.

Sometimes when I cut/copy folders from one location to another the process will stop and give an error message cannot move file with a red x. Clicking on ok cancells the whole cut/copy operation, which can leave you wondering what has or has not been moved and requires trawling through source and target location. Gets a bit annoying when it happens fairly often.

While looking at the system information details I noticed five processes under the name "svchost.exe" with the label "not available for all the information tabs (Path, Min working set, max working set, version, size) The same problem with a process called wmiprvse.exe. Please can you tell what is that and if this is a virus, worm or malware or is only a system process?
I have other for processes "svchost.exe" with the path determined "C:windowssystem 32svchost.exe. Is there any difference? I scaned my computer several time just yesterday.

I bought a blank dvd from Walgreens and tried to burn a dvd data disc. An error message came up which said the disc was the wrong media. Then it goes on like that, and the technical information: STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001902FE 0xF7CDE6DC 0xF7CDE3D8 0xF731BF81) It started happening after I ran the new AVG Free 8.0 virus scanner. So maybe that's the problem? So far I haven't been able to even run in safe mode to disable it.

Well we changed the account name to that dept from the other. The problem is when we boot up the PC it still has the old dept.'s name on it, when we login, it labled as the new dept. we searched windows files as well as Registry and cant find the old dept.'s name anywhere. where is this name being pooled from?

I have tried numerous fixes and it will not work. I tried turning off AU and manually installing the updates but it just hangs up. It is only the Office 2003 updates that did not update.
The other day I tried to open yahoo messenger but it wouldn't open. So I restarted my comuter. As it was shutting off, a box popped up real fast right before it shut off. There was no way I coulda read what it said, it shut off too fast........When my computer came back on, a box popped up that said 'this computer does not have an internet connection' or something and had options to install it. So I ignored it and tested my internet connection and it still worked.Next, I realized that my sygate firewall and norton antivirus weren't in the system tray Then I got a box pop up that said my HP office jet printer encountered a problem and had to be shut down or something. My printer wasn't even on.
